I kept turning in bed, and I couldn't sleep. I tried drinking warm milk, counting, I even tried watching and listening to ASMR's, but nothing was working. I kept remembering everything that happened at the bar table, and the part that kept playing back was when the girl left me there without saying anything. I even remembered that she didn't even tell me her name. I was so miserable that I even called Mike. I didn't expect him to pick up the call, but he did.
"Babe, did you see the time. What's wrong?" he said.
I was surprised that he still cares even when I woke him up. "Babe, I miss you. I just called to hear your voice after two days of not connecting." I said.
"Babe, are you drunk?" I didn't say anything just for two whole minutes.
"Yes my colleagues wanted to welcome me properly." I knew that was not the best answer, but I didn't want to lie.
"So you call that a proper welcome. Why can't they take you for a meal or something? They choose alcohol. Where were you celebrating?" He was actually shouting in anger.
"In a club." I regretted calling him.
"In a club!" He was angry now. "Do they even know that you're married. You're not allowed to go clubbing without your husband! If that's how your colleagues are, I think it's better you come back. You will find another job far from them, I need you home now!" Well, that did not sound good.
"Babe, but I only drank four shots, that's all. I can't just resign before even earning my first salary. If you're like this, I'm going to hung up. We will talk tomorrow, goodnight!" I realized that it was better to keep on thinking of that situation in the club other than being angry.
I woke up. I didn't even know when I slept, but what I knew was, I had a massive hangover. I ended throwing up. I bathed and went straight to the kitchen and made food, and I ate it while holding a hot sauce in my hand. Just when I was done eating, I decided to take a nap on the couch, and I had the flashbacks of yesterday's problem. At that point, I needed anything that could help me forget that lady, I was ready to talk, so I called Tamara and Amara, and they came in a blink of an eye. I told everything, even my fight with Mike.
"We have to find the lady dude." Tamara said that standing up the couch. Amara and I asked her how and why.
"You know meeting a person in the bar or club is also a sign of a soulmate, and it is hard to forget her, especially in your situation." She said.
"How could she be my soul mate when I already have a soul mate and I'm married to him?" I asked.
Tamara giggled and said, "Just because you're married, it doesn't mean you won't find another love. Maybe your marriage isn't meant to be forever. Who knows?"
Amara looked at her and said, "I say she should forget that lady and focus on her own marriage life and fix the current problem she has with her husband."
"I Tamara Longman don't agree with Amara. So what if she f…" She got interrupted but the door. We all wanted to see who actually was it that came in my apartment without knocking, and we were shocked to see Mike.
"Babe, why didn't you tell me you were coming?" I asked in shock.
He didn't even have his bags with him, "Moon pack your bags we are leaving!"
We all stared at him, "We are leaving?"
"Yes, Moon, we are leaving. I don't want to let you stay here and let people ruin you for me!" He was shouting in anger.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked.
"Well, it has not even been a month, and you have started going to clubs with people you've just met 2 days ago!" He was now mad.
"Mike I told you I can't just leave before a month. No. I'm not leaving!" Tamara and Amara hand signed me that they are leaving. "Mike, I'm begging you, don't make me go. I love it here. I finally have friends who are not far from where I'm living. Please, babe."
After two whole years of living with Mike, it was my first time begging him. I even went down on my knees with my wet cheeks. I couldn't imagine leaving without seeing that lady again.
"It looks like you really love your job. You're even down on your knees begging, and you're even crying, something that I've never seen you do for many years of knowing each other. You didn't even cry on our wedding day."
"Yes, babe, I love my job, and everyone is friendly there. Please, I promise not to go clubbing without you nor with them." I was even sobbing, and he was right. I've never cried in front of him.
Mike seemed to calm down after what I've said. "OK. I will let you stay, but if I ever hear that you went clubbing, you will be leaving this place without discussion." He left as soon as he said those words.
I rushed to give him a hug at the back and said, "Thank you, babe!" He didn't even respond he left my place. Well, his silence didn't bother me because I got what I wanted. "So is she really worth it?" I asked myself while blushing.
I ordered a meal for dinner and I ate, "That's why I need company in this house. Dinner is boring when I'm alone." I then went to sleep.
In the morning, I got ready for work, but I kept making romantic scenes as if the lady was here with me. I was ready for work, and I was even ready to take Tamara 's advice, "Maybe I have 2 soulmates." I giggle and went to work. As soon as I walked in, Amara and Tamara approached to me, and they both gave me hugs.
"Heyyyy! What's going on?" I was surprised.
"We thought you were not going to come today. We heard how serious Lethabo was on taking you with him." I looked at them and smiled.
