Subject: Status of Fort Frontier after the second Chinsonite attack
To Her Majesty the Queen,
With Commander Armand's return to the capital, our forces currently face a deficit of nearly a quarter of their capacity, a result of the casualties sustained during the recent Chinsonite attack. Fortunately, a large number of the wounded have recovered, thanks in large part to the Archmage's tireless work.
It should be noted that Master Dyan left the fort's protection crystal almost fully repaired and activated it in emergency mode from the very beginning of the attack, which allowed the surviving mages to return to Scabia Tower just two days after his own departure with the Archmage.
In recent weeks, no new enemy incursions have been sighted. Our scouts report a clear decrease in skirmishes in the area, although rumors brought by merchants traveling the frontier point to worrying movements in the far north. I consider it necessary to pay attention to these reports.
I understand that requesting reinforcements to fill vacant positions may be excessive at this time, but their absence is felt. While Master Dyan's display of power has provided us with valuable respite—one that, under normal circumstances, could have lasted the entire season—I cannot guarantee that this calm will be sustained without additional support.
As for the remains recovered from the battlefield, five wagons loaded with steel—the only material of value not reduced to ashes—have been sent with Commander Armand. Identification tags of our martyrs were also sent for their official ceremony and delivery to their respective families. The bodies have been buried here, at Fort Frontier, with full honors. I considered sending them back, but the journey and current weather would have made the transfer an unnecessarily painful experience for the bereaved.
The garrison's morale remains high. Most are confident that, if the situation warrants it, Master Dyan will return to defend us again. However—if you'll allow me an indiscretion—I witnessed a discussion between the Commander and Master Dyan that makes me doubt he will be willing to return easily. With all due respect, Your Majesty, if I may offer a recommendation: keeping him close is, in my opinion, vital to the welfare of the kingdom. His destructive power, clearly superior to that of any other mage I have seen in service, should not be underestimated or wasted. We face uncertain times, and we are not in a position to do without a resource like him.
It is not my intention to tell you how to act. I am only conveying the opinion of a captain who finds himself, like many, in a difficult position.
At your service, with eternal loyalty,
Sir Coltan Leovar
Provisional Commander of Fort Frontier
