Chapter 144 - Anonymous Tokens of Affection

I couldn't focus on the financial reports in front of me. The numbers blurred together as my mind drifted back to Rhys's unexpected visit three nights ago. His confession. His promise to wait. The gentle touch on my cheek that I could still feel if I closed my eyes.

With a frustrated sigh, I pushed away from my desk and paced across my office. The Storm Crest Pack headquarters hummed with activity outside my door, but inside this room, I was trapped in my own emotional whirlwind.

My phone buzzed. Gideon.

"Hey," I answered, grateful for the distraction. "Please tell me you're calling with some work crisis that requires my immediate attention."

Gideon chuckled. "Sorry to disappoint, but operations are running smoothly. I'm actually calling to check on you. You've been distracted since that night."

I sank back into my chair. Gideon had become not just my colleague but a true friend over the years. He was one of the few people who knew about my history with Rhys.
