==============
The top floor of a high-rise apartment overlooking the Arabian Gulf. This is now my home.
As the sun rises, I'm always the first to wake up. From the large living room window, I can see a panoramic view of Dubai's cityscape. The landscape, a mix of modern skyscrapers and ancient Arabian streets, seems to be a reflection of our lives.
"Good morning, Ryuji-kun."
Reiko is the first to get up. As elegant as ever, her silk pajamas shimmer in the morning sun. She is now globally recognized as the music director of the Dubai Opera.
"Shall I make coffee?"
Before I could stop her, Reiko was already heading to the kitchen. This large kitchen is bustling every morning. Preparing breakfast for 13 children and my wives is mainly my job.
"I'll help too."
Misaki also woke up. As a leader of educational reform projects in the Middle East, she now holds an important position at the UN. But at home, she always greets me with her gentle smile.
"It's getting lively now."
Ryoko's cheerful voice. As an Olympic gold medalist, she now holds a key position at the Dubai Sports Council, but today is a holiday, a time to spend with family.
The children's voices gradually begin to echo through the mansion. From the upper floors, from the lower floors. This luxurious home is filled with laughter.
"Papa!"
"Dad!"
"Father!"
The children gather one after another. The twin girls born with Reiko have beautiful black hair inherited from their mother. The children with Misaki retain their cuteness within a dignified demeanor. The children with Ryoko are all active and healthy.
"Today is pancake day."
I pick up a large frying pan. Childcare and housework. This is my current job. It's an important job, supporting my wives who are active globally.
Outside the window, the city of Dubai was about to welcome a new day. Watching this scenery, I sometimes wonder. Is this really reality?
But the children laughing before my eyes. My beloved wives. This happiness is undoubtedly real.
The living room in the morning. I watch my wives on the TV screen while the children play in the playroom.
"And today, Ms. Misaki Satou has been appointed as the new chairperson of the UN Education Conference."
Misaki on the screen is dignified and beautiful. Her speech in perfect English is exactly that of a leader who moves the world.
"It's Mama Misaki!"
One of the twins points.
"So cool!"
Changing the channel, Ryoko appears. It's a scene where she's attending the opening ceremony of a new facility as a special advisor to the Dubai Sports Promotion Agency.
"Mama Misaki is amazing!"
Ryoko's eldest son says proudly.
And on another channel, Reiko's concert is being broadcast. Her conducted performance, which filled the Dubai Opera House, is critically acclaimed worldwide.
"Mama Reiko's music is like an angel's song."
The youngest girl's eyes sparkle.
My wives, shining in the world. But when they come home, they are all gentle mothers and loving wives.
"Ryuji-kun."
The living room door opens, and Reiko returns. She came home during her lunch break.
"I've made lunch."
"Thank you. You're still the perfect househusband."
Reiko smiles gently.
"I think I can come home early today."
A message from Misaki arrives.
"I'll cut my practice short too."
A message also came from Ryoko.
Even if they are busy, they cherish this time with family in the evening. They move the world, but they wouldn't give up this happy time at home for anything.
"Papa, what are you making tonight?"
The children look up at me with expectant eyes.
"Let's see..."
I pretend to ponder.
"Shall we take everyone's requests?"
Lively voices echo. This sound is the melody of my current happiness.
And this mansion has a floor exclusively for children. A pool, a gym, a library, and a music room. All spaces to develop the children's talents.
"Dad, watch!"
Shion, Reiko's eldest daughter, begins to play a new song. Her musical talent, inherited from her mother, has already received high praise in competitions.
"Me too! Me too!"
Riko, Misaki's second daughter, holds her violin. Their duet begins.
"Papa, I set a new record!"
Hiroto, Ryoko's eldest son, comes to report his swimming record in the pool. As a promising future swimmer, he has already attracted attention.
Each child is blossoming their own talents. But I never force them. I just gently support the budding potential.
"Papa."
Mizuki, Reiko's second daughter, sits on my lap.
"What story will you read me today?"
The library is stocked with fairy tales from around the world. The children learn various languages and cultures through books.
"Let's see..."
I scan the bookshelf.
"How about 'Arabian Nights' today?"
"Yay!"
The children gather around.
Story time. This is also one of our important daily routines. Through stories, the children's imaginations expand.
"Hey, Papa."
Keita, Misaki's eldest son, asks a question.
"Aren't we a little different from normal families?"
I think for a moment before answering.
"That's right. But the feeling of loving each other is the same as any family."
"Yeah!"
Hinata and Yuina, Ryoko's twins, nod simultaneously.
"We're a happy family, aren't we!"
My chest warms at those words. The pure smiles of the children. It was the best proof that this family's form was correct.
"Oh, you've come again."
I turned at Reiko's voice and saw familiar faces. Momota and Saya, and their three children.
"Excuse us for intruding."
Saya greeted elegantly. Having had her memory erased, she is now a happy wife and mother.
"The children wanted to see you."
