Lama hissed.

Karzon's eyes flared. "Don't play the bureaucrat, Vaelthorn. You think we don't know what this is? This reeks of you. This isn't Lord Zavros."

Lux's smile sharpened. His shoulders squared. But he said no word.

And suddenly, the tension twisted. The air felt tight. Hot.

Karzon's furnace glow sputtered for half a second.

"Yeah. That's not how Lord Zavros does his business," Dravik muttered, nostrils flaring. "He doesn't send auditors. He doesn't cut budgets."

Lux raised a brow. "And what did you think I was doing?"

Lama's voice lowered, suspicious. "It feels like you're carving up our dominions from behind your desk. That you're not just balancing books."

Sira whispered, "True."

Lux ignored her. Mostly.

"Let me be clear," he said, hands clasping behind his back like he was leading a hostile board meeting. "I didn't come here for war. I came for a coffee run and possibly a late-night lap pillow. I'm on vacation."
