After the joyful atmosphere of the family gathering, Alex Ray slowly woke up in the warm sunshine early the next morning.
He stretched and savored the rare leisure time.
After getting up, he didn't rush downstairs but stayed upstairs for a while, enjoying the peaceful quiet.
Downstairs, the Good Luck Restaurant had been completely renovated and now served as their gathering place.
The restaurant was bustling with laughter. Harry Osborn and Peter Parker, from the Sam Raimi universe, eagerly rushed into the training area and began an intense sparring session.
Their movements were swift and precise, every attack and defense executed with power and skill.
Tony Stark was deeply immersed in his weapons research and development. Whenever inspiration struck, he would be eager to test his inventions in the training area.
Watching the weapons in action, Tony always wore a satisfied smile.
This kind of immediate feedback was far more invigorating than any trial outside.
Aunt May, who had the day off yesterday, nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw so many people suddenly filling the restaurant, including the famous billionaire Tony Stark.
She initially thought her restaurant had suddenly become popular and felt secretly pleased.
But Aunt May quickly calmed down when Alex Ray explained that these people were his partners, not just guests.
Still, she was stunned by Alex's connections.
She hadn't expected her landlord to know so many powerful people — even billionaire Stark was his friend.
This made Aunt May admire Alex even more. Thinking that little Parker's future was secure, she worked even harder.
Alex paid no mind to the sparring going on downstairs. Instead, he headed straight to the kitchen and busied himself preparing breakfast.
Before he could take a few bites, he suddenly sensed a powerful aura rapidly approaching the restaurant.
He quickly grabbed a freshly baked bun and leapt toward the source of the energy.
Meanwhile, high in the sky, Carol Danvers — Captain Marvel — was flying at an astonishing speed following the tracking data provided by Nick Fury.
She was determined to complete her mission and return to her universe as soon as possible.
Before reaching her destination, two figures suddenly sped toward her like meteors.
Carol's heart tightened. She swiftly adjusted her flight path and met the approaching figures in midair. Both sides came to a halt, forming a tense standoff.
Carol carefully studied the two men, trying to glean more information from their appearances and auras.
The first was a man in a white suit. His face bore a weathered, rugged handsomeness, as if he had endured countless storms yet remained unyielding.
At his side was a wolf, quietly watching, its deep eyes brimming with loneliness.
Though his demeanor seemed casual, Carol could sense the powerful energy radiating from him, like a dormant beast ready to awaken.
The other was an Asian man dressed casually, wearing slippers and holding a bun as if he'd just stepped out of a small diner.
Alex was also sizing up the blond-haired man in the white suit, who wore clothes resembling a superhero uniform — this had to be Captain Marvel, Nick Fury's trump card.
"It looks like I've pushed Nick Fury into a corner, even forcing him to recall Captain Marvel," Alex thought.
Carol knew she had flown into Hell's Kitchen's sphere of influence.
One of these men was likely the target of her mission — the infamous Lord of Hell.
Nick Fury had told her the location and the target's name, but before he could send a photo, Carol was dispatched in haste.
Looking at the two men, Carol felt the one in the white suit fit the profile of the Lord of Hell.
She said to him, "You must be the Lord of Hell. I'm here on Nick Fury's orders."
John Wick—the man in white—turned to Alex beside him.
"Boss, she's here to see you. If there's nothing else, I'll head back," he said.
John had sensed a strong presence approaching the restaurant. Despite his usual laziness, he took his role as security seriously. If the incoming person were hostile, it could cause serious damage. So he intercepted her midair.
John already knew she was here for Alex. Now that he did, there was little else to do.
Upon hearing Carol's words, Alex smiled and continued eating his bun.
Looking at Carol with a teasing glint in his eyes, he said, "No, she came looking for the Lord of Hell, not me, Alex Ray. So, you handle her."
Realizing her mistake, Carol admitted she had misidentified the Lord of Hell.
But it didn't matter to her who he was. She was confident that neither man — alone or combined — would be a match for her.
"You are the Lord of Hell. Nick Fury wants you to know that if you join the Avengers, all your past crimes will be forgiven," Carol said stiffly.
Carol could not understand Fury's constant attempts to recruit villains. To her, anyone unstable was a threat that should be eliminated.
Alex didn't take her words seriously.
He smiled faintly. "That's it? If you have nothing else, please leave. Tell Nick Fury that as long as no one provokes me, I'm still a reasonable man."
He then prepared to depart.
Carol's anger flared at Alex's attitude. She thought she had been kind enough, but this so-called Lord of Hell was openly disrespectful.
She warned coldly, "Are you sure? This is the final ultimatum! Refuse the Avengers, and don't blame us for being harsh!"
Just as she was about to act, Nick Fury's voice rang out through her comms.
"Alex Ray, are you sure you want everyone in Hell's Kitchen to die because of your decision?"
It turned out Nick Fury had installed surveillance and voice devices on Carol.
Alex was unfazed hearing Fury's voice, as if it were all part of his plan.
Calmly, he said, "Still cowardly as ever, Nick Fury. You know if you threaten me, I'll probably kill you."
"How can a mere conversation between us decide Hell's Kitchen's fate? It's ironic. Is this what you call justice?"
"If I give in now, what about next time? Will I have to sacrifice more people?"
"Try whatever tricks you have. I'm ready to face them all."
Turning to Carol, Alex said coldly, "As for you, Captain Marvel, go back to where you came from."
His voice was firm and commanding, brooking no argument.
After speaking, he raised his hand, and a surge of chaotic magic burst from his body.
His right hand quickly traced a circle of golden light, which appeared behind Carol.
Captain Marvel was instantly thrown back into her universe.
Alex didn't know if she would return in time for the upcoming war.
