The laugh inside his skull still echoed.
"Fool."
Jason's vision fractured like cracked glass. The arena blurred into smears of red and black. His limbs felt heavy, distant, like they belonged to someone else. Blaze's dark magic slithered through his mind, cold and invasive, prying open doors that should never open.
His thoughts started dissolving.
Then something else stirred.
Not drowning.
Not sinking.
Smiling.
A throne room of bones and curses unfolded in the back of his consciousness, and something sat there with its chin resting on one hand, bored.
Four eyes opened.
"Pathetic," the voice muttered.
Jason clenched his teeth. "Don't you dare…"
"Let me take over for now."
The words weren't loud.
They didn't need to be.
They were absolute.
Jason's heart thumped once.
Then again.
Then his cursed energy exploded outward like a volcanic eruption.
Black markings crawled across his skin, tattoos spreading like living ink. His face split into four eyes. Two extra arms unfurled from his sides with a wet, unnatural grace. A second mouth tore open along his stomach, stretching into a grin that didn't belong to anything human.
The pressure changed.
The entire arena went silent.
Even demons stopped screaming.
Because something worse than them had just stepped onto the field.
Sukuna rolled his shoulders, bones cracking pleasantly.
"Ah… the freedom is back," he sighed, voice layered and wrong, like multiple throats speaking at once. "And this time… the kid has more cursed energy. I can stay for a while."
Blaze stared.
For the first time since the match began, fear touched her face.
"You… you too had a hidden card?" she muttered, forcing her flames higher. "It won't matter. You will not stand in the way of my vengeance."
Sukuna looked at her like someone examining a bug.
Then he smiled.
"You are just a glorified cursed spirit."
Her dark magic lashed out instantly, waves of black energy trying to drown him again.
He didn't dodge.
Didn't move.
He just lifted one hand.
"Domain Expansion."
The air split.
"Malevolent Shrine."
There was no barrier.
No dome.
No cage.
Instead, reality itself bent around him.
An invisible shrine manifested like a ghostly temple superimposed onto the world. The ground cracked with ancient markings. Space inside the area became his territory, his slaughterhouse.
A domain without walls.
No escape.
Everything within range simply belonged to him.
The dark magic entered the field and was shredded instantly.
Invisible slashes carved it apart before it could even touch him.
Sukuna stepped forward.
"Cleave."
The space between him and Blaze fractured.
She felt it too late.
A cross of invisible cuts slammed into her torso.
Blood burst outward.
Her chest split open with deep, brutal gashes, flesh carved like paper. Not enough to kill. Just enough to break.
She crashed onto her back, gasping, the arena floor cracking beneath her.
Sukuna walked slowly toward her, each step deliberate, almost lazy.
He placed his foot on her chest, pinning her down between her breasts, looking down at her like a bored king.
"Is that all?" he said softly. "This is what the demons of this world amount to? Lucifer said this place would be entertaining."
His grin widened.
"So far… it's just disappointing."
"I WILL KILL YOU!" Blaze screamed.
The crowd roared with her.
Insults. Curses. Howls.
Sukuna didn't even glance at them.
Her body ignited completely. Not patches of fire. Her entire form became a living inferno, crimson flames roaring upward as her wings spread wide.
She shot into the sky like a comet.
Sukuna raised two fingers casually.
"Dimensional Cleave."
Space itself began to split.
The same slash that once cut through the untouchable. The kind of attack that didn't care about durability, magic, or defenses.
It simply erased whatever it crossed.
Blaze wouldn't survive it.
Not even ash.
The slash formed.
And then…
"NO!"
Jason's voice tore through the mindscape.
For a fraction of a second, control slipped.
Just enough.
The trajectory shifted.
Instead of severing existence itself, the slash twisted, redirected.
It struck Blaze mid-flight.
But not to kill.
To cut something deeper.
Her demonic existence.
The concept of her power.
The flame.
The inheritance.
Everything that made her a demon.
The slash passed through her like a quiet whisper.
Her fire went out.
Instantly.
No explosion.
No scream.
Just silence.
Her wings crumbled into sparks.
Her aura vanished.
Blaze dropped from the sky like a falling star with no light left.
Jason's original form returned mid-run as he rushed forward, catching her before she hit the ground. He lowered her gently onto the stone, her body warm but powerless, breathing faint.
Inside his mind, Sukuna chuckled.
"Oh? You've gone soft now?"
"Shut up."
"She tried to control your mind. Lucky for you, two minds were there."
"You bastard. I don't kill everyone who crosses me. She wasn't evil. She was born half demon. Like Raven."
Sukuna laughed, loud and sharp.
"And you want to rule curses and hell with that heart? Choosing who deserves death? How cute."
"Don't lump me with you. I don't kill for sport."
"Everyone dies," Sukuna said lazily. "You just pretend you're different."
Jason clenched his fists.
"She gave me a chance to walk away. Someone like that isn't evil."
A pause.
Then Sukuna's voice turned colder.
"This is the second time I stepped in."
Silence pressed down.
"Next time… I'm not giving the body back so easily."
The connection snapped.
Gone.
Jason exhaled shakily.
"Damn it… fuck you…"
Light gathered in the arena.
Ramiel and Duma appeared again, descending like executioners made of starlight.
Ramiel's twisted head faced him.
"Winner… Jason Anderson."
The world blinked.
Teleportation swallowed him whole.
One moment he was kneeling beside Blaze.
The next, he stood back inside the booth behind the glass, heart still racing, hands still warm from catching her. Across the arena, Blaze's unconscious body was transported away as well.
The crowd roared.
But Jason didn't hear them.
All he could hear was that last promise echoing in the dark corners of his mind.
Next time.
