"If you become the Sorcerer Supreme, you'll have the authority to reshape whatever you want in the New York Sanctum."
"You'll be the Supreme Sorcerer by then. All you need is the approval of the other Masters. And now that you possess the Space Stone, it's more than possible," the Ancient One said gently, solemnly, as if bestowing an unparalleled honor upon Alex Ray.
"As long as you become the Sorcerer Supreme, my time will soon be over. Whether or not the New York Sanctum can be relocated will depend entirely on your own abilities," she thought quietly.
Alex's hand paused midair, the teacup hovering as his thoughts swirled in confusion and disbelief.
He glanced at the Ancient One, catching the faint smile on her face. Her eyes, deep and all-seeing, seemed to pierce through to his soul.
"The Sanctum has stood here for centuries. You want me to just⦠move it? Is she overestimating me? I can't even cast a basic spell," Alex thought, stunned.
What he didn't know was that, despite her kind demeanor, the Ancient One was orchestrating something far deeper behind the scenes.
At this point, Alex still believed she was simply willing to wager the New York Sanctumāan ancient and powerful landmarkāas a bargaining chip to persuade him to inherit the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme.
The title certainly sounded prestigious⦠but he really didn't know any magic.
Thinking about the responsibility of protecting Earth, maintaining the mystical defenses, and dealing with the countless crises that would inevitably come with the role, Alex felt a headache growing behind his eyes.
How was he supposed to manage Kamar-Taj when he could barely handle the chaos in Hell's Kitchen?
So he shook his head and refused without hesitation. "Let Strange take the title. He's way more suited for it than I am."
He had already made up his mindāthis was one hot potato he was never going to catch.
"If that's all, Master, I should head downstairs and start preparing dinner," Alex said, effectively issuing an eviction notice.
"Whoever wants to be the Sorcerer Supreme can go right ahead," he thought to himself. "But it's not going to be me."
A flicker of disappointment passed through the Ancient One's gaze, but she didn't press the issue.
She hadn't expected the coveted title, one pursued by sorcerers for centuries, to be flat-out rejected by Alex Ray. Most would give everything for a chance like thisāyet he turned it down again and again.
Still, she understood. Everyone has their own path.
Standing slowly, she said, "Come with me in a few days. There's someone I want you to meet."
Alex frowned. "Master Ancient One, I'm running Hell's Kitchen now. I've got a lot on my plate."
To him, it felt like the Ancient One was trying to make him her personal disciple, dragging him along for everything. The thought left a sour taste in his mouth.
He didn't see her mentorship as a giftāit felt more like a burden.
So he added dryly, "If you really need someone, I can arrange to have a car 'accidentally' hit Strange. Don't worry, Hell's Kitchen is very professional. No casualties guaranteed."
The Ancient One didn't get angry. Instead, she chuckled. "I'm taking you to Asgard. You'll be meeting Odin. If I'm no longer around, Earth will need someone strong to serve as a deterrent against external threats."
Alex understood immediately.
This was her version of a retirement plan. She was planning to leaveāor die. And without her strength anchoring Earth's defenses, she needed someone like him to stand in her place.
Taking him to Asgard was more than a courtesyāit was a coronation.
And he knew why she'd chosen him. He was Strange's friend. The next Sorcerer Supreme.
That made him even more annoyed with Strange, whom he hadn't seen in ages. He made a mental note to give that guy a proper beating the next time they crossed paths.
Still, the idea of visiting Asgard intrigued him. Maybe he'd make some new allies. Maybe even increase a few favorability ratings.
"I wonder if I'll meet Loki⦠the God of Stories," Alex mused.
So he nodded and agreed. He would go to Asgard.
The moment he did, a golden portal shimmered into existence behind the Ancient One. Before stepping through, she reminded him, "There's another parallel universe you haven't explored yet. Come find me when you're ready."
With that, she vanished into the portal, returning to Kamar-Taj.
"This bald lady is way too good at ordering people around," Alex grumbled to himself.
Just then, Wanda knocked on the door, calling him down for dinner.
On the way downstairs, she glanced at him curiously. "What were you doing up there? Why'd it take you so long?"
Alex sighed, explaining the whole encounter with the Ancient One and that he'd soon be leaving the planet again.
Wanda's eyes flashed with resolve.
She had missed the last trip to the parallel universe, and she wasn't about to be left behind again. This time, no matter what, she would go with him.
As Alex stepped into the dining room, he saw three tables filled with familiar facesāall waiting for him.
His heart warmed at the sight.
These weren't just housemates or allies. They were familyāpeople who had chosen to stand by him, fight for him, and live with him, even in the face of chaos.
Taking his seat, Alex allowed himself to relax, soaking in the warmth of the room.
Maybe this was the kind of life he wanted. If he really couldn't return to the world he came from, this wasn't a bad alternative.
Thanks to the system, he didn't feel lost anymore. He had purpose.
But that didn't mean he'd stop trying. Returning home remained his ultimate goalāhis driving force. He wouldn't give up.
Wilson FiskāKingpināstood up, beer in hand. "We're all here because of Alex Ray. As his godfather, I couldn't be prouder. But don't be fooled. He's a lazy bastard."
"If he messes up and you don't want to scold him yourselves, come to me. I'll deal with him."
Laughter erupted around the tables.
Alex shook his head in mock defeat, not bothering to argue. He knew Kingpin meant well.
"Alright, everyoneāglasses up!" Fisk said. "To us, and to this moment together!"
Normally, the Kingpin didn't touch beer, but tonight he made an exception.
"Cheers!" Alex and everyone else stood, glasses raised high, and drank.
The room overflowed with joy and camaraderie. Conversations sparked. Jokes flew. Plates were passed and refilled.
It felt like a real familyāone forged not by blood, but by battle, sacrifice, and shared hope.
Alex lost himself in the moment, smiling at each person in turn, knowing how much they meant to him.
As the meal slowly wound down, a sudden stir of movement drew their attention.
Deadpool stood up, wearing a sly, mischievous grin.
He looked around at everyone and said, "Since everyone's so happy right now, how about we spice things up a bit?"
ā¦
"Alex, didn't I just accept Harry as my apprentice recently, and why didn't you also accept Peter as your apprentice? Why don't you let them compete to see whose apprentice is stronger? The loser has to agree to one of the winner's requests," said Deadpool in a mean way.
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone present showed great interest.