"Well, I managed to make him change his mind, but to do that, it means I will no longer go clubbing." They laughed at me, and we headed in the hospital.
That day, it was busy. We even had to help with Zoo animals. Just when I was about to knock off, I had one last patient who wanted her dog to be checked for flees. Tell you what, she was the patient I needed all day. When she entered, I realized that it was the lady from the club. I was so happy to see her. I even took off my gloves just to shake her hand, and I'm not allowed to do that. "Do I know you from somewhere?"
Her words hurt me, but I later realized that I was wearing a face mask, so I removed it and said, "I'm that wasted one."
She was so shocked to see me, and she was also embarrassed at the same time. "Sorry about that other day. I was actually embarrassed that I thought you're a lesbian."
I looked at her and said, " Can we go out for dinner today? Well, if you're not busy?"
"Are you not mad at me?" She asked in shock. I shook my head and treated her dog.
"She's clean." I let go of her dog. She was about to head out. I shouted, "So are we going out or what?" She came back and asked for my phone, and put in her number. I looked at her, and I blushed.
"Call me when you get home." She said that walking out of my ward. I quickly saved her number, and I realized I didn't get her name again. I save her number as Lady.
I called Amara and Tamara to my ward, and I told them everything. "Well, what are you still doing here? Go and cook dinner." Tamara said that while taking off my coat. I took my car keys and went straight to my car. I arrived home. I didn't even want to bathe first. I just took off my uniform in the kitchen and cooked half naked. I was only able to cook rice so I ordered some snacks, desserts and of course meat.
I called the lady, and she picked up. "How soon can you get here?" I asked her. I even forgot I was not ready.
"In an hour." Her response made me happy.
"OK, I will pick you up. Please send me your location." I quickly hanged up, and I got a text of her location. I went to the bath and I was so confused about what I should wear. So I decided to go simple because it was late already so I wore my tracksuit with my Nike kicks. I got my rings on, and I took off my engagement ring.
I called her just to check if she was done, and she told me she was ready. I drove there to pick her up, and she was already waiting for me at the gate. She dressed like a model. I was so embarrassed that I went for simple and she went all out. "You could have given me the dress code cause now I feel so bad." She said that while I approached to her.
"No. You look fine, but if you feel bad, you can still change." I said.
"Wait here I'm going to change, but if you like, you can get in cause it's 10 pm, it's not safe outside." We went in, and her house was so calm, and it was so nice.
"Where is your dog?" I asked her. She shouted, "It is with its sitter just for tonight!"
She came down the stairs, and she was now wearing a tracksuit with the same kicks I was wearing. "So what you meant by dress code is wearing exactly like me?"
She giggled first and said," Yes." I took her hand, and we locked. I gave her the car treatment. We went to my apartment. So in my apartment, when you enter, there are slippers there, so you should be wearing them before heading in the house. So I helped her take off her shoes, and I helped her put in slippers.
I looked her in the eyes and said, " Sorry for being romantic, I just can't help it when I'm with you." She blushed there while I took off my shoes to wear slippers.
We went to the dinning room. "You have a beautiful home." I thanked her and opened a chair for her. "So you cooked all this food on your own in just an hour?" she asked.
"Well not all of it. I just made rice and ordered the rest, sorry. I just didn't have enough time." I was actually embarrassed that I invited someone for dinner and I ordered everything instead of cooking.
"No, it's ok. Just by wasting your money ordering shows that you care." I looked at her and blushed. I dished up for her, and we ate.
We were talking about our childhood memories till she asked me, " Where is your engagement ring?"
I cleared my throat first and said," I… took it off."
"Why?" I felt so uncomfortable with her questions.
I drank water first and said," I thought it was the right thing to do as I invited you for dinner." I actually didn't have a reason for taking off my engagement ring. I just felt that I didn't need to wear it in our dinner.
She looked at me and said, "I understand, but won't your husband mind if he walked in and found you not wearing your ring?" Her question irritated me. I ended standing up and took my plate to the kitchen without saying anything. She followed me and asked, "Did I offend you?" I wanted to answer her, but I felt like it wasn't worth it, so
I went to the kitchen drawer and took out my ring. I put it on and looked at her and said," Goodnight."
I went to my room without showing her where she would be sleeping. She went back to the dining room to close all the food we left open, and she took her plate to the kitchen. She then came to my room and she joined me in bed. She whispered," Mind lending me pyjamas? I didn't come prepared because I wasn't told that this would be a sleepover." I switched on my lamp and looked at her.
I woke up and went to my wardrobe and came with white pyjamas. "White is a beautiful colour. Most people say it's for the pure, but I think it's for the cute ones." I said that while handing them to her.
"I did offend you, right?" She turned to me for an answer.
