A young man stood with his back to them, wielding a massive axe, motionless, his presence chilling in the eerie silence.
"Just watch; don't interfere," Shinoa Hīragi warned Aoki. "The vampire extermination unit will rescue him."
The young man was Yūji, the one Yamanaka Satoshi had mentioned entering the Forbidden Zone. He'd likely been mind-controlled by the demon inhabiting the axe.
Interfering could have disastrous consequences.
But Aoki didn't care. Since arriving in this world, he'd maintained an air of supreme self-confidence.
He hadn't encountered a worthy opponent yet. Guren Ichinose was his superior, so he wouldn't fight him. The Forbidden Zone had become a source of amusement.
Ignoring Shinoa Hīragi's warning, Aoki leaped down, landing gracefully despite the several-meter drop.
"Hey! What the hell?!" Shinoa Hīragi, seeing Aoki ignore her, was frantic. Aoki was without Cursed Gear, making a fight against the demon-possessed Yūji extremely difficult.
But then she remembered Aoki defeating her without Cursed Gear. Perhaps he could contend with the demon.
Charging towards the demon-possessed Yūji, Aoki tossed several kunai.
Black energy pulsed from the axe's surface as Yūji effortlessly deflected them with a swing.
"Don't touch Cursed Gear with your bare hands! You'll be consumed by the demon! Though I don't know if you can resist demonic possession," Shinoa Hīragi shouted from above.
Aoki ignored her warning and increased his speed.
Yūji swung the axe, but Aoki slid under it, grabbing the axe handle's end and kicking Yūji away, seizing the axe.
"It's so easy…" Aoki started to boast to Shinoa Hīragi, but the axe vanished, and the surroundings changed.
"Aoki-senpai." A familiar voice called out. Aoki turned to see Tanjiro Kamado smiling. "Aoki-senpai, you're back! You won't leave again, right?"
Tanjiro Kamado shouldn't have been here.
Then Nezuko Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira, and his other Demon Slayer comrades appeared.
Finally, Shinobu Kocho, the woman he'd longed for this past month, appeared.
She took his hand, her voice gentle. "Aoki-kun, we'll always be together."
Aoki stood motionless.
An unprecedented aura erupted from him, startling Shinobu Kocho. "Aoki-kun, what's wrong? Are you unwell?"
He pushed Shinobu Kocho away. His eyes transformed into three-tomoe Sharingan, his face contorted in furious anger. "Damn it! Using this illusion to deceive me… you've crossed a line, demon!"
His Sharingan evolved into Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, emitting blinding light, causing the world to violently shake and crumble.
The next moment, Aoki was back in reality, dropping the axe, a few beads of sweat trickling down his forehead.
Shinoa Hīragi arrived, having sensed something was wrong when Aoki touched the axe. Her worry was unnecessary.
Aoki's Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan rendered the illusion useless, unless it was something like Kotoamatsukami or Infinite Tsukuyomi.
"You're back." Seeing Aoki emerge from the illusion, Shinoa Hīragi was stunned.
Breaking the illusion with his own power wasn't unusual, but Aoki did it in less than two breaths. Even experienced individuals would struggle to achieve that speed.
The only logical explanation was that the demon within Aoki's Cursed Gear was far stronger than the one in the axe, allowing him to break the illusion so quickly.
"Amazing… no wonder the Lieutenant Colonel chose him," Shinoa Hīragi murmured, approaching Aoki. "Are you okay?
Breaking the demon's illusion that fast… your strength is incredible! You're probably as strong as the members of Guren Squad."
Aoki was still recovering. The illusion had depicted his deepest desire, making its destruction somewhat unsettling.
"Aoki?" Shinoa Hīragi waved her hand in front of his face, snapping him out of it.
"I'm fine. The illusion was tempting, but breaking it was child's play," Aoki said, turning to leave the Forbidden Zone. "Nothing else to do here. That guy's saved. I'm going."
Shinoa Hīragi didn't stop him, simply reminding him, "Starting tomorrow, you'll report to the school that trains vampire extermination unit members."
"Okay." Aoki left the Forbidden Zone.
Shinoa Hīragi watched him go, a new expression in her eyes. Then, she looked at the unconscious Yūji.
"What a strange guy. He cares about ordinary people like that, yet acts indifferent. He possesses a gentler heart than anyone, yet maintains a rebellious, unrestrained demeanor."
"Seriously, he's as annoying as that troublesome Yūichirō Hyakuya."
