Noah's expression froze for a brief second, disbelief washing over him as his eyes widened. His lips parted, agape with shock at the sudden appearance of the unfamiliar—yet strangely familiar—form before him.
"This... this is a system?" he muttered, his voice barely audible. Recognition dawned upon him instantly.
His fists clenched as his stunned expression shifted. A wide grin broke across his face. Finally. The word echoed in his mind, and though he almost wanted to shout it aloud, he managed to restrain himself.
The grin that had formed on his face slowly softened into a small, warm smile. "A cheat," Noah whispered, his worldview shattered once again. Reincarnation was one thing—far-fetched, yes, but still within the bounds of explanation.
But a system? That was straight out of fiction. He had only ever read about such things in the countless fanfictions of his past life—mere fantasies meant to kill time.
Yet now, something of similar nature—whatever its functions might be—had manifested before him. It was nothing short of revolutionary.
When he was first reincarnated, he had dared to hope—no matter how unrealistic—that he'd crossed over with something, anything at all, maybe even a system. But as the years passed without event, that hope had faded. He'd begun trying to survive on his own, without expecting miracles.
And now, out of nowhere, everything he believed had been upended once more. But then again, considering he had been reincarnated into a purely fictional world, perhaps it wasn't too far-fetched. He didn't spare it much thought. He quickly shifted his attention to the floating interface before him.
Sigh... Noah made sure to blink a few times, ensuring he wasn't hallucinating. Having confirmed its authenticity, his gaze finally shifted towards the interface floating a few feet before him.
With just a brief glance, he already skimmed through the basic entries like name, gender, and the like. Such entries were unimportant. What he wanted to know were the functions this system brought with it, and how much it could increase his chances of surviving the incoming trials of the world.
He took a few more glances over the interface before his eyes finally settled onto the prompts after the initial introductions. "Abilities? Telekinesis? Lv.1." Noah froze for a second, another wave of surprise and anticipation washing over him.
But he was still unaware of the system's function. He decided to continue exploring. Firstly, he decided to try something. "System, what are your functions?" he inquired, only to be met by cold, echoing silence—no response at all.
He gave it a few more tries, asking several questions, until finally he reached a conclusion: the system wasn't sentient. And oddly, he preferred it to the usual systems portrayed in several stories he'd read.
Noah began scrolling through the interface, soon reaching a section that read: System Functions. Exactly what he was searching for. He glanced briefly over the list, his brows furrowing in a mix of expectation and confusion.
"Ability Synthesis, Ability Upgrade, Auto-Train, and Mission." Still unaware of the exact function of the system, he decided to click the "See Description" tag by the functions. Text expanded rapidly.
——————————
— Ability Synthesis-Fusion:
Combines two or more abilities into a new, advanced power—either as a refined evolution (Synthesis) or a novel hybrid (Fusion). The system intelligently adapts based on the compatibility of selected powers.
——————————
— Ability Upgrade:
Spend Ability Points (AP) to upgrade a power's level from 1 to 10, improving all aspects (range, duration, intensity, control).
——————————
— Auto-Train (0/1 Active Slot):
Designate one power at a time to passively improve over time, even without active use.
——————————
— Mission:
Generates quests that reward XP, Ability Points, Abilities, etc., upon completion.

Noah paused briefly, eyes scanning the descriptions before him. He nodded in understanding before shifting his gaze towards the 'System Data' display. Daily ability refresh and ability points...
A few minutes passed, time which Noah used to gather his thoughts. After a brief moment of silent contemplation, he finally grasped the function of the system in its entirety.
To put it simply, the system had one major function and several supportive ones. The main function of the system was to grant him new, random abilities every 24 hours. Essentially, he'd gain a new ability every day.
However, it came with some underlying restrictions. That restriction was level. All abilities start from level 1 irrespective of potential or rarity, according to what he'd learned from the extensive descriptions.
There were ten levels in total, to be exact, and each level brought with it its own varying level of power—from one to two, two to three, and so on.
After more digging, he'd discovered two ways abilities could be upgraded. The main one: level it up through effort, practicing, and gradually raising the XP bar until full. The other method was through another one of the system's functions—Ability Upgrade.
This function worked under one principle: ability points. Ability points fueled the Upgrade function, and they could only be gained or earned in a few ways. First was by sacrificing an ability, and the second by completing missions.
Using ability points, the Upgrade function could then be used to enhance specific abilities. The higher the level, the more points needed. Simple and straightforward.
Then there was the Ability Synthesis-Fusion function. Basically, it allowed the fusion of one ability with another compatible one, resulting in advancement or potentially opening up new paths. This function, in particular, intrigued Noah. Even without in-depth knowledge of what it was truly capable of, he had a feeling he would be relying on this function extensively in the future.
Finally, he turned to the last two functions, unable to hide his intrigue. "Auto-Train... I like how that sounds," he thought, a small smile forming on his face.
"And Missions," he thought, attention shifting once again—this time to the last function displayed on the system: Mission.
This function was straightforward. Missions are issued for the promise of rewards: abilities, ability points, or XP.
After breaking down the system's ecosystem, Noah nodded to himself. This system, in its entirety, had everything it took to rapidly increase his survivability in this treacherous world—especially with the incoming dangers looming just a few months away.
Having sorted out the system's functions, Noah shifted his attention to the section that interested him the most, the ability section. The list included just two entries: Telekinesis and Genius Intellect.
One of the abilities was new, the other not so much. He didn't waste time and quickly clicked on the see more option.

Noah nodded internally, ignoring the telekinesis ability and focusing on the trait he had always had—his intellect. It was quantified at level 6. "Maybe if the level was higher I could have finished the serum faster," he thought, rubbing his chin subconsciously.
"My intellect has always been my biggest advantage. Now, with this system..." he trailed off, the thought of upgrading his intellect to new and greater levels temporarily crossing his mind. In the corner of his lips, a grin formed."Let's see what you can really do....telekinesis..."
It was past midnight. Any sign of movement downstairs had long ceased, leaving the house eerily quiet. Meanwhile, Noah, in his room, stood in a corner, his hands outstretched. A few meters from where he stood, several objects levitated a few feet above the ground, seemingly held afloat by an unseen hand.
Telekinesis—the ability to move mass with the power of the mind, with no physical force. "It felt strange," Noah thought, trying to adjust to the unfamiliar mental sensations he was currently feeling.
Noah, with his understanding, recognized telekinesis as a psychic ability allowing an individual to influence a physical system without physical interaction. To put it short, it was an ability that had a lot of potential.
He almost imagined himself reaching the level of some individuals he remembered in fiction, and if given enough time to grow, perhaps even reaching the highest form of telekinetic ability—psychokinesis.
The small levitating objects trembled slightly in the air before collapsing gently to the ground with a dull thud. Noah exhaled, lowering his outstretched arms as a faint sheen of sweat formed on his brow.
It was clear, the usage of telekinesis required mental stamina. He had just been practicing for a few minutes yet he could already feel mental strain. "The level's likely too low," he thought, but still smiled nonetheless, a deep smile, a truly rare one. If anyone saw him in this state, they'd probably lose their mind.
Perhaps it was because of the prospect of having superpowers delivered on a silver platter, or the fact that he now had the means to escape the fate of a cannon fodder in the upcoming conflict—probably both. But whatever it was, he was excited.
He stepped back from the scattered objects and sat down on the edge of his bed, staring once again at the glowing interface still lingering in the air before him. "Now I stand a solid chance."
