Chapter 115 - 559

"What?! How come it's you, Detective Senichi!?"

When Yumi Miyamoto saw the person in the driver's seat, she couldn't help but exclaim.

"Detective Senichi, what exactly happened earlier?"

The look of astonishment faded, and Yumi Miyamoto's expression immediately turned serious as she looked at Senichi and asked earnestly, "Who was that person chasing you? Is it an enemy?"

From her understanding of Senichi, he couldn't possibly be someone who would abuse power, let alone engage in such arrogant and domineering behavior as racing on the road.

And since he took such action, it meant there was something or some reason that caused Senichi to break traffic rules and race on the road.

Her speculation was not unreasonable; after all, Senichi was a "famous police detective" and had solved many cases. It wasn't impossible to offend someone in one of those cases.

"Well... not exactly an enemy," Senichi chuckled. "Just encountered someone following me."

"Following!?"

Yumi Miyamoto's voice unintentionally rose a few notches upon hearing Senichi's words. Then, with a strange look on her face, she looked at Senichi and said, "You call that 'following'? I'd believe it if you said they wanted to ram into you directly with that driving..."

"Well, some things are better left unsaid," Senichi shook his head. "Let's leave it at that. Try to calm things down and handle it discreetly."

"We can't do that. That person following you hasn't been caught yet," Yumi Miyamoto raised an eyebrow with a serious expression.

"I'm offering advice under the circumstance that you can't catch him," Senichi looked at the stunned Yumi Miyamoto. "You don't think he can't catch up to me just because his driving skills aren't up to par, do you?"

"Um..."

Thinking back to their previous chase, Yumi Miyamoto couldn't help but twitch the corner of her mouth. "I forgot about that. Even if that guy can't outrun you, it should be a piece of cake for him to shake off the people from our department..."

"So, listen to me, calm down the situation, and forget about the arrest," Senichi shrugged.

"Are you sure?" Yumi Miyamoto looked at Senichi with a serious yet concerned expression. "If needed, we could use this opportunity to issue a warrant."

"No need," Senichi waved his hand and smiled. "Just trust me, and don't worry about my safety. I know his motives and it has nothing to do with me; he just wants to find out something."

"Well, since you insist," Yumi Miyamoto nodded somewhat helplessly upon hearing Senichi's words.

There was nothing she could do. She really wanted to arrest the guy who was racing, but firstly, they couldn't catch him, and secondly, Senichi wasn't willing to cooperate, so naturally, there was no way to proceed.

After all, in terms of official position, Senichi outranked her, and even if his superior came, it would be difficult for them to make Senichi cooperate. His influence wasn't determined by his official position.

So, with Senichi clearly not willing to say more, they naturally had no choice but to handle the matter with cold treatment since they couldn't catch the person.

"Well then, thank you for your understanding. I'll inform the higher-ups about this matter," Senichi said as he rolled up the window. "I have other matters to attend to, so I'll take my leave."

With that, he waved to Yumi Miyamoto before the window closed and bid her farewell.

Afterward, he made a call to Haruka, informing her to handle the aftermath, and then drove off towards Professor Agasa's house with the two.

"Hmph, such a persistent guy."

After the matter settled, Haibara, who had been silent and cold-faced in the car, snorted, "He's a bit too much. I really don't understand what my sister sees in him."

"Well... Haibara, don't be too biased," Conan, hearing Haibara's displeased tone, couldn't help but console, "Look at it from another perspective, your brother-in-law..."

"Hmm?"

"Cough cough..." Under Haibara's chilling gaze, Conan quickly corrected himself, "No, I mean, he still cares a lot about your sister. Look at how hard he's trying to find her."

"Hmph, I think he has ulterior motives." Haibara's face was full of displeasure. "He's been deceiving my sister since the days in the organization, not even revealing his true name. A man like that isn't worth trusting!"

These hostile words left Conan somewhat helpless. He had wanted to comfort her since he believed that they would eventually have to interact in the future. Haibara's clear prejudice wasn't very advisable, so he had wanted to console her.

But he didn't expect her to be so hostile, directly ignoring his words, leaving him with no choice but to give up.

Meanwhile, Senichi, who was driving and witnessing everything, just smiled and remained silent, not getting involved at all.

Conan is still naive, completely missing the point of the matter.

Haibara was infuriated by Shuichi Akai's behavior because the more persistent he was, the more it highlighted her sister's importance in his heart.

This blatant "showing off affection" behavior naturally angered Haibara, who didn't want her sister to be taken away.

If he had shown an indifferent attitude, Haibara might have put on a smiley face.

It was precisely because Haibara could see the determination in the his actions that she was angry.

Perhaps those with sisters could understand Haibara's current feelings. The feeling of having her sister taken away was magnified countless times in Haibara's heart.

There's nothing she could do. After all, an older sister is like a mother. Having no parents since childhood, she naturally valued her sister very much.

Normally, if her sister were in a relationship, even if she felt uncomfortable, she might still offer her blessings and eventually things might get better.

But Shuichi Akai and her sister were obviously not in a "normal" relationship. They didn't even know the real name of the boyfriend.

This became an excuse, directly triggering Haibara's discomfort, causing her emotions to erupt, making her feel annoyed no matter how she looked at the other person.

Conan explaining the meaning behind the other's actions to her now would only add fuel to the fire for Haibara.

So, the three arrived at Professor Agasa's garage in this somewhat peculiar atmosphere.

"You're back? So, did you see Dai-kun?" Akemi Miyano, who was opening the garage door for Senichi, immediately went up to them after seeing the three get out of the car. However, the words she said made Haibara's face darken involuntarily.

"Hmph, that guy was clearly discovered, yet he shamelessly refused to leave," Haibara said coldly. "In the end, it was Detective Senichi who raced away from him."

"Oh, really..." Akemi Miyano didn't seem to notice the dissatisfaction in Haibara's previous words, or perhaps her attention was focused on Shuichi Akai's persistent pursuit at the moment.

Seeing her sister's absent-mindedness, Haibara's expression grew even darker.
