Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 Unexpected Discovery

Chen Xuewen crawled back along the dark sewer for about two miles until he reached a fork in the sewer. This fork led to a nearby village. However, Chen Xuewen didn't dare to leave the sewer directly. Instead, he found a place where he could stand and hid there temporarily. From time to time, the sounds of wheels and footsteps could be heard outside, indicating that the prison was conducting a thorough search in the area. Time passed slowly, and the sewer was filled with a foul smell. Chen Xuewen's clothes had been soaked during the previous fight. The sub-zero temperature and the wet clothes sticking to his body were a torturous experience. Chen Xuewen gritted his teeth and endured it all without making a sound. He knew this was his only chance. If he could survive, he could avenge his parents. If he was caught and taken back, he would surely die this time, and his parents would have died in vain. So, Chen Xuewen secretly vowed in his heart that he would hold on no matter what, even if it meant starving or freezing to death. After a full day, the sounds gradually faded away. It seemed that the prison had thoroughly searched the area and concluded that Chen Xuewen had already escaped, thus giving up the search in this area. Even so, Chen Xuewen still hid in the foul-smelling sewer for several more hours. It wasn't until the early hours of the morning that Chen Xuewen climbed out of the sewer. He was now near an old village. Chen Xuewen looked around and found a nearby stream. He jumped into the stream where the surface was already covered with a thin layer of ice, enduring the icy water to wash his body. Then, he climbed out and opened the bag Du Lao had given him. Inside was a set of clothes. Chen Xuewen had noticed these clothes earlier but didn't dare to change because he was hiding in the sewer and the clothes would get dirty. If he came out smelling bad, he might not be able to escape. But now that he had taken a bath, he could change into these clothes without worrying about the smell. Wearing the warm clothes, Chen Xuewen let out a long sigh of relief, feeling like he had come back from the dead. Chen Xuewen found a secluded place and buried the prison uniform. After doing all this, he quietly headed towards Pingcheng. He didn't know if there were guards on the road, so he didn't dare to take the main road but kept moving through the mountains and forests. It took him two hours, and just before dawn, Chen Xuewen reached Pingcheng. Looking at the familiar city, Chen Xuewen couldn't help but feel a pang of pain. This was where he grew up, but now there was no longer a home for him here! Chen Xuewen didn't dare to take the main road but slipped into Pingcheng through a small path from a nearby village. After entering the city, it was already dawn and people were starting to walk on the streets. Chen Xuewen put on a hat that covered half of his face and walked on the street. Seeing that no one paid attention to him, he finally let out a sigh of relief. There was some money in Du Lao's bag. Chen Xuewen took the money and found a breakfast stand, buying four steamed buns and a bowl of porridge. He hadn't eaten for over 30 hours and was almost starving. Looking at the buns, he wanted to swallow them all in one go. But he ultimately didn't dare to do so because it would be too conspicuous and draw attention. Chen Xuewen ate his breakfast like an ordinary person. Suddenly, several people in police uniforms walked towards him. Chen Xuewen's breath caught, and he instinctively wanted to run away. But in the end, he held back. If he did so, even if he could escape from these people, it would draw attention and the whole city would probably be sealed off for a search. So, Chen Xuewen could only take a gamble, hoping that these people hadn't discovered him. And it turned out that Chen Xuewen was right. These law enforcement officers sat down at the table next to him and asked the boss to serve them breakfast. The boss and these officers seemed to know each other well. He smiled and said, "Old Ge, why so early?"

"Still searching," replied the leading officer, waving his hand. "We haven't found the prisoner who escaped from the prison. All the law enforcement teams in the city won't have a moment's rest."

"We've been up for a day and a night," said one of the officers.

The boss served them breakfast and asked in surprise, "One escaped? I thought it was two."

Old Ge said, "The younger one was found, but he's dead."

"The older one is a habitual offender. We have no idea where he's hiding now."

Chen Xuewen's heart stirred. At that time, he had dressed Du Lao in prison clothes and burned Du Lao's body almost completely with sulfuric acid. It seemed that the law enforcement team believed that the dead one was him, so now they were all focusing on Du Lao. This relieved Chen Xuewen's pressure a lot.

This situation might not be concealed for long, but for the time being, it could save him a lot of trouble.

The boss was shocked and said, "Oh, that young man is dead? What a pity!"

At this moment, a customer at the next table said, "What's to be pitied? That guy was a rapist and murderer. In my opinion, he should have been sentenced to death right away!"

"He died now? He's lucky!"

The boss immediately turned his head and said, "Hey, brother, you can't say that. My child was in the same school as that young man."

"I heard that the young man was an honest kid. He wouldn't do such a thing."

The customer spat and said, "You can't judge a book by its cover!"

"There's evidence and witnesses. If it wasn't him, then who did it?"

The boss sighed and said, "Well, who knows?"

"But his parents are really pitiful. They were running around for his case and got into a car accident and lost their lives."

"A good family just died out like that. How sad!"

The customer beside him sneered and said, "Sad my ass!"

"You don't know, do you?"

"I'll tell you, his parents deserved to die!"

Chen Xuewen couldn't help clenching his fists. His heart was filled with hatred. The customer's words were like a knife stabbing his heart.

The boss frowned and said, "Hey, buddy, why are you talking like that? His parents are dead. Can't you be a little more considerate?"

The customer cursed and said, "Damn it, do you know what that young man's parents did?"

"I'll tell you, they stole the autopsy report of the girl he killed!"

"Look, now they got what they deserved!"

The boss's eyes widened in surprise, "What? No way!"

"Who told you that?"

The customer spat and said, "Damn it, that girl he killed was my relative. How could I not know?"

"Those bastards, they died cheap!"

Chen Xuewen couldn't bear to listen any longer. At this moment, there was only one thought in his mind: his parents had stolen the autopsy report of the school beauty!

Du Lao had analyzed before that his parents must have obtained some evidence, which is why they were killed. Now, he finally understood what evidence his parents had obtained!

It seemed that there was something wrong with this autopsy report!
