The lights in the school canteen were bright, people buzzing all around and made a quiet noise. Shin Jaehyun felt a bit worried. He slowly mixed his warm coffee with a spoon. Across the busy room, where many students talked, sat Kang Dojoon.
Dojoon looked strong and still. He always stood straight, looked ahead, and seemed very serious. Jaehyun had watched him for weeks. He knew Dojoon always sat at the same table by the window, used a black book, and sometimes looked like he was thinking hard.
Most omegas at school liked the alphas who smiled a lot and laughed loud. But Jaehyun liked Dojoon's quiet strength and very good-looking. His dark hair often fell a little on his almond eyes. Even in the school uniform, he looked fantastic.
Jaehyun sighed. His sweet coffee didn't help much. His "gamble," the plan in his head, was harder than he thought. Just talking to Dojoon felt impossible. The alpha didn't talk much, only about school or saying hi quickly.
His friend, Minji, wasn't very hopeful. "Jaehyun, he hardly looks up from his books! Maybe try someone… less… alpha?" she said, looking worried. But Jaehyun didn't give up easy. He liked a hard thing to do. And something about Dojoon, the way he seemed to keep people away, made Jaehyun curious.
Today, Jaehyun's plan was to be near Dojoon. He sat at a table close to Dojoon's spot, pretending to read a book about ideas. It made him feel confused. He even marked some parts to look smart.
He looked up quietly. Dojoon was reading his book, writing with his pen. A light smell, Dojoon's alpha smell, was in the air. Jaehyun breathed it in quietly.
Jaehyun took a deep breath and did the next part. He "accidentally" dropped his pen. It rolled right to Dojoon's feet.
"Oh, sorry!" Jaehyun said, not too loud. He bent down, and their eyes met for a moment.
The alpha looked at the pen, then at Jaehyun. He didn't look mad or interested, just normal.
"Here," Dojoon said, his voice deeper than Jaehyun thought. He used his foot to push the pen closer.
"Thank you," Jaehyun said, his face a little warm as he picked it up. He waited for Dojoon to say more, but Dojoon was back to his book.
Too quiet, Jaehyun thought. Needs to be better.
Later, Jaehyun went to the book place. He "happened" to go to the same part about old stories that he heard Dojoon talk about once. He looked at the books until he saw Dojoon not far away.
Dojoon was by a tall shelf, looking closely at the books. Jaehyun took a breath and walked over, acting surprised.
"Oh, Kang Dojoon-sunbae! What a surprise to see you here," Jaehyun said, sounding friendly.
Dojoon turned. He still looked serious, but his eyes changed a little. "Shin Jaehyun-ssi," he said.
"Looking at old times?" Jaehyun asked with a small smile, pointing at the books.
"School work," Dojoon answered simply.
"Ah, I see," Jaehyun said, trying to keep talking. "It's a very interesting time. Are you looking at any special place?"
Dojoon waited a moment. "Mostly Rome."
"Interesting! I was just reading about their rules," Jaehyun said quickly, even though he wasn't. "They were very hard to understand."
Something changed a little on Dojoon's face. He looked a bit… interested? "Oh? What parts?"
Jaehyun took his chance. For a few minutes, they talked a little about Rome's rules. Dojoon seemed a little less closed off as he talked about his work. Jaehyun listened carefully, adding a few things he had quickly looked up.
As they finished talking, another student came to Dojoon and asked about school stuff. Dojoon looked at the student right away.
"It was… nice talking to you, Shin Jaehyun-ssi," Dojoon said politely but like it was the end.
"You too, sunbae," Jaehyun said, smiling a little. It wasn't a big win, but it was something. He got Dojoon to talk to him and share what he liked.
That night, Jaehyun thought about his plan in his room. He felt a little hopeful. The gambit was slow, but maybe it was working. Kang Dojoon, the alpha who seemed hard to get to know, had talked to him.
Jaehyun thought the next step would be to make Dojoon want to help him with school. He had seen Dojoon help other students. Maybe he could pretend to need help.
He smiled a little as he opened his book.