Momota smiled shyly. He too had become remarkably calm after his memory was erased.
The children had already started playing in the garden pool. The Momota family's children and my children. Even without a blood connection, they are as close as real siblings.
"Thank you for erasing my memory."
Momota whispered to me. He chose a moment when no one else was around.
"I found true happiness."
His eyes were moist with heartfelt gratitude.
"Thank you for changing my encounter with Saya into a chance reunion during a trip..."
His voice trembled.
"Thanks to that, everything flowed naturally."
I nodded silently. At that time, whether erasing their memories was the right choice. I still sometimes wonder.
But looking at the two smiling happily in front of me, I believe it was the right thing to do.
"The children are truly adorable."
Saya smiled gently. Even though her memory was erased, her kindness hadn't changed.
"Indeed,"
I smiled back.
Watching this scene, I sometimes wonder. Is the act of erasing memories truly a sin? But the happiness born from it is certainly real.
The children's cheers echoed from the garden. Their laughter seemed to be the answer to everything.
"Hinata and the others are coming next year?"
Ryoko called out happily. A family meeting was being held in the living room after dinner.
"Yes,"
Reiko nodded gracefully.
"Kokoro-chan and the others will be with them too."
"They've grown up so much."
Misaki said nostalgically.
Next year. The year they turn 18. And the time they officially join this family.
"More moms?"
The youngest Misaki's eyes sparkled.
"That's right,"
I gently stroked her head.
"They're wonderful moms."
"I can't wait!"
The children cheered.
"We'll have to prepare their rooms too."
Reiko began to talk systematically.
"I wonder if Hinata-chan would like to be near the music room."
"Kokoro-chan would like to be near the dojo."
Ryoko suggested.
"I'm sure both of them will settle in quickly."
Misaki said with conviction.
I smiled silently.
"Ryuji-kun."
Reiko took my hand.
"It's okay."
Misaki smiled gently.
"Because we're here."
Ryoko nodded strongly.
I feel a deep sense of relief from my wives' words. This family will continue to grow. It's not a forced destiny, but a future that everyone desired.
"Papa, is our family special?"
Reiko's eldest daughter asked curiously.
"That's right,"
I answered gently. As the quiet of the night approached. After putting the children to bed, the adults' time finally began.
"It was lively again today, wasn't it?"
Reiko tilted her wine glass. From the penthouse terrace, the night view of Dubai could be seen in its entirety.
"Every day is fulfilling."
Misaki also sat next to me.
"It must be tough for you, Ryuji-kun?"
Ryoko looked at me worriedly.
"No,"
I shook my head.
"This is happiness."
Wives active globally. Talented children. Lively and warm days.
"But more will be added from now on, you know?"
Reiko said playfully.
"It's okay."
I answered with conviction.
"Because this happiness can be shared by everyone."
"Ryuji-kun,"
Misaki smiled gently.
"You've become truly strong."
"Yeah,"
Ryoko nodded.
"Even though you used to bear everything alone."
"Because everyone is here for me."
I looked up at the night sky.
"I was able to become strong."
Under the starry sky, the four of us spent a quiet time. From tomorrow, the lively days will begin again. But that is the life we wished for.
"Hey,"
Reiko suddenly said.
"What do you think happiness is?"
"That is..."
I thought for a moment before answering.
"This very moment, I suppose."
The three smiled gently. Their smiles seemed to hold all the answers.
Late at night, I gaze at the images displayed on my study monitor. These are records of regular video calls with family members remaining in Japan.
"Dad, today at the daycare, you see..."
An image of Misae's child cheerfully talking. Playing the role of a single mother, she lives proudly, having gained understanding from those around her. She raises her child with definite love.
"Sensei, how is the child doing?"
A call with Ms. Ooyama. She too is living a new life as a mother. While active as a hospital director, she also shows her face as a mother.
"Papa, watch!"
Footage of Kiyomi and her children. But the children adore me as their real father.
"She's becoming proficient in languages, and of course, I'm teaching her Japanese too."
"Papa!"
Anri and her child, who are studying abroad.
"I'm looking forward to next year."
A message from Hinata. She'll be 18 soon. She, along with Kokoro and the others, will become a part of this family. Expectation and resolve shine in their eyes.
"We too, soon..."
Karina, Erika, Aira, Mao. Messages keep arriving from them as well. Everyone's chosen future is their own will. It's not manipulated memories, but pure feelings.
"It's strange, isn't it?"
Reiko approaches from behind.
"Even though everyone lives in different places,"
"But we're certainly connected."
Misaki also joins in.
"As one big family, Hinata and Mom will be with us from next year too."
Ryoko continues.
I nod silently. People living their own lives in the distant land of Japan. But they are bound by a definite bond.
"Next year, our family will grow again, won't it?"
Reiko smiles gently.
"Yeah,"
I reply.
"Because everyone chose this path by their own will."
The smiling faces on the screen. They might be fabricated memories. But the love that was born from them is undoubtedly real.
