Chapter 3 - Ren & Kai - Part 3

"Game Room Heat"

( Reality Hits Back )

Days passed since that dream.

Kai tried to shake it off - chalk it up to his subconscious playing games. Summer break had blurred into lazy afternoons and half-finished plans, but the echo of that dream - Ren's voice, that heat, that kiss clung to him like a second skin.

Still, he told himself reality would be dull in comparison. It always was.

The first day of the new academic year arrived with no real expectations. Kai pulled on his usual oversized hoodie, slung his bag over his shoulder, and made his way to campus, half-awake and ready to watch the year loop itself all over again.

The bell rang. Students filed into class.

Kai took his seat at the back, stifling a yawn.

Then the door opened again.

The teacher entered, followed by him.

Kai's breath hitched.

It was Ren.

Same sharp eyes. Same cool air around him. Like he didn't need to try to make everyone look.

The teacher introduced him briefly, just another transfer student joining late.

Ren scanned the room and his gaze landed directly on Kai.

Kai sat frozen as Ren moved forward and took the seat directly in front of him. He didn't dare say anything as the lecture had already started but his heart raced like he was back in that neon-lit dream, sweat slicking his palms for no good reason.

His body begged him to just grab Ren by his collar, slam him on the desk, and pull him in for a raw and passionate kiss. He blinked rapidly, trying to calm himself down as the lecture continued.

As the day dragged on, Kai tried to play it cool. Tried to remind himself it was all just coincidence.

Until the games period.

Everyone headed down to the courts, noise bouncing off the walls as basketballs hit the floor and students shouted to each other.

Kai did his best to focus on the game, but his eyes kept darting to where Ren moved like fluid, unbothered, confident. Just like in the dream.

When the period ended, the teacher called out, "Ren, Kai – you two stay back and help sort the basketballs into the storage room."

Kai's stomach flipped.

Ren just turned, smiled at him, and said, "Guess we're on ball duty together."

That smile hit Kai like a lightning bolt.

They walked together into the games room. A tight space, walls lined with shelves and equipment crates. They worked in silence, stacking basketballs, occasionally brushing hands, both trying to act unbothered. But the room was warm. The air was heavy.

By the time they were done, they were gasping for air, shirts clinging to damp skin, sweat shining on their necks and arms.

Suddenly they heard a click. Kai looked towards the door and tried the handle.

It didn't budge.

Ren blinked, ran towards the door, tried it himself.

"Did the professor just–?" he asked, glancing over. "Seriously?"

He leaned his back against the door and chuckled, wiping his forehead. "Guess we're both stuck now."

Kai didn't answer.

The room was too small. Too hot. And Ren was standing too close.

His chest rose and fell with every breath, eyes glinting beneath the low fluorescent lights. Kai's mind reeled–flashing again to that dream, to Ren whispering "Dance with me," to hands on skin, lips on lips.

And just like that, Kai moved.

He turned towards Ren, and without thinking, he grabbed Ren by the waist and pulled him in, his hands trembled as he looked at Ren in the eye.

Their lips met – hot, desperate, real.

Ren stiffened for a second, surprised.

Then pushed him away, breathless.

"Kai! – what are you doing?"

Kai's heart thundered against his ribs. "I - I'm sorry. I just–"

He faltered, unsure if he should step back or stay.

Ren didn't speak. His eyes searched Kai's face. Not angry. Just confused. Caught off guard.

Something in Ren's eyes hit him hard in the gut. Something that screamed out to him to not let Ren go. He couldn't just let him go like he did from his ex crush. Ren was different, meant for him.

So Kai stepped forward again, instinctively, slower this time.

His lips brushed Ren's, more gentle now. Careful. Asking.

And this time… Ren kissed him back.

No hesitation.

Just Heat.

Ren's hand tangled in Kai's hair, which was damp from the sweat. Kai backed him against the shelves, barely thinking. The kiss turned rougher–wet, messy, teeth clashing, breath hitching. Fingers tugged at clothes. The room swirled with their heat, the scent of sweat and something darker, something electric.

When they finally pulled away, chests heaving, Ren looked at him–flushed, lips swollen, eyes unreadable.

Then he smirked, leaned in and whispered, voice hoarse but teasing:

"You're still thinking about that bus stop, aren't you?"

Kai grinned, breathless. "I've been thinking about nothing but you since then."

Ren smiled, " And I haven't stopped thinking about you either."

Then, he pulled Kai in for another Kiss – this time, like he truly meantit.

The End.
