Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: Was it Real?

Ata walked past a television store window on the way to home. The news was playing.

TV ANCHOR:

Police are investigating a string of gruesome murders. The first case occurred on May 14, 2020. The convict was a police officer—admitted to a mental institute after claiming he saw strange creatures murder his colleague.

Since then, 140 murders have followed. Each convict claimed the same thing.

Historical research reveals that in 14th century BC, a tribe documented creatures called "bha"—meaning "the light."

Breaking: 50 of those 140 convicts have been murdered inside their institutions. Others nearby were also found dead.

Ata's blood ran cold. Sara was telling the truth…

She dialed the doctor's number.

"The number you are trying to reach is not responding..."

She left a message: "Doc—leave now. Turn off all lights and evacuate the building with Sara. Now!"

She rushed home, packed vials of chemical substances, syringes, and a gun loaded with dummy bullets.

Clad in black, she entered the asylum stealthily.

She darted past corridors, shattered overhead lights with gunfire, and plunged syringes into grotesque, half-glowing creatures. They shrieked and collapsed in the darkness.

"I'm coming, brother. Please stay alive," she whispered.

At last, she reached the locked cell—but it was empty.

Where is he?

The phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Ata?" It was Sara's voice. "Oh Shiva—I escaped. I'm home."

"I'm coming."

Do you believe that voice? Someone whispered

If you do—you find him safe. If you don't—he's no longer human.

She entered the apartment cautiously. The silence felt unnatural.

"Sara?" she called.

But it was behind her.

"Run, Ata," the thing said. "It's too late for me. Please… stay safe."

"I'm not leaving you!" she screamed. "Either we both live—or we both die!"

"I'm sorry. From now on… pretend your brother is dead."

Sara hit her head as lightly as possible yet strong enough to make her faint.

When she awoke, she looked around the house but found no one.

She rushed to the asylum. It was on fire.

Everything was in flames.
