Chapter 196 - Chapter 196: Condition

From the earlier talk, it became clear that the man with glasses had created a pair of high-tech glasses with many functions, one of which was blocking mental powers.

Because the cost was too high, he only gave Moses a pair in secret without telling anyone.

That was why he was so sure Moses could never be controlled by mental powers.

Everyone present knew the man with glasses well. They knew he was one of the greatest scientists in Gotham's history, so building something that could block mental powers was not too shocking for him.

Many of the Court of Owls' advanced weapons were made by him.

Even the A.I. "Owl" was born under his lead.

So when he spoke, no one doubted his words.

"Moses, that's not right of you. How could you keep such a good thing to yourself?" one member, whose status was no lower than Moses', questioned.

"This is not the time to talk about that. I'll give you all an explanation later," Moses said in a deep voice.

That man knew the time and place, so he stopped pressing and gave the stage back to Moses.

Moses didn't waste words. He went straight to the point, asking, "This matter is not impossible to discuss. But I want to know, why are you doing this? Do you want to use Deadshot to spread your power into Gotham?"

"You're overthinking."

Gilbert gave a dry laugh. "A small Gotham is not worth us making a special trip."

This answer made many people present feel frustrated…

What did he mean by "a small Gotham is not worth it"? Didn't that mean all their years of schemes and fights were nothing but a joke?

If someone else had said that, they would have flipped the table.

But right now, they were not as strong as the other side. Even if they felt humiliated, they could only hold it in. In fact, they also felt a bit relieved.

As long as the other side's goal was not to steal their turf, then everything could be talked about. Even Amanda, who had been very tough with her words, secretly felt relieved.

She had gotten worked up before because she thought they wanted to stretch their hand into Gotham and take it from them.

Now it seemed like a misunderstanding.

Of course, it was also possible they were lying to lower everyone's guard.

But that was only a possibility. The truth still had to be seen in what happened next.

Moses also felt humiliated like the others, but he knew he had to stay calm. Only by being calm could the talk continue.

"Then what is your goal?" he kept pressing.

Gilbert waved his hand. "There's no harm in telling you. We came here mainly to take in Deadshot as a new member…"

"But he gave us one condition. He wants to be like Batman, a famous superhero in Gotham, known by everyone, admired by his daughter. Only then will he agree to leave with us."

Hearing this, Amanda couldn't help asking, "You're so powerful, don't you have a way to control him?"

"Control?"

Gilbert shook his head with a smile. "Of course, we have ways. And not as crude as yours…"

"But we want partners who join us willingly, not slaves who obey only because they're forced."

"In that state, he's nothing more than a puppet with a bit of power, not worth mentioning… Forget it. At your level, even if I told you, you wouldn't understand. Believe it or not, it's up to you."

Gilbert's earlier words had already made Amanda dismissive.

But his last line still made her so angry she almost exploded—yet she had no choice but to hold it in.

Unlike Amanda, Moses was thoughtful. "It seems your organization really isn't simple. To bring in just one new member, you're willing to go through so much trouble. Impressive, impressive…"

"Trouble? Not really. It's just like a trip."

Moses took a deep breath and pressed on. "From what you just said, once Deadshot becomes a superhero like Batman, you'll leave Gotham?"

Gilbert shrugged. "Of course. Didn't I say it already? A small Gotham isn't worth us staying for long."

"If Deadshot joins us, he'll naturally leave with us. Why would he stay here, playing these boring power games with you?"

His words were still as infuriating as ever.

But by now, the people present were slowly getting used to his way of speaking. They ignored the insulting parts and focused only on the useful information.

When they heard Deadshot would leave Gotham with them after this, Moses finally let out a sigh of relief.

It proved his guess was right.

Their goal was neither Gotham nor the Court of Owls.

If it was just to fulfill Deadshot's wish of being admired by his daughter, then it wasn't something they couldn't accept.

"If everything you said is true, then I can speak for the Court of Owls—we accept your request." Moses said carefully.

"Don't agree so fast. I still have one more condition." Gilbert cut him off.

"Please, go on—"

"I want this done within a month. Can you make it happen?"

"This… might be hard." Moses frowned. "Batman didn't become famous just by defeating one villain. His name was built up over time."

"Of course I know that. If it was easy, why would I need you?" Gilbert replied like it was obvious.

"But it's not as hard as you think. If Deadshot takes down two big threats to Gotham at the same time, wouldn't that be enough?"

"Two big threats? Who do you mean?"

"Naturally, the Joker and the Enchantress."

Moses raised a brow. "If he really could pull that off, then yes, with a little publicity the goal could be reached. But the question is—can he really do it?"

"If he can't, aren't we here too? Surely you don't think we'd just stand by and watch?" Gilbert gave him a surprised look.

"Ah yes, I was being foolish!"

Moses said, then smiled and held out his hand. "Then let's wish for a happy partnership in advance…"

Gilbert only gave a grunt through his nose and didn't shake hands.

And in the next moment—

"Moses? Why are you all staring at me?" Gilbert's tone suddenly turned strange.
