Kimi jerked away from Kolton like she had been burned by fire.
Her eyes darted toward the study entrance, realizing with horror that the door stood wide open. She had been so focused on reaching the ancient tome that she never heard his footsteps approaching.
"I was just looking for something to read," she stammered.
The excuse sounded pathetic even to her own ears. Heat flooded her cheeks as she watched Kolton's lips curve into that infuriating smirk she knew too well.
Kolton had returned to the pack house only to retrieve important documents when the household staff mentioned Kimi's unexpected visit. His heart had jumped at the news. Perhaps she had finally come to see him, to bridge the growing distance between them. But discovering her attempting to steal from his private collection told a different story entirely.
"Let me see what caught your attention so completely," he said, his voice carrying a dangerous edge.
