Chapter 53 - Weekend (1)

After a long night, Dianne, Elena, and Pierre fell asleep in Pierre's office. Dianne and Elena are on a sofa, while Pierre is on his desk. After the three finished stabilizing the cybernetic arm, it was 5:00 AM They were exhausted, so Pierre suggested sleeping in his office. Elena and Dianne's blouses were unbuttoned, exposing slight cleavage, for comfortable sleep. Pierre's glasses were on his desk, but the watch, containing advanced tech, remained on his wrist. It was Dianne's first time to sleepover at the FRI. She slept close to Elena, her first colleague she met in the FRI. For Dianne, Elena was a charming, intellectual, and supportive friend. Elena knew Dianne's boundaries, and she knew how to treat Dianne. Elena's close relationship with Pierre made Dianne's day less lonely, and the way she teased Pierre also made Dianne see the other side of him. The side that made Dianne's mind excited.

It was the weekend. The three remained and drifted off from working throughout the night. It was 11:00 AM, sunlight brightened and stronger, shed into Pierre's office. Pierre woke up to the light. He wore his glasses, looked at his watch – 11:00 AM. He glanced over his office, saw Dianne and Elena sleeping on his sofa in front of his desk. Last night, after getting the chip, Dianne told us what to do to stabilize the cybernetic arm. Elena maintained the tissue structure and checked for compatibility. Pierre calibrates the sensors, thanks to her mechatronics, which create a foolproof instruction. Dianne adjusted her algorithm and integrated it into the quantum chip. Dianne's brain must have spent thousands of calories, her adrenaline was increased, and now back to her normal state. The surge of adrenaline will inevitably cause her to be exhausted after it's worn off. Elena as well. Perhaps, he should let the two recover more. He looked at his watch, which recorded his health status: Blood sugar 65%, Cortisol 20%, Dopamine 20%, … Testosterone 50%. All are at his standard level, except that his blood sugar was getting low. He must fill his stomach. Slowly, he stood up, making as little noise as possible. He did not want to disturb their peaceful time. He adjusted his shirt a little, the edge slipping over his trousers, then walked out to the canteen.

The canteen was empty on the weekend. No workers, chefs, etc. As the deputy director of FRI, he gained access to all facilities in this building. He checked the power supply in the kitchen – still on – and looked for ingredients. It was nearly lunch time. Their blood sugar must be at a low level by the time they woke up – expected time 1:00 PM – He has only two hours to prepare them lunch. He sat down on a chair in the kitchen after filling his stomach with a cup of cappuccino. The fatigue from last night still remained in his body, his brain function was much slower, even though the caffeine helped boost it already. He could barely think clearly, which made him annoyed. He looked at his watch, slid its screen – "Focus" – he pressed. The watch then showed his adenosine level dropped down from 50% to 10%. He started to move again to the storage, looking for ingredients. He brought out ingredients: Salmon, lemon, potatoes, etc. He prepared the salmon, seasoned it, then turn to potatoes, and prepare the sauce. His motion was like a pro-chef, no waste movement, everything precise and careful. He ordered some more ingredients from the supply units. A final ping, from his watch telling him that the potatoes are baked, nicely. He plated and decorated, and gave a final touch. They carry the tray of three plates back to his office.

It was 12:50PM, Elena and Dianne slowly opened her eyes. Sleepy, and exhaustion from last night still in their bodies. They looked at each other. Elena clumsy hair, unbuttoned and skewed blouse, Dianne – not much different from her. The two laughed at each other's clumsiness. They could barely move due to fatigue. Slowly, they stood up, stretched their bodies. Sleeping on the sofa, soft but not that comfortable, as on bed. Suddenly, a loud growl from both stomachs broke the silence in Pierre's office. The two blushed. They looked over the room, it was not much decorated: one desk with a desktop and Pierre's laptop, a sofa with bed extension, a small table, a coffee machine with a small counter nearby, no painting, only windows one facing the Baltic Sea and the other facing the living area. No sign of Pierre in the room. "He must be in the kitchen" Elena broke the silence calmly. "Let's freshen up ourselves, Dianne" Elena said and brought her to freshen up themselves. Dianne, still in drowsiness, followed Elena while thinking of how Elena knows Pierre is in the kitchen, and her expression looked much more familiar with the sleepover in Pierre's office.

Not too long after, the two came back, clothes tidied, but not fully buttoned – more comfortable. Pierre's waiting inside sat on the sofa, three plates were in front of him on a table. On the plate, a salmon with a yellowish sauce, baked potatoes. "Have a seat" he told Pierre and Elena to sit on the sofa. Elena sat next to Pierre, and Dianne sat next to Elena. Elena eyes' full of expectation, "What is it this time?" Elena asked, enthusiastic, This time? – Dianne curious. "Grilled salmon with Yuzu-lemon cream sauce, served with baked potatoes." Pierre explained his dish, as it is nothing to cook for his colleagues. "You made all of this?" Dianne asked, full of surprise. "You two must be very tired after a long night," he said. "This dish will give you a kickstart for the rest of your day" he continued. The three stomachs then screamed again, unable to resist the citrus fragrance from the yellowish sauce. They laughed. "Guten Appetit," the three said. "This is really good, Pierre," Elena smiled, excited after her first bite. "The salmon grilled really well, moist", "juiciness goes well with the tangy flavored sauce too" Elena added. "I like your carbonara but this dish is today's perfect kickstart." Elena talked full of happiness. Carbonara?, how close between the two – Dianne curiously grew. "Carbonara is fit for a more relaxed day, but this dish full of nutritions require for you two recoveries," Pierre said while forking his salmon. "The fish's protein is rich and not too dense as in land-animal, easier to digest." he continued. "The healthy fat from salmon also benefits the endocrine system, helping to balance your hormones", "The baked potatoes gave you an energy supply, suitable after your exhausted day" Pierre continued. Incredible – Dianne thought. He came up with everything, thought about us, and prepared every dish delicately. He said he was not tired or did not spend any energy last night. Dianne kept staring Pierre over Elena, her face blushing, heartbeat faster, some excitement, and hesitation building up in her body. "How is it, Dianne?" Pierre asked her, shook her out of blacked out. "Y..Yes" Dianne stammered. "It is really good, the taste, I feel much refreshed as you said." Dianne voices shyly. Hand off her fork, touch over her married ring. Her husband has not treated her like this before. "I am glad to hear that," Pierre smiled. Conversations go on. Dianne sometimes joined their conversations, expressing much more relaxation toward Pierre. They finished their plate. "Thank you for the food, Pierre, I am ready for the day." Elena said and Dianne too.
