The door closes right behind me with the guard departing and the silence Damien had commanded still lingers in the room.

My thoughts lingered on so many reactions and blame that have been pinned on me.

But then, I didn't look at Damien again because I trusted I was on the winning side.

Hera? I still can't believe she'd do such a thing, and I am more tense than ever.

When the door opened, the guards appeared with no one.

"Where's she?" Damien commanded as he rose from where he had sat earlier.

I can tell he was now reeled with the turn of events.

"We couldn't find her," the first reports gave him a bow, and he gnashed his teeth, vibrating where he stood.

"We searched everywhere... she's gone," the second added, like he was uncertain of his words.

I only inhaled, wanting to know what the magistrate would say next, as this case had to die down, somehow, since the culprit was found.
