Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Feathers of Rage and Desire

The goddess stood up from her chair, frustrated. She walked around the now-empty temple, replaying the meeting in her head.

She paced back and forth, her mind exploding with ideas to solve the problem that needed her attention the most.

Bjorn was starting to disobey, and the goddess was losing her grip on him. She knew this better than anyone.

Why, why, why, WHY!? Why disobey now when I'm so close to wiping out those disgusting vermin? Why!?

She started pacing faster, her thoughts becoming more foggy as though she were too stressed and angry to think straight.

She began glowing, feathers growing and falling off her arms at blinding speeds. In a matter of seconds, the entire floor of the room was covered in pure white feathers.

She glanced at a list on the wall labeled Ten Mortals with the Potential to Beat a God. Nervously, she scanned the list from bottom to top.

She reached the top of the list and read aloud the number one: "Bjorn."

Her face contorted, feathers sprouting from her sides as her eyes turned black, her pupils glowing bright gold.

She grabbed a nearby statue and hurled it at the list. Just as it was about to hit, thunder rang out as a hand caught the statue before it struck the wall.

"My love, what's gotten your feathers riled up?" asked the man in a seductive voice.

The goddess quickly detransformed and dusted herself off.

"I don't know what you're talking about," she said, fixing her posture.

The man chuckled as he walked up to her and placed the statue back in its place while pinning her to the wall.

The goddess blushed and quickly looked down, avoiding eye contact.

"Lightning God… what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be watching over your people?" she finally managed to blurt out.

The Lightning God smiled as he grabbed her chin and lifted her face. Their eyes met and locked onto each other.

The goddess couldn't hide her flustered face; her cheeks were strawberry red. The Lightning God leaned closer and kissed her.

"Don't worry about the demon situation right now. Let your angels handle it for now, sweetheart," he said, trying to comfort her.

The goddess smiled as she grabbed his hand, but then frowned and let go.

"You're still thinking about him?" the Lightning God asked.

The goddess nodded in agreement, fiddling with her hands.

"I do feel terrible about how things turned out. I don't think it was necessary for us to…" she stopped mid-sentence.

Her face was filled with rage, guilt, and regret. The Lightning God hugged her tightly.

They stayed like that for hours until the goddess fell asleep in his arms.

Don't worry, darling. Once the demon race has been wiped out, he'll be nothing but a distant memory.

The Lightning God kissed the goddess on her forehead before falling asleep himself.
