Adam had never been so scared in his entire life. Not during corporate wars, not during the sleepless nights building his empire, not even during the ambushes he'd survived overseas. Nothing compared to the moment Sofia's head rolled limply against his shoulder, her eyes fluttering shut, her breath shuddering out of her like a candle snuffed.
He felt the world tilt. For one panicked heartbeat he almost lost himself completely — until Raymond's hand clamped hard on his shoulder, anchoring him. "Focus," Raymond barked. "We're getting her out. Now."
Sirens. Boots pounding. Paramedics rushing in with kits. The cliffside blurred into chaos. Adam's gaze locked on the helicopter touching down in a storm of rotor wash, its blades cutting the dawn air to ribbons.
A medic reached for Sofia. Adam's arms tightened around her instinctively. "I'm coming with her," he snapped, his voice like steel.
