Early in the morning, Azztheo woke up to the gentle hum of city life outside his window. After a refreshing shower, he changed into his new academy uniform—black jacket, grey pants, and the crest of Aetherfall stitched proudly on the chest.
As he stepped out of his dorm room, he noticed another student locking the door to the room next to his.
"Hey! Are you the new student?" the boy asked with a friendly smile. "Name's Jake."
"Yeah, I just arrived yesterday," Azztheo replied. "Nice to meet you, Jake. I'm Azztheo."
"Nice to meet you too!" Jake said, then added curiously, "So, first day, huh? Want me to tell you a bit about how things work around here?"
"Please do," Azztheo nodded. "What do first-year students usually focus on?"
Jake leaned against the wall and explained, "Well, most first-years have already awakened. The focus is mainly on practicing and mastering their abilities. There are group sessions, solo training, and basic strategy classes. Once a student shows enough control and progress, they're evaluated by the instructors. If they pass, they're promoted to second year."
Azztheo blinked in surprise. "So, are you awakened too?"
Jake scratched the back of his head, a little embarrassed. "Ah… not yet. To be eligible for the gene serum injection, your physique stat needs to be at least 50. I'm at 43 right now. Just need seven more points."
"I see…" Azztheo said thoughtfully, now more curious than ever about his own stats and the process ahead.
The two of them began walking toward the main building together, the academy slowly coming alive with the sounds of students heading to their first classes of the day.
As Azztheo and Jake entered the classroom, they noticed that the teacher hadn't arrived yet. The class was large, with over fifty students—most of them chatting, reading, or simply sitting silently. No one paid Azztheo more than a passing glance. It wasn't the grand entrance he had imagined.
He quietly took a seat beside Jake in the fourth row.
After a few minutes, the classroom door opened, and a woman in her late twenties walked in with confident strides. Her sharp eyes scanned the room and briefly lingered on Azztheo.
She clapped her hands once.
"Alright, settle down."
The chatter died down instantly.
"Good morning, class. I know we've already gone through the basics during orientation," she said, "but since we have a new student today, I'll go over the core concepts one more time. Bear with me even if this is review for most of you."
She tapped on the digital board, and a chart appeared.

---
She pointed to the last two tiers.
"Legend Class individuals are —Superhumans whose names are known across continents. They can wipe out entire regions, stop natural disasters, or defeat armies single-handedly. There are only three alive at our current world according to our knowledge, but their may be more who remains hidden. Most are S-Class veterans who've surpassed their limits referred to as legend class ."
Then she paused, her voice becoming slightly quieter, more reverent.
"Mythic Class… is something else entirely. Their powers defy understanding—of human knowledge. As of now, there are no Mythic-Class humans in the human world. Only ancient beings and high-ranking demons possess such power."
She looked at the students seriously.
"But make it your life goal that is the level we must one day reach—because if we don't, we'll never stand a chance against what's coming from the demon world."
The teacher let the silence hang for a moment before switching the display to a new chart.
"Now let's talk about elemental affinities. When you awaken, you will naturally possess one affinity. It's a core part of who you are, and it greatly influences your fighting style and development as a superhuman."
She clicked again. A list of elements appeared behind her, each glowing with its own subtle hue.
---
Elemental Affinities:
Fire Destruction & Offense Flame manipulation, explosions, heat-based attacks
Water Fluidity & Control Water shaping, mild healing.
Earth Defense & Strength Ground control, stone armor, tremors
Wind Speed & Agility Air blades, vacuum bursts, and flight at higher level
And some awakens variant elements such
Ice Sub-element (Water + Wind) Freezing attacks, frost armor, slowing enemies
Metal Sub-element (Earth + Strength) Weapon creation, metallic skin, iron control
Nature / Flora Life & Growth Plant control, regeneration, toxins
Lightning Raw Power & Speed Shock attacks, paralysis, overclocked reflexes
Light Purity & Protection Healing, blinding bursts, illusions, holy energy
Darkness Stealth & Corruption Shadow manipulation, fear inducement, mind interference
---
She then turned serious.
"But then…" —she tapped again, and the room dimmed slightly—
"There are rare and forbidden affinities. Power beyond the reach of most."
The last element flashed across the screen in deep violet and black:
---
Rare & Mythic Affinity
Power of space
Space Dimensional Control Teleportation, spatial rifts, gravity distortion, portals
---
"The Space affinity… is no ordinary power. Only Mythic beings and a few individuals with legendary talent have ever awakened it. It allows for bending the very fabric of reality. If you ever meet someone with this gift, you must treat them with caution—or respect. But you dont have to worry too much as foreign Legend Class or Mythic beings are rejected by our world so you wont meet mythic class beings for now"
She looked at the class, eyes sharp.
"You won't get to choose your affinity. It will choose you. Most people awaken one. A few rare individuals awaken two. And those with zero? Well…" She paused. "They remain unawakened forever."
She allowed the class to absorb this.
Then she smiled faintly.
"Alright. That's enough of a refresher. We'll do a mock assessment later this week to see how everyone's progressing. For now—get comfortable with each other. Because whether you like it or not, you're all in the same fight."
The class fell silent, the weight of her words settling over them.
Azztheo clenched his fists under the desk, a quiet determination rising in him. He thought of the shard in his bag… of his father's letter… and of the promise he had made.
He would awaken.
And he would grow strong—strong enough to find his father, and to even face the demons themselves.
