Chapter 280 - The First Day: First Team

The first was Marcus Reid, the lead first-team analyst. He was the same sharp, professional man who had been in my initial interview, the one who had been skeptical of a County League manager's ability to use data. He offered a firm handshake.

"Heard a lot about your work with the U18s, Danny. Interested to see your methods up close." His tone was neutral, but I could see a flicker of curiosity in his eyes.

The second man was older, with a kind, weathered face. "Kevin Bray," he said, his voice a low, reassuring rumble. "Set-piece coach. Been at this club longer than most of the furniture. Whatever you need, gaffer. Just tell me what you need."

He was a club man, loyal to the badge, not the manager. He'd seen them all come and go. I could work with that. In fact, I needed that.

Just as the introductions were finishing, the door opened again, and Gary Issott walked in, a wide, proud grin on his face. He was holding a small stack of plastic cards.
