Sylvia was perched beside him, smiling with cold victory, while his cheek was still clamped between her delicate teeth. Her other hand was extended toward his hair, gently stroking his messy locks with a calmness that utterly contradicted her barbaric act.
"Agh! Sylvia!" Kim grumbled, gently pushing her face away with his hand. "You always target my cheek! Why do you keep biting it like that?"
Sylvia retreated, wiping her lips with the tip of her finger and letting out a light, bell-like laugh. Her beautiful blue eyes sparkled with amusement.
"Because it's my own sweet treat, of course," Sylvia said flirtatiously, ignoring his annoyance. "I can't resist a little sugar in the morning."
Kim sat up in bed, massaging his cheek with his fingers. The flush caused by the sudden kiss had now subsided, replaced by some redness from the bite.
"This isn't the time for jokes," Kim said with mock sternness as he headed for the bathroom. "We're already late, and it seems something is happening outside. I need to get ready."
Kim went straight into the bathroom and began washing his face with cold, refreshing water to remove the last traces of sleepiness. Then he grabbed his toothbrush and began brushing his teeth vigorously.
Only seconds passed before he heard the door slide open.
"The quiet morning seems to have gone down the drain," Sylvia commented as she entered the bathroom, her long blonde hair falling and her bright blue eyes shining.
She stood beside him at the sink, picking up her own toothbrush. Sylvia began brushing her teeth in silence.
The activity in the bathroom was simple yet intimate; the sound of running water, the friction of the toothbrushes, and the harmony of their movements reflected in a single mirror. Kim felt a warmth wash over him despite the tense situation that had awakened them; her presence beside him always had a calming effect.
Kim finished brushing his teeth before she did. He rinsed his mouth, dried his face with a towel, and then turned to her.
"I'll get dressed. Don't be late."
Sylvia didn't reply but nodded, keeping her eyes closed to continue brushing. Her golden hair flowed around her slender shoulders.
Kim left the bathroom and headed to his wardrobe. He quickly put on their school uniform—a white shirt, a dark blue collar, and a matching tie. The uniform looked sharp on him, lending him an appearance that combined seriousness with charisma.
Once ready, Kim decided to head to the kitchen.
He went to the fridge to see what he could cook.
Kim went to the fridge to see what he could cook.
"Something fast and nutritious," he thought, scanning the contents. He immediately recalled the method he learned for preparing Japanese rolled omelets (Tamagoyaki); it's quick, delicious, and would give them enough energy for a potentially turbulent morning.
He took out eggs and some pre-cut vegetables, starting to mix the ingredients with an practiced swiftness. Soon after, the kitchen was filled with the aroma of bread and perfectly cooked eggs.
Kim glanced at the clock hanging above the stove. It was exactly seven o'clock. Time was flying alarmingly fast, confirming that delays were no longer an option.
As soon as the omelets were cooked, Kim arranged the dish on the table along with two slices of toast and two hot cups of tea. He didn't wait long; a minute later, Sylvia emerged from the bathroom, also impeccably dressed in her school uniform.
"That looks delicious," Sylvia said, sitting at her seat and picking up one of the egg rolls.
"Eat quickly," Kim replied, starting his meal. "We don't have the luxury of delay today."
They didn't talk much while eating, as finishing the meal was the priority. The omelets were light and delicious, and the meal passed in a comfortable silence interrupted only by the sounds of chewing.
When they finished, Kim quickly washed the dishes with uncharacteristic speed.
"Let's go."
Kim and Sylvia left the apartment. The walk to the school wasn't long. They walked side by side. Sylvia looked around curiously, while Kim was lost in his thoughts.
When they reached the school gate, students were still pouring in. As usual, Kim drew everyone's attention with his black hair and striking appearance, but Sylvia's presence beside him sparked whispers and hushed comments among the groups.
Kim completely ignored the looks and headed straight for the classroom.
Once inside, Kim and Sylvia took their usual seats. The room was still largely empty, save for a few early arrivals. The rest of the students began filtering in shortly after, bringing with them the usual morning noise and chatter about what had happened outside.
In the meantime, the teacher, "Kon", entered the classroom. As always, he was dressed in highly revealing attire.
Teacher Kon's eyes looked directly at Kim, establishing a quick, silent, yet obvious look of mutual hostility. Kim didn't dwell on it; he decided to ignore the teacher's look, deeming that he had more important things to deal with today.
Teacher Kon stopped in front of the desk, raising his small fist to command attention.
The teacher rapped the desk three times.
"Alright, students," he said in his sharp voice that cut through the room's noise, "it is time for class."
Teacher Kon completely ignored the whispers and chatter circulating among the students, then focused his eyes initially on Kim with a fleeting look of patent hostility, before turning to the whiteboard.
"Before we start today's lesson, I have an important announcement for all of you." The teacher raised his head, an artificial smile—which didn't reach his eyes—spread across his face. "In five days, there will be an exam on the first lecture we gave yesterday. Therefore, I believe you all remember everything from the lecture... you can consider this a free twenty marks."
Some students sighed in relief, while others grumbled.
"This exam," the teacher continued in an absolute tone, "is worth twenty marks of the total grade. Therefore, everyone must prepare well, especially those who did not attend that class."
At that moment, Sylvia suddenly rose from her seat. Her blonde hair swung with her quick movement, and her beautiful blue eyes flared with indignation on Kim's behalf.
"What?!" Sylvia said loudly, drawing the attention of all the students. "You cannot do that!"
Teacher Kon fixed her with a cold stare that didn't change his expression. "Miss Sylvia, sit down. Do not interrupt the lesson."
"No, I won't sit down!" Sylvia insisted. "You know you kicked Kim out of the last class due to a personal issue with you! And now he is missing an entire lecture and twenty marks!"
The entire class fell silent. Everyone looked between Sylvia, Kim, and Teacher Kon, anticipating the reaction.
"How can you deduct twenty full marks from a student's total grade due to an absence you caused yourself? That is unfair!" Sylvia added, her fists tightly clenched.
In the adjacent seat, Kim looked at Sylvia. Her agitation was sincere and touching, showing how much she cared for him and how angered she was by the injustice. A faint, warm, and grateful smile flickered across Kim's face.
He looked at her, then gently waved his hand, urging her to calm down.
"Sylvia, sit down. It's okay."
"You messed with the wrong person," Kim thought internally before resting his face on his hand and looking at the teacher with a smirk.
