Episode 3: The Curse Beneath Our Stars

Juvia stared at the rooftop door long after Ha-jun left, her heart pounding like a wild drum.

A curse? Lifetimes? What is he talking about?

The words wouldn't leave her alone. They chased her thoughts as she walked home in silence, barely aware of the wind brushing her cheeks or the sun dipping into a soft twilight.

She could still feel the memory—the garden, the moon, the sorrow in his voice. It wasn't like any dream she'd ever had.

And something inside her—deep and old—knew it was real.

But how could that be possible?

At dinner, her family laughed over a comedy show. Her mom asked about her day. Juvia just nodded, pushing her rice around with her spoon. Her older brother, Joon, nudged her playfully.

"Still moon-gazing?"

She froze.

Joon grinned. "You used to always talk about the moon when we were kids. Said it whispered secrets."

"I did?" she asked, voice quiet.

He blinked. "Yeah. You don't remember?"

She didn't.

But the moon still whispered.

That night, Juvia stepped outside after everyone had gone to bed. The moon was high—bright and beautiful. She stared up at it, and for a moment, everything went silent.

Then—her phone vibrated in her pocket.

A message.

From an unknown number.

> "Stay away from him… or you'll lose everything."

Her breath caught. Her hands trembled.

She looked around. No one.

The wind picked up.

Suddenly, footsteps behind her.

She turned—

And saw Ha-jun.

Standing in the shadows, face unreadable.

"You weren't supposed to get involved this soon," he said.

Her voice came out in a whisper. "Someone just threatened me…"

He closed the distance between them in three long steps, snatching the phone from her hand. His eyes scanned the message. His jaw tightened.

"They've already found you."

"Who?" she asked. "Who's they?"

He didn't answer. Instead, he looked at her with something close to pain in his eyes. "This world… It's not safe for you anymore."

"I don't care," she said, louder now. "I want the truth."

He looked at her for a long time. And for the first time, something cracked in his icy exterior.

"I made a vow, Juvia. That I'd protect you in every life."

He took a shaky breath.

"But in the last one… I failed."

She stared at him. "What happened to me?"

He hesitated.

"You died," he said finally. "Because of me."

The night around them seemed to freeze.

Juvia's knees weakened, but Ha-jun caught her before she could fall. His arms wrapped around her, warm, steady—painfully familiar.

Memories flickered in her chest like sparks.

The garden.

The sword.

A kiss beneath falling stars.

Tears welled in her eyes.

"I don't remember everything," she whispered. "But when you hold me… it feels like home."

Ha-jun closed his eyes, like her words cut him deeply. When he opened them again, they glistened with emotion.

"I don't want to lose you again," he murmured.

"Then don't," she said.

But the wind howled louder now. And from the shadows behind them, something unseen stirred.

Watching.

Waiting.
