Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Peach Fruits are Delicious

Rising at the light of dawn, Carnes ate the last of the fish he had from the Spawn Island.

After all to Carnes that is where he spawned in this world.

Once Carnes had his fill he got to work taking out his X-ray glasses and his map, "Alright I'll have this island mapped by the afternoon."

Carnes ran through the forest before inevitably crashing into a ditch just moments after starting.

"Shit that was bound to happen at one point or another."

He quickly got up, reset his glasses and only hid wood before climbing out the ditch.

Peach Island was filled with only the type of tree he saw at the beginning.

There didn't seem to be any other type of tree around here.

He found a lake on the other side of the island that caught his interest when he had an idea to hide water briefly.

Doing so made the lake disappear, allowing him to see floating fish and all the different plants at the bottom of the lake.

'It worked!'

Carnes felt regret eating a devil fruit so soon.

'There must be countless treasures at the bottom of the sea that will probably never see the light of day!'

'After all, devil fruits shouldn't expire or despawn until they are eaten and the user is killed.'

'If one was stored in a chest that sank to the bottom of the ocean,' Carnes grabbed his head, admonishing himself from eating a fruit.

'Wait I'll just hire a fishman, and create a diving suit, or a submarine and command them in my stead.'

'But fishman are in the grandline... a thought for later.'

Carnes continued his mapping of the island when he finally finished just a bit after noon, 'no devil fruit.'

Although there was no devil to be found, Carnes returned to a pit he had come across towards the end of the mapping.

It was exposed stone, but when looking at it he quickly found out it was copper ore.

Now Carnes didn't know how much it's worth but it's gotta be worth more than some charcoal.

Wasting no time Carnes cleared the area and started clearing the surrounding dirt away before hacking away at the exposed copper ore

Luckily when breaking a perfectly shaped cube or copper ore, he only received pieces of stone balls, and a raw chunk of the copper ore.

Though the sizes of the raw copper ore differed in sizes even if they stacked in his inventory.

Carnes was careful when mining as he didn't want the surrounding to collapse on him so he took his time to simply clearing the area farther away before digging down for more copper.

Carnes was so focused on mining that he spent the rest of the day mining and clearing the area before deciding that around two stacks of raw copper should be fine for now.

Carnes tossed the stones back into the pit as he figured he only needed a stack of stone.

Once the stones expanded he threw the stacks of dirt he had around the area leaving a ditch of dirt.

Carnes watched as the copper smelted in the furnace as he munched on some wild berries he found through the search.

'When I go into town I should stock up on some food that's stackable.'

As he was eating the wild berries when the ground started vibrating, it wasn't long till a group of rabbits with big feet started jumping around.

Carnes' eyes bulged as the rabbits' feet were definitely more than the size of the rest of their body.

'I was wondering when I would come across something weird,'

Carnes paused, 'There better not be a seaking on the next trip.'

Carnes, not tired, and it being night, decided to try to do more pushups, seeing how many he could do before stopping.

"991….992…..992...993....994...995….996.....997....998...….999....and 1000!"

Carnes couldn't help but admire himself after accomplishing something he could never do in his previous life.

Yet despite this unfathomable achievement that probably couldn't be done by the people in his previous Carnes could help but feel that it was lacking.

His body wasn't sore, it felt as if he was simply going through the motions.

"Maybe I should add more weight," muttered Carnes as he counted the cooked copper, noting that he has exactly 87 ingots of copper with four nuggets.

Carnes went to town, particularly the blacksmith as he wanted to see how much he can sell a copper ingot for.

Just as he approached the store, 'Oh shit, I showed my power to the old man,' yet Carnes shrugged his shoulders, 'What does it matter? It's an old man, I'll just say his eyesight is getting worse.

Carnes entered the store and saw the same old grumpy man, he quickly gave a smile, "Old man, I need to know how much is this worth?"

Carnes asked as he quickly approached and placed a copper ingot.

The old man seeing the ingot couldn't help but grow serious as he grabbed and inspected,

'This sheen, The color, the shape, the weight.' The old man grew skeptical as he figured if it was probably weighted with a different material.

Especially since he recognized the young man as the dumbass that bought raw iron ore.

"Do you mind if I take it at the back? I want to check its purity."

Carnes smiled, "Sure old man,"

The old man went to the back and carefully examined it, weighing it to make sure its weight consisted of that of its size.

'10lb copper ingot relative to its sign seems normal.'

'Market price should be 3,893 thousand.'

Afterwards he took under a glass making sure no visible signs of tampering were made.

'Now for the real test,' the old man drilled into the copper three holes taking notice of the resistance the copper ingot gave him.

