Chapter 6 - Evolution Trigger **

When the memories streams ended, he realized he hadn't just watched them as one would watch a movie, he had lived them. They felt as real to him as the life he had lived as 'Kevin' felt real to him. Realer even considering this body still existed and his body as Kevin had been turned to nothing.

He heard the snap of fingers and suddenly his hand was back on Arlette's waist with the other hand lightly holding her arm. His canines were fangs sunk into her neck with his mouth a seal over it to keep the blood from spilling so it went into his mouth and directly down his throat.

Speaking of the blood, it was moving again and so did Arlette who groaned and continued to grip the edge of her desk.

Time had resumed as if the conversation with Samantha had never happened.

"Caius," Arlette said in a low breathy voice.

The name no longer sounded strange and his brain reacted to it like anyone would react to hearing their name called. That was who he was now; He was Caius Von Helsing.

And as Caius Von Helsing, there was so much he now understood that had never been outright written in the original story of [To Kill A Demon Lord…]. The most immediate example of this was his knowledge of his 'Evolution Trigger'.

'Evolution Triggers' are emotions such as Sadness, Happiness, Anger, and even Fear that Vampires must elicit in their victims, and by feeding on that Emotionally charged blood, they can evolve their Vampiric Bloodline.

If a Vampire's Evolution Trigger is Fear, then its victims must feel fear before it feeds on them unless it'll only be feeding to satisfy its thirst and not to evolve. If it's happiness, the process is the same and so is the case for every other emotion.

A Vampire only has one Evolution Trigger i.e. one emotion that it must incite in its victims for evolution and they always know it instinctively. It's not taught or mastered, it's just naturally understood.

And now that he had all the memories, Caius finally understood what was never said in the original story; His Evolution trigger was 'Arousal'.

It was why Caius was always so unnaturally charming. His entire nature, his entire being from the moment he was turned, and maybe even before that, was almost engineered precisely to arouse his targets.

Caius in the original story had known this and was why he shunned all romantic relationships so he didn't get tempted to evolve a part of himself he considered a disease.

And of course, despite not putting it in writing in the original story, Samantha knew about it as well and that was why she talked him into 'Exciting' Arlette before drinking from her.

Caius took his left hand off Arlette's waist and placed it on the other side of her neck as though to hold it in place while his right hand left her arm to wound around her waist and pull her closer to his body.

"Oh," Arlette let out in a tone very close to a moan as her breasts pressed hard against Caius's chest.

The bite into her neck certainly stung and the loss of blood certainly felt like a loss, but for some reason she couldn't quite explain, it also felt good. There was a transference happening and while it was mostly tilted toward Caius as the feeding Vampire, there was also something seeping into her.

When Arlette let out that moan, Caius tasted a spike in the energy in her blood and his red eyes seemed to glisten in realization;

Of course!

Arousal has stages and it always builds to a peak… To a climax. The excitement he had managed to incite in Arlette was merely a start.

He gripped her hip firmly and then his hand roamed until he was holding and squeezing her ass as best he could in her seating position. He was so in tune with the situation that his body felt every shudder, every shake, everything that hinted at her building excitement.

He let what he was feeling guide him until his hands roamed from her ass to one of her legs. He pushed aside the silky material of her gown to give himself a larger area to touch.

"What— Ahn!" Arlette let out a groan and took one of her hands off the edge of her desk to grip handfuls of his hair. At first, it felt like she was about to pull him away and then she just pulled him closer.

'I have a lot of blood,' she told herself in an almost delirious train of thought, 'I can afford to let him continue. Just… just for a little bit longer…'

Her brain noted his wandering hand on her lower half. The way his grip loosened and tightened again and again around her thigh as he caressed his way to her inner thighs and closer to a center she knew she should not be allowing him to reach. And yet, she couldn't help it.

'This!' Caius thought with delight, 'This is what that idiot was missing!'

His thoughts were obviously referring to the Caius in the original story. The one who had made all the choices Kevin had read and believed to be wrong.

Leaning away as best he could without breaking the connection between his fangs and mouth to Arlette's neck, Caius dropped his hand from her neck into the pocket of space he had managed between them.

His hand grazed over the smoothness of one of her breasts where it wasn't covered by fabric and then he dipped in and cupped his palm over the Professor's hardening nipple.

Arlette's body shook harder than it had so far.

"No…" she gasped and Caius could have sworn he felt just a dash of wetness in the inner thighs his other hand was exploring.

And then it was gone.

Arlette took her other hand off the desk and grabbed his wrist to pull his hand away. The move was so fast and smooth that Caius had no real idea when it happened. One minute his hand was there, starting to follow the trail of wetness, and the next, it was gone and pulled to the side.

She also pulled at his hair until his fangs were out of her neck and she was staring into those red eyes that looked hungry and thirsty at the same time.

"That's enough, don't you think?" She asked in a slightly breathy voice and with a smirk on her face,

"Any more and I'll run dry."

Caius chuckled as his fangs rescinded in his mouth and became normal teeth again.

"I think you could manage," he said as his red eyes turned back to their normal violet.

"I'm not sure I could," Arlette said with a chuckle of her own, "You were very… enthusiastic."

She placed a lot of emphasis on the last word with her eyes darting down at Caius' hand still inside the front of her gown and cupping her breast.

"What?" Caius asked almost innocently and then rolled his eyes, "I'm not taking it out."

As though to punctuate his words, he gave the breast a squeeze before stroking the hard nipple with his palm. Arlette's heart beat a few beats faster and there was a spike in the charge of arousal in her blood. Caius could tell because he could smell it and the drops that were seeping out of the bite mark still in her neck were so tempting.

Arlette gripped his wrist and pulled his hand out of the front of her gown and off her breast. She looked almost reluctant to do it and when Caius stretched his hand to swipe the drops of blood on her neck away and lick them off his fingers, her eyes followed the move before settling on his lips.

"So I take it you believe I'm on your side now?" she asked with her tongue trailing out of her mouth and stroking her lower lips sensuously.

"And why exactly is it important to you that I do?" Caius asked looking like the recent feeding had cleared his mind and was making it easier for him to think. In reality, he was just in a more assured position thanks to his inherited memories and his understanding of his reason for being here at all.

"Well, the Academy can be a lonely place for your kind. I'd like to be your Safe haven. To keep your secret and help you 'manage' your condition as no one else out there will," Arlette said.

Caius sank into his chair looking up at the Professor still seated on her desk,

"That's a big commitment to make," he said.

"I can handle it."

"Are you sure?" Caius asked again with narrowed eyes,

"Because you've introduced me to a lifestyle I'm not used to. To Blood more tasty than I've ever indulged in before.

To make good on your proposal will mean you'd have to continue to sustain me.

Can you?"
