Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Rivals & Rumors

Enter a new trio — classmates who are bitter about the Hoshinos' celebrity:

Kuroda Daiki – Star actor in school, in a way threatened by Aqua.Sasaki Mei – The idol club president prior to Ruby moving in.Yamada Kenji – Believes Souta is "a fake" and aims to expose him.

But something weird happens.

Souta doesn't fight them.

He listens. Smiles. Offers snacks. Kenji is invited into the occult club.

Eventually Kenji blurts out:

"Why are you so nice?!"

Souta pauses. Looks down.

"Because… I was so cold, before. And now I have a family who showed me love.I want to share that warmth. Even if it burns a little."

The school ultimately grants Happy permission to host a talk.

He teaches philosophy.

Yes — a teddy bear is instructing in philosophy.

Title of the lesson:"How to Be Loved When You Believe You Are Unlovable."

Students expect a meme. They exit the classroom in tears.

The festival is coming up.

Each class submits a theme.Haunted House Café gets the vote from Souta's class.

They request that he "make it cool with his powers."

Souta hesitates. Then says:

"Only once we create it together. I'm finished making worlds by myself."

They work for weeks.

It turns into a schoolwide legend — the deepest, prettiest haunted house ever created, mixing illusion, emotion, storytelling.

As it opens, one guest is already crying.

"That wasn't scary… it was like passing through someone's heart."

One classmate — shy, klutzy, and sweet — confides in Souta.

Her name is Mizuno Hana.

"I know you're different. And powerful. But I do think … I like seeing you smile when you talk about your family."

Souta panics.

Happy: "Souta.exe has stopped working."

He turns her down gently.

"I… still have to love myself first before I can love someone else."

But they become best friends. And the class starts to take him in — not magically, but peer-wise.

A quiet, emotional chapter.

The triplets are lying under the stars at a school trip, reflecting.

Ruby: "You ever get the feeling … we're too different to belong?"

Aqua: "Yes. But sometimes different is just another way to say 'needed.' "

Souta: "I thought you had to deserve love. But now … I think love is something you work on."

Happy: "And you've all achieved something extraordinary."
