Chapter 117 - Ch 117: Excalibur

"Kokabiel… this ends now!"

Rias's voice thundered across the battlefield, carrying not only anger but the full weight of her determination. Crimson power crackled around her, forming a storm of destruction at her fingertips. The air trembled, the ground groaned beneath the immense pressure, and even the clouds above seemed to recoil as her magic gathered into a colossal sphere of pure ruin.

The crimson mass swelled larger, pulsing with raw destructive energy.

Then—

BOOOOOM!

The gigantic blast roared from Rias's hand, a blinding comet of destruction that cut through the night sky. It wasn't just powerful—it was overwhelming, far beyond her normal strength. The crimson aura surged with fury, ten times bigger than her usual attack, tearing through the air with blistering speed as it rushed toward Kokabiel.

"It's huge!" someone shouted, their voice trembling with awe.

Rias's power of destruction slammed forward like judgment itself, the crimson meteor aiming to erase the Fallen Angel leader from existence.

High above, Kokabiel hovered with his black wings spread wide. The smirk never left his face. As the crimson inferno descended upon him, he didn't move, didn't flinch, didn't even bat an eye.

He merely raised one hand.

BAAAAAANG!!

The impact split the heavens. The shockwave rattled the ground, making the school field shake violently. Dust and wind blasted outward, forcing us to shield our faces. The night sky lit up as if the sun had exploded overhead.

But when the light cleared—

Kokabiel stood unscathed.

He was holding Rias's devastating attack back with a single hand. His palm smoked from the raw power, but his grin widened with twisted delight.

"Weak!" he sneered, thrusting his palm skyward.

The crimson meteor veered away violently, streaking upward before vanishing into the night with a hollow crackle.

Kokabiel's laughter echoed across the battlefield, dripping with malice. "Kukuku… Rias Gremory, your power has grown this much? So this is the influence of Sekiryuutei. How delightful. How utterly fascinating!"

He clenched his smoking hand, savoring the pain, as if it were proof of amusement rather than danger. His eyes gleamed with cruel interest, as though Rias's strength was nothing more than entertainment for him.

"…It's complete."

Valper's oily voice slithered into the silence.

At his words, all eyes turned toward the center of the field. The four Excaliburs, previously positioned in a cross-like formation, now radiated with dazzling brilliance. Blinding light surged from them, bathing the entire battlefield in divine luminance.

Kokabiel began to clap slowly, mockingly, his grin stretching unnaturally.

I felt something tug at my lips before I realized it. A smile. A dark, amused smile I hadn't even intended. The intensity of the moment, the insanity of what was happening—it drew it out of me.

I looked at the now formed Excalibur, a words, unconsciously, flow out. "My Excalibur."

"The four Excaliburs… they're going to become one."

The blades rose, levitating, and overlapped with one another. The divine aura they emitted grew unbearably bright, forcing us to raise our hands to shield our eyes. The air vibrated, the sound of a thousand hymns echoing faintly within the light.

When the radiance faded, only a single blade remained. A single holy sword, shimmering with a blue-white aura, pure and sharp enough to pierce the heavens.

Valper's smug voice followed. "Because of the fusion of Excalibur, the spell on the ground has also completed. The entire town will collapse within twenty minutes. Unless, of course…" He smiled like a man announcing a cruel game. "…you defeat Kokabiel."

At his words, the school field lit up. A vast magic circle spread across the ground, glowing ominously. The runes pulsed with energy, each second gathering more destructive power. The countdown to annihilation had begun.

Kokabiel pointed lazily at the newly fused Excalibur. "Valper, use that blade. Let it be our grand finale. The devils will fight against the strongest sword."

Valper bowed his head mockingly. "It would be my honor."

He grasped the holy blade with reverence, its light casting harsh shadows over his gaunt face.

Xenovia's eyes narrowed, her grip on her own sword tightening. She turned sharply to Kiba, her voice steady despite the danger.

"Rias Gremory's Knight," she called, her tone unwavering, "if our cooperation still stands, let us destroy that Excalibur together."

Kiba blinked, startled by her directness. "…Is that truly alright?"

Xenovia gave a fearless grin. "At worst, I can claim the fragment of Excalibur acting as its core. Since Valper wields it, it may bear the name of a holy sword—but it is not worthy of one. A blade is shaped by its wielder. And that, in his hands, is nothing more than a sword of heresy."

"Kukuku…"

Valper Galilei's twisted chuckle slithered across the battlefield, silencing even the crackling of the magic circle.

Kiba's voice was calm, but his eyes blazed with hatred as he addressed him. "Valper Galilei. I am a survivor of the Holy Sword Project. No… I am the one who was supposed to have been killed by you." His hand tightened around his sword. "I live now as a devil. And I have come for answers."

Valper's grin widened, his eyes glimmering with twisted delight.

"Oooh. A survivor of the project? In a remote Far Eastern land, no less. What a curious twist of fate. Fufufu…" His laugh was like oil dripping onto fire.

Kiba's gut twisted at the sound. Disgusting didn't even begin to describe it.

"You see," Valper continued, voice trembling with obsession, "I love holy swords. I adore them. They have haunted my dreams since I was a child. Their beauty, their legend, their divinity… and yet…" His grin faltered into a sneer. "I could never wield one. That despair broke me."

He spread his arms as though confessing to the heavens. "So I admired those who could wield them. Admiration turned to envy, envy into obsession, obsession into experiments. Experiments to create those who could wield them… through my hands, the project was born."

Kiba's eyes narrowed dangerously.

"What? You discarded us as failures the moment you deemed us useless."
