Chapter 67 - Chapter 66: Maybach and Daimler

Gramme's matter was resolved, but the subsequent arrival of Benz and his group was the real trouble.

Among the three founders of Benz, only Benz voluntarily came to Spain.

The remaining Daimler and Maybach were all kidnapped. If they were determined not to work for Spain, then King Carlo would have no choice but to reluctantly lose these talents in the automotive and engine fields.

Another two weeks passed before the talents from Germany successfully arrived in Madrid.

"Your Majesty, the people you wish to see have arrived in the reception room," Butler Laurent stepped forward to remind King Carlo that the people he wanted to see had arrived, while King Carlo was reviewing a report on industrial development.

"Have Carter come to see me as well. We have to give these kidnapped people an explanation, don't we?" King Carlo nodded, then instructed.

"Mr. Carter is already waiting outside," Butler Laurent said with a smile.

Kidnapping people does not mean the end; how to handle these talents is also a problem. If they are willing to join Spain's nationality, it is naturally a win-win situation.

But if they are unwilling, Carter will have to dispose of them cleanly, pretending nothing happened.

King Carlo nodded and walked towards the reception room of the Madrid Royal Palace.

As the third largest palace in Europe, second only to the Palace of Versailles and Schönbrunn Palace, the Madrid Royal Palace can only be described as massive and luxurious.

There are over a dozen reception rooms provided for the monarch and royal family members to meet guests, each with various styles.

Benz and his group were arranged in a small reception room on the westernmost side of the palace, next to King Carlo's carefully constructed large dining hall, which can prepare delicacies from all over Europe.

The purpose of choosing this location to meet Benz and others was also very simple. If the outcome was satisfactory to everyone, King Carlo would invite them to taste Spain's special delicacies, and then discuss matters concerning the automotive industry and engine business.

If the talks didn't yield satisfactory results, Carter would be forced to demonstrate his recent training, drastically reducing the number of people in the world.

In the small reception room nearby, the atmosphere was quite complex.

Karl Benz was in a better mood. He was invited and voluntarily joined the Spanish nationality, so naturally, he had no bad feelings.

But Daimler and Maybach were different. They were forcibly kidnapped by Carter, and the journey from Germany to Madrid was not pleasant, so naturally, they did not look well.

Several precious porcelain pieces and paintings by famous artists were displayed in the reception room. Benz was attentively admiring them under the introduction of a nearby servant, while Daimler and Maybach remained silent, sitting quietly in their seats.

Suddenly, the door to the reception room was pushed open, and King Carlo walked in with a smile.

"Your Majesty!" The servants were the first to bow to King Carlo.

Benz also reacted and bowed to King Carlo with German etiquette.

Everyone's eyes turned to Daimler and Maybach, who had not moved. Even if they had objections, they had no choice but to perform a German bow to King Carlo at this moment.

The monarchy was still quite popular in Europe at that time, and these Germans had grown up immersed in a monarchical environment, so their respect and fear of royal power were heartfelt.

"No need to be so polite, Mr. Benz, Mr. Daimler, Mr. Maybach," King Carlo nodded and said with a smile.

"Speaking of which, this is actually a misunderstanding. My original intention was to invite you to Spain, not through kidnapping," King Carlo continued.

For talents like Daimler and Maybach, King Carlo was quite willing to show his sincerity. Of course, his sincerity was limited.

If the other party was not too sensible, King Carlo could not make too many concessions.

"King Carlo, it is an honor to meet you," Benz said first.

Benz was already willing to come to Spain, not to mention King Carlo, as a king, had a friendly and approachable attitude, which made Benz feel that his decision was correct.

As for Daimler and Maybach being kidnapped, Benz did not know the full story, but he was willing to trust the more benevolent King Carlo.

"King Carlo, I believe this is an accident. When can we return to Germany? I still have research in progress," the youngest, Wilhelm Maybach, was the first to lose his composure, asking somewhat eagerly.

Hearing Maybach's question, King Carlo smiled, seemingly very friendly: "I'm sorry, but I heard that there have been some problems at the Madrid station recently. If you want to return to Germany, you might have to wait a while longer."

When the Madrid station had problems was just a matter of King Carlo's word. If he didn't want Maybach and Daimler to leave, the Madrid train station would continue to have problems.

Daimler remained silent for a long time, finally speaking: "Your Majesty, can we not return to Germany?"

King Carlo smiled, not answering.

The scene instantly fell silent, and then Daimler continued: "Well, it seems we have no choice.

Your Majesty, can you ensure that you will support our research?"

When it came to supporting research, King Carlo was full of confidence: "Of course. I am very happy to support your research, whether in the automotive field, mechanical field, or engine aspect, I will support you without reservation.

If you are willing to join Spain's nationality, I can establish relevant laboratories to help you with your research.

Of course, I will also give you relevant shares, and your income will definitely far exceed that in Germany, so you will no longer have to worry about money."

Hearing the conversation between Daimler and King Carlo, the youngest Maybach finally realized that the current situation was not as optimistic as he had thought.

However, looking at Daimler beside him, and then at King Carlo, who confidently expressed his support for their research, Maybach was not so resistant to staying in Spain.

Maybach was born in Germany, but he became an orphan at a young age and was adopted and raised by a charity organization.

Because he had no family, the most important thing for Maybach was his hobbies, which were research in mechanics and engines.

The person he was closest to at the moment was Daimler, whom he had only met recently. If he could work with Daimler, it actually didn't matter where they were.

The most opposed to staying in Spain was probably the oldest, Daimler. Because Daimler had already started a family in Germany and had a job as a chief consultant at a machinery factory, his income was quite good.

This kidnapping destroyed his original good life, which was also the reason Daimler was unwilling to stay in Spain.
