Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: The Ghost They Must Seek

Mitsuri had finally made up her mind—if demons could be eradicated once and for all, then they could live like this in peace forever.

That thought alone filled her with renewed energy.

"Yohan! Yohan! Yohan!" she chirped, bouncing toward him.

"So what's the plan now? Are we staying here, or heading out?"

She didn't actually care where they went. As long as she was with Yohan, she was happy. But she was still curious about what he intended to do next.

"Our next move, huh?" Yohan scratched his chin, lost in thought.

Now that she mentioned it, he suddenly remembered—they had originally rented a small place to stay when they first arrived in town. But they hadn't gone back since. They'd been living at the Demon Slayer estate all this time, freeloading food and shelter.

Originally, he'd been broke too. Now? He had a surprising amount of money tucked away.

Wait a second... so he'd fought a bunch of demons, and somehow ended up with a house and a bank account? Wasn't this the legendary combo of "home and fortune earned by fists"?

The money, in fact, had come from Kanae Kocho and her group. He vividly remembered mentioning during a conversation that he didn't have a single cent to his name. The very next day, someone showed up at his door with a hefty sum of cash, courtesy of Kanae.

At first, Yohan tried to refuse. What kind of man would accept money from a lady?

But then Shinobu casually revealed that her sister was the current master of the Butterfly Manor. For someone of her status, that amount of money was basically spare change.

After hearing that, Yohan accepted without another word.

After all, borrowing from a regular girl didn't sit right with him—but if it was a rich lady offering freely? Then that was totally different.

It wasn't just anyone's money—it was a wealthy, elegant lady's gift, offered willingly! If he turned it down, wouldn't that be disrespectful?

So now, Yohan had a modest little fortune.

The real question now was—where to go next?

To be honest, he didn't remember much about this world's geography. Most of his previous memories involved deep mountain forests and isolated areas. He didn't exactly have a map in his head. He only recalled a few major events and locations.

Wait. Hold on a second. That's it!

His eyes lit up.

If his final confrontation was going to be with Muzan Kibutsuji, then he needed to find someone very important first. A former subordinate of Muzan… now a fugitive...

Someone well-versed in medicine and demon research…

Tamayo!

Yes, that's who they needed to find next! Tamayo had broken free from Muzan's control and spent centuries seeking a way to destroy him completely. She wasn't just a vital ally—her story was deeply tragic.

With this revelation, Yohan's course of action became crystal clear.

"Mitsuri, our next target is a demon."

"A-A demon?" Mitsuri nearly leapt out of her boots, blinking wide-eyed in shock. "Wait, wait, wait—did you mean to say a person? You just said demon, right?!"

"Yes, I meant what I said." Yohan realized how misleading that must've sounded and quickly clarified.

"She's called Tamayo. She broke free from Muzan's curse and has been on the run ever since, dedicating her life to discovering a way to defeat him."

He then told Mitsuri everything he remembered about Tamayo—how she'd once been deceived by Muzan, turned into a demon, and in a state of uncontrollable madness, ended up killing her own husband and children. The pain and guilt of that event haunted her for centuries. In atonement, she wandered the world, seeking vengeance on Muzan and a way to destroy him for good.

Mitsuri's eyes welled with emotion.

"That's… so heartbreaking. Poor Miss Tamayo… After all that, she must be carrying such unbearable grief…"

For a tenderhearted girl like Mitsuri, Tamayo's story struck a deep chord.

"Let's go help her, Yohan! If she's been suffering for so long, we have to do something!"

In her heart, anything Yohan set out to do was bound to succeed—he was just that incredible.

"Of course," Yohan smiled. "That's exactly why I want to find her."

Now that their next destination was clear, there was no point lingering. The sooner they set off, the better.

But then Mitsuri tilted her head and asked, "Hey, Yohan. Didn't you say Tamayo's been on the run?"

"Right."

"So… do you know where she is?"

"She's obviously in…"

Yohan's words stalled mid-sentence. He suddenly realized—he didn't actually know where Tamayo was.

In his memories of the anime, it was Tanjiro who encountered her by chance in Asakusa while trying to save a man who had turned into a demon. Tamayo had been observing from the shadows and decided to reveal herself afterward.

But where exactly in Asakusa? He had no clue.

And more importantly—was she even in Asakusa yet? The timeline hadn't progressed that far, so for all he knew, Tamayo might still be hiding somewhere else.

He stared into the distance, momentarily dazed.

Mitsuri, of course, noticed immediately.

She burst into laughter, slapping her thigh. "Pffft—HAHAHAHA! Oh my god, Yohan! Don't tell me… you don't actually know where she is?!"

Her peals of laughter echoed off the walls. "You're seriously going to look for someone without knowing where she is?! HAHAHAHA!"

"Wh-Who said I don't know where she is?!" Yohan quickly put on a confident face. "She's in… Asakusa! That's right—we're going to Asakusa!"

He didn't care if it was a shot in the dark.

If Tanjiro could bump into Tamayo there, why couldn't he?

After all, he was the transmigrator here. The chosen one. The man with the golden cheat system and a destiny wrapped in cosmic luck.

If fate smiled on Tanjiro, then surely it'd be grinning ear to ear at him.