"Yes. To be honest, I feel like I should have kept it on so that we could continue with our dinner."
She giggled, and she took off her clothes. "Don't you think you should be doing that in the bathroom or something?" I asked.
She leaned to me and asked, "Why, are you gay now?" I looked at her and smiled. She took off her clothes and wore the pyjamas I gave her.
"Let me take you to your room." I said.
"So I don't sleep with you?" She asked.
I looked at her and asked," Are you not scared of my husband?"
My words made her stand up and leave the room to go find her room on her own. "I think I made a big mess by saying those words." So I stood up from my bed and went to the fridge to get two buckets of ice cream and two huge ice cream scoops. I looked in the two rooms. I thought she could go in and I didn't find her. I went to the smallest room in the house and I found her. "Why this room?" I asked her while getting in bed with her.
"Why are you here?" She asked.
"I came to apologize." She woke up and went out of that room and left me alone. She went to another room and I followed her. "Please, Lady. I'm sorry."
"I'm not Lady. I'm Jade." She said.
"Oh! Jade, can you please listen?" I pleaded.
She went in the bed, and she looked at me and asked, "Why?" I joined her and gave her ice cream and a scoop.
I switched on the TV on that room and said, "Because we are in my house, and you offended me first."
She poked me in the forehead and said, "You can still take me back to my own house, and I didn't mean to offend you. I just wanted to know."
"Wasn't it obvious that I took my ring off for you? Or did you want me to spell it out for you?" I said that embarrassed.
She did the death stare and said, "Well, now you're being rude for a person who came to apologize. At first, you say you're not a lesbian, but now you're taking off your engagement ring for me and even invite me to dinner. What's your game, Mrs. Smith?"
"There is no game unless you want it. Can you call me Moon?" I said that blushing.
She blushed and said, "I love your name, Moon." She seemed to relax after that. "So what are we watching?"
I looked at her and said, "Anything you want."
"Anything. Anything I want, you say?" She asked.
I looked at her straight in her eyes and said, "Anything."
She started getting close to me just like a person who is trying to seduce. "So…" I waited for her to finish her sentence, but she kept getting closer and closer to me.
"So what? Please talk. It's already late. We have to wake up tomorrow. Don't you have work?" I said that getting away from her.
She got close again and said, "I don't have work tomorrow. So I want to watch…" She paused again and got closer again.
"If you're not going to work like me, it's okay, but we have to fetch the dog from the sitter, so talk. If you're going to pause now, I'm going to sleep." I scooted again.
"Okay, don't be like that, and you don't need to worry about Sunny she will be fine. So I want us to watch a GL series that I saw in my tiktok feed called Blank the series." She said.
I looked at her and said, "A series wow. About the dog, we will be fetching it tomorrow with your clothes to change." I searched for that series on YouTube, and we watched it. It was interesting, but I later realized that on the second episode, Jade was sleepy. "Why don't you sleep? We will watch it again tomorrow." I said that switching off the light.
She came close to me again and said, "Can you sleep with me?"
"Why do you keep getting closer and closer to me? Are you trying to push me off the bed?" I asked.
She looked at me and sobbed, "I'm clingy, ok!"
I looked at her and poked her on the nose. "OK, I will sleep with you." She smiled, and we went to sleep. I woke up early, so I decided to go make breakfast, but I couldn't break loose because 'Miss Clingy' was holding me too tight. I decided to wake her up, I kissed her forehead.
She woke up and said, "Can you do that again?"
I smiled. "Can you let me go, I want to go and make breakfast?"
"How can I let you go when you just woke me up with a forehead kiss? I guess I was right. You're a lesbian." She said squashing me with a hug.
"No. I'm not. I kissed you on your forehead so that I won't wake you up roughly." She let go of me, and I went to make breakfast. "What is going on with me?" I asked myself. Just when I was about to go fetch the juice, I heard my phone ring. I rushed to get it. I went to my bedroom and I didn't get it. It kept ringing until Jade came to give it to me. I looked to see who was calling, and it was Mike. Jade seemed to be bothered by that, but I had to answer the call. "Babe." It was kind of embarrassing to say that in front of Jade, so I went outside.
"When will you come to Cape Town, I already miss you?" To be honest, I didn't want to go back there anymore.
"I don't know. I think I will be there next month for the family reunion, I also…" Just when I was about to finish my sentence, I heard a girl's voice.
"Babe, who are you talking to?"
As soon as I heard that, Mike hung up. "Hmm, I never thought he had it in him." I said that to myself. I went back in the house, and I found Jade in the kitchen drinking water. I suspected that she was listening to my conversation. "Are you that obsessed with me?" As soon as I said that, I went to get my plate.
