Chapter 213 - Nothing About You Is Broken

Tristan's doorbell rang just past midnight, sharp against the hush of his apartment. He frowned, padding across the living room barefoot, a half-empty legal brief still on his desk. When he opened the door, the sight of Adam stopped him cold.

"Adam, what the hell are you doing here?" Tristan asked, blinking at the man on his doorstep. His best friend — always immaculate — now looked like a ghost of himself: shirt rumpled, tie gone, eyes shadowed with sleeplessness. "Is everything okay?"

Adam didn't answer immediately. He just stood there, fists jammed into the pockets of his jacket like he didn't know what else to do with them.

"It's late," Tristan added, softer this time, stepping aside. "Come in."

Adam walked in without a word, moving as though gravity had doubled. He stopped in the middle of Tristan's living room, shoulders squared but sagging at the edges.

"I want to drink tonight," Adam said finally, his voice rough.
