The memory surfaced unbidden in Kimi's mind. Kirk's voice echoed with stern disapproval as he warned her about restraining herself. Her fire abilities frightened people, he had said. The fierce side of her nature was something others couldn't tolerate. Most would see her as dangerous, even evil. She should only unleash that power when absolutely necessary.
Yet here stood Kolton, calling that same terrifying aspect of herself beautiful.
She let out a sharp laugh. "How ridiculous. You're saying something horrible looks pretty? You must be making fun of me."
His brow furrowed deeply. "You believe you look horrible? Who convinced you of such nonsense?"
"The person I trusted above all others," she answered, her gaze hardening.
Shadows darkened Kolton's expression. His mouth tightened as understanding dawned. The urge to eliminate the man who had planted such destructive thoughts in her mind surged through him. How dare anyone make her feel ashamed of her power?
