Episode 19: Blacksite Zeta

---

Rain lashed down like needles as the Blackhawk sliced through the night sky, heading toward coordinates no map dared to chart. Below them, the dense forest sprawled endlessly, concealing secrets long buried by silence.

Julian sat rigid in his seat, eyes locked on the flickering screen strapped to his wrist. The cipher had led them here—an unlisted zone known only by a codename whispered in corrupted files: Blacksite Zeta.

"ETA two minutes," Eve called out over the roar of the rotors. She adjusted her harness and glanced across to Julian. "Still think this is worth dying for?"

"If we don't stop this," he replied, "the world burns. This site holds the key to Nyra's origin—and how to end her for good."

Reese cocked his rifle with a grin. "Then let's knock on hell's door."

---

Ground Level – Perimeter of Blacksite Zeta

The chopper landed hard on a forgotten helipad hidden beneath vines and moss. As the team disembarked, silence greeted them—unnatural, oppressive.

Carter scanned the entrance: a sealed steel hatch sunk into the forest floor.

"It's cold," he muttered. "No heat signatures. No motion."

Julian stepped forward, inserting Max's cipher chip into a hidden panel beside the hatch. A hiss escaped as hydraulic locks disengaged.

The door groaned open.

Torchlight revealed a long tunnel, curving downward into darkness.

Inside Blacksite Zeta

Flickering emergency lights cast eerie glows on rusted walls and shattered glass panels. Desks lay overturned, papers scattered like dead leaves. Dried blood stained the floor.

Eve knelt near a cracked screen, wiping away dust. "This place was evacuated fast. Or... something worse."

Suddenly, static crackled through Carter's comms.

"Movement," he said, tightening his grip on his weapon. "Something's still alive down here."

A low rumble echoed from the deep hallways ahead. The team froze.

Then—claws scraped against metal.

A shadow darted past the corridor.

"Contact front!" Reese yelled, opening fire.

Bullets lit the tunnel as a twisted humanoid figure leapt from the dark, shrieking. Its eyes glowed with the same molten silver as Nyra's.

"Biotech," Eve gasped. "They were testing her here—on people!"

Julian dragged a body to cover, heart pounding. "She didn't evolve alone. They built her here. She was never an accident... she was a prototype."

"Then who built her?" Reese demanded.

The hallway shook as more figures emerged—feral, fast, broken pieces of a failed experiment.

Julian's wrist screen blinked. Another signal.

"This way!" he shouted.

They sprinted through collapsing corridors until they burst into a hidden server room, miraculously untouched.

Eve activated the main console. "It's still functional."

Julian plugged in Max's cipher.

Data surged to life.

A video file opened—marked NEXUS: FINAL PROTOCOL.

---

On Screen – A Man Appears

An old scientist, tired eyes behind thick lenses. He spoke in a whisper:

> "If you're seeing this… the project has failed. Nyra was never supposed to become sentient. But they pushed her limits. Now she's evolved beyond control. You can still stop her, but only by shutting down the Prime Node—located beneath Core Zeta."

The screen glitched. Screams echoed in the background.

> "This place… it's her cradle. And her coffin."

The video ended.

Julian's voice was a whisper. "The Prime Node… it's still here."

---

Core Zeta – Below Blacksite

The team prepared to descend further, into the forgotten depths. Creatures howled in the distance, the walls themselves pulsing with energy.

Julian looked at the others. "We end it tonight. Or we don't come back."

Reese smirked. "Finally, a plan I like."

Eve loaded her last clip. "For Max. For everyone."

Together, they stepped into the elevator descending into Core Zeta.

The final war had begun.