"Who said I'm obsessed? You're so overconfident." I looked at her cute face and giggled.
"Let's quickly eat so that we can go get Sunny." We ate, and we both went to bathe but in separate bathrooms. I landed her my T-shirt and shorts. I really liked them better on her.
"What are you looking at, Doctor?" I didn't realize that I stared at her that long she even noticed.
"Nothing, let's go." I grabbed my car keys, and I opened the car door for her and closed it. We first went to her place so that she could change.
"I think I will wear your clothes the whole day. I will just take my work clothes and my toiletries." She said.
"What about pyjamas?" I asked.
She looked at me and said, "They said white suits me, and I don't have white pyjamas, so I don't need to take them." She held my hand, and we went out. She locked up and got in the car. We went to get Sunny from her sitter and went back to my place. "Why do you still want me to sleep at your place?" She asked.
I felt like telling her how I feel about her, "It is boring to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner alone. I think your company for the whole day will save me from my loneliness." I have never liked anyone spending or sleeping over at my house, but for her, it was different.
We arrived at my house, and we made Sunny feel like she's at home. "What should I order for lunch?" Jade stared at me for so long that I started to think there's something on my face. "What, do I have something on my face?" She didn't stop even when I said that.
After a while, she said, "You can order hamburgers and fries." She is weird.
"Why did you do that?" I asked.
"Do what?" She asked.
"Why did you look at me for so long and not say nothing till now?" I asked.
She laughed and said, "OH, I was thinking." I shook my head and took my phone and ordered food.
"What will Sunny eat?" I asked her. She went to her room to get food for Sunny. It didn't take long for our food to arrive. As we were eating, we heard a knock.
I went to get the door, and it was Amara and Tamara. "So what's for today?" Tamara asked while barging in the house, Amara did the same. They were surprised to see Jade there.
"So she's the reason you're not calling us, and you're refusing to go out with us?" They both stared at me for an answer.
"Is she the lady you told us about?" I hand signed them to keep quiet before they tell Jade everything.
"Hi guys, how are you, I'm fine. Yes, she is the reason I couldn't come today. Her name is Jade, and she will be leaving tomorrow." They both jumped to me till we all fell on the floor.
"So she's moving in?" Amara asked with a 'you're bad' face.
"No, she is visiting me. She stayed here last night after dinner, so I thought she could do the same today. Please get off me. I'm dying down here!" I said.
"But today you didn't invite her for dinner. You actually invited her to live with you for the day. Nice!" Tamara said.
I was so embarrassed because they said all that while Jade was watching us. "You know what? About us going out, I take back the thing I said earlier, so let's all go! Jade, I'll be back. If you need anything please call." I didn't even wait for her to respond, I took my bag. "Whose car are we using today?"
They took my hand, and we all went to Tamara's car. "For a learner, you know much." Amara giggled after the words Tamara said.
"What are you talking about? Tamara sometimes, I think I should always bring a duck tape with me just to close your mouth." I said.
"If you don't know what she's talking about, why are you mad?" Amara asked. I looked at them and sighed.
We got to Tamara's place. "What are we doing at your place, I thought we're going to have lunch?" I asked.
"Yes we're going to have lunch but at my place." I looked at them and shook my head. I kept looking at my phone so that when Jade calls, I could quickly answer.
"Do you love her that much?" Amara asked.
"Huh?" I started to scratch my head.
"You will hurt yourself. Just answer the question, do… you…love…her…that…much?" Tamara repeated the sentence.
I blushed first, "No, I don't love her, I just like her, that's all."
"OH. You like her. So that means you wouldn't mind if I took her from you?" Amara asked.
"Why would you need her when you have your own fiancée?" I said.
They stared at each other. "Well, I don't have a fiancée. So, does it mean I do have a chance to take her?" Tamara said that teasing.
"No, Tamara. You have a girlfriend who loves you more than your parents!" I was getting irritated that I took my bag and went straight to the door.
"Hey! Where are you going? We haven't even had lunch." Amara shouted.
" Narh. I'm full. I ate lunch with Jade at home, so since I had lunch, I thought, what's the point of staying here so I'm going home." They both laughed so loud. I turned to them with a death stare, and they still continued laughing.
"You are actually irritated because we want to get the girl you love, right?" Amara asked.
"No. I told you the reason, I'm leaving. I have a visitor home." I said.
Tamara blocked my way, and Amara pulled me to the couch. "Sorry for that, but you need to be honest with your heart. You do love Jade, and I think it's best you tell her. At first, I thought Tamara was crazy to tell you to go after her, but now I think she was right."
Well, I wished it was as easy as Amara says, but it's not. "Do you guys even remember that I'm married. I carry someone's last name with me, it's not that easy."