"Love comes in many forms, doesn't it?"
Misaki says quietly.
"Yes,"
I nod deeply.
"That's why we can make everyone happy."
Late at night in Dubai, I think of the flowers blooming in Japan. Families cultivating true love in their respective places. All of them were my precious treasures.
The mansion is unusually quiet. The children are at the exclusive international school's nursery, and only Reiko, Misaki, Ryoko, and I are in the large living room.
"It's been a while, hasn't it, to have it this quiet?"
Reiko sits gracefully on the sofa. The space, usually bustling with children's voices, is enveloped in a calm atmosphere for adults only.
"It's nice once in a while, isn't it?"
Misaki smiles while pouring coffee.
"The children seemed to be enjoying themselves too."
"That nursery is truly wonderful, isn't it?"
Ryoko turns back from the window.
"In a multinational environment, the children's potential expands."
All three decided to take the day off work and spend it at home. It's an unusual choice, but sometimes it's a necessary time.
"Hey,"
Reiko suddenly begins.
"I want a new baby."
"Eh?"
I turn around in surprise.
"I was thinking about it too."
Misaki says with a serious expression.
"It's about time... isn't it?"
"Yeah, yeah!"
Ryoko agrees cheerfully.
"I want one too. I think the children would be happy."
"But... there are already 13 of them..."
I say, bewildered.
"It's not about the number, is it?"
Reiko smiles gently.
"If there's love, you can share it infinitely."
"That's right,"
Misaki sits next to me.
"Ryuji-kun, I'm sure..."
"You can love us more and more!"
Ryoko hugs me from behind.
As the morning sunlight brightly illuminates the room, the eyes of the three sparkle with anticipation.
"Everyone..."
Words catch in my throat. This happiness of being loved like this. It was more certain than any memory.
"I'll do my best,"
I answer gently.
"But I'll make you faint again, is that okay?"
"Of course,"
Reiko nods happily.
"We are,"
Misaki adds.
"Your captives!"
Ryoko says brightly.
The quiet morning hours flow by. My heart warms at the possibility of nurturing new life again.
In the evening, just before the children return. I stand in front of a world map.
"Look,"
Reiko points to various places on the map.
"Our love has spread this far."
In Japan, Misae and Ms. Ooyama, and their children.
In America, the older children studying abroad with Anri.
In Europe, the children studying music.
And here in Dubai, our new family.
"Next year,"
Misaki places a new pin on the map.
"Here, and here too."
Hinata, Kokoro, Karina, Erika, Aira, Mao.
Pins marking the places where they will join. They shine on the map like a testament to new love.
"Our love is,"
Ryoko says with deep emotion.
"Truly mysterious, isn't it?"
It's not a normal form.
But there is certain happiness.
It is bound by bonds deeper than the number of pins on the map.
"From now on too,"
Reiko says quietly.
"I'm sure it will spread even further."
The possibility of new life.
Growing children.
And the family members who will join.
"Our love has,"
Misaki smiles gently.
"Still more possibilities, doesn't it?"
"Yeah,"
Ryoko nods powerfully.
"Because Ryuji-kun is here."
I silently gaze at the three of them. This form of love, spreading across the world. It must have been the right choice.
Outside the window, the setting sun is sinking below the desert horizon. Tomorrow, a new love story will begin. It's a special story that only we can create.
I sigh deeply.
"Was this truly the right thing to do?"
"Ryuji-kun."
The three look at me simultaneously.
"Look,"
Reiko takes my hand.
"This warmth is real."
"Feel it,"
Misaki leans in.
"This happiness is reality."
"Believe it,"
Ryoko says strongly.
"Our love is second to none."
"This love is real."
Misaki continues.
"Forever and always."
Ryoko concludes powerfully.
I gaze at the three of them.
And I become certain.
This is the right path we have chosen.
Erasing memories might have been a sin.
But the love born from it is an undeniable truth.
Their smiles prove it.
"New life,"
Reiko places her hand on my abdomen.
"New family,"
Misaki touches my cheek.
"New future,"
Ryoko puts her arm around my shoulder.
"Please continue to be with me,"
I say quietly.
"Everyone."
The three smile gently.
"Ryuji-kun."
Reiko's voice resonates gently. Her black hair is illuminated by the moonlight, radiating a mystical glow.
"Stay by my side forever."
Misaki takes my hand. Deep affection dwells in her eyes.
"Us,"
Ryoko leans closer. Her athlete-trained body conveys soft warmth.
"Love us eternally."
I face each one individually.
Each personality.
Each scent.
Each warmth.
Reiko's elegance.
Misaki's dignity.
Ryoko's healthy beauty.
The love of the three, on this night, shines within me in a new form.
"I love you."
"I love you."
"I love you."
The three voices overlap. It is a vow of eternity. With hope for the possibility of nurturing new life.
Outside the window, the night view of Dubai sparkles. And our love, too, shone like this night sky.