He then took the shavings, putting a piece of liquid to determine whether it was copper even if it did look like copper.

He came back out to counter, "The ingot is worth around 3,890 berries, I tested and drilled some holes, so as an apology I'll pay 4,500 berries for this ingot."

The old man then said, "if you got more I'll take them but I'll only pay 3,900 berries for them, they are of good quality,"

"No problem, old man, I got 86 other ingots just like it, " Carnes materialized the Minituarize copper onto the counter.

The old man eyed the small copper pieces in front of him, "Is this a joke?"

Carnes waved his hand, "Just wait a moment," not long after the copper ingot grew in size startling the old man.

"I thought the first time I met you my eyes were playing tricks on me when that crate of iron ore disappeared, but now you miniaturize copper ingots out of nowhere and you grew them in size."

"I didn't make their size bigger, that's their original size, but I can make them smaller as long as they remain in my hands."

The old man slapped his face in disbelief at the motion of someone being able to make items disappear and reappear, and making those items shrink in size.

Finishing his thought, the old man grew solemn, "You didn't steal these did you?"

Carnes eyed the old man, "No I didn't steal them, but old man I'll do you a solid, there's a copper vein on this island."

"If you want I can show you the exact location."

"Why would you tell.....wait, that doesn't explain how you made these ingots, there's no other blacksmith in town."

Carnes sighed, "Are you really questioning someone who can make thing disappear?" Carnes casually took out his iron sword leaning on it causing the old man to freeze.

Carnes pressed, "What are you going to do tell others, That man he has a sword and a bunch of ingots?"

Carnes did a twirl screeching the sword on the floor, when he looked at the man again, he raised his hands, "What sword?"

Then he casually waved his hands over the copper ingots and they disappeared one by one, "What ingots?"

"Old man don't ask question that shouldn't be asked,"

"Now there is tension between us old man, but I gotta say there's really a copper vein on this island, but I'm not really inclined to share it for free anymore."

"I'll pay for all the ingot as the same as the first one," said the old man.

Carnes did the mental math, "50,000 more berries doesn't seem quite sincere."

"I can't give you more, it's my savings for retirement."

"No son or daughter?"

The old man's expression darkened, "A son, but he's with the marines now. He didn't want to inherit the business."

"Well you better convince him to come back, because I wasn't kidding about there being a copper vein on the island.

Considering how you'll need money to invest in the copper vein, I'll just take these copper ingots at the initial 3,900 berries.

But that information of mine and sincerity will be on an IOU." Carnes phased through the counter shocking the old man.

The pat on his shoulder and the smile on his face seem twisted at this moment, "Don't worry much old man, I'll come back another if I ever do of course now count up my money,"

Carnes returned the copper ingot as the old man handed him 340,000 a hundred extra just to round it evenly.

Carnes quickly took out his cartographer map, zoomed in to the Peach town's island, place an empty piece of paper.

Making a copy of Peach town island as he quickly scribbled some route, "Alright old man at X marks the spot there is ground that is concave downwards.

The copper vein is there but you'll have to remove the dirt, and stones till you reach the copper vein."

Carnes placed the map onto the counter.

"Alright old man, remember the IOU." Carnes said as he phased his way through the shelves, items, and displays as he left the store.

His way of showing the blacksmith nothing gets in his way.

—-----------------------

Outside his store Carnes thought back to his actions in the store as he felt surprised with himself at how he handled it.

Back in his previous life, in games like the wolves and villagers, poker, and other games that required you to maintain a neutral face he was really bad at.

'Is this what having killed someone does to people.'

Carnes was walking through the market questioning whether his actions felt forceful, whether they were right.

He was looking to the right simply coincidentally, his eyes lined with a stall that was selling peaches.

They all looked plump and juicy but that's when he noticed a slight discoloration amongst all the peaches.

Getting closer, to identify the discoloration, a text box displayed showing him that it was a devil fruit.

'Sube Sube no Mi, isn't that Alvida's devil fruit? So someone must have eaten it between now and when it spawned on some random island in East Blue.'

"Young man, the peaches are 25 berries a piece," said the stall worker, a middle aged lady.

Carnes took out a bill of 1000 berries as he grabbed a random peach, and the devil fruit.

Eating the normal fruit, Carnes told the lady, "Keep the change, the Peaches are pretty good."

The middle age lady smiled sweetly as she thanked Carnes.

Carnes took the signs of randomly coming across a sign of the universe, 'That's right this ain't my previous world, pirate, marine, or revolutionary, no matter how you tie it, strength is what matters.'

'A life of luxury, you need strength to keep it and deter others away.'
