Jan Mayen Island, Northern Norway.
Amidst the snow, the Avengers arrived at this small island, which, apart from a meteorological station and a navigation station, was only inhabited by polar bears. Aside from Human Torch, Thing, and Hulk, everyone was bundled up tightly.
"Hahahahaha, take this, Benjamin!"
"You can't hit me, big guy!"
The two heaviest heroes in the world, Hulk and Thing, were fighting—or rather, playing—on this island of less than four hundred square kilometers. In this uninhabited area, their tussle was, at most, a way to stay warm, and they didn't have to worry about anyone getting hurt—the only ones who might get hurt were the polar bears.
"Peter must be so jealous that we get to come to the Arctic to play." Janet said, wrapped in a thick down jacket. The weather today was quite nice for the Arctic; there was no massive blizzard, but a clear, sunny day. The sky was clear, everything was beautiful, and there were polar bears in the distance that didn't look very intimidating.
And then there was her boyfriend, who was studying polar bear feces.
Janet's cheerful expression instantly dropped.
"I just don't understand why Hank has to connect everything to science. If I were brave enough to try and pet a polar bear, I might, but polar bear feces? Gross..."
"Sometimes you have to be patient with them, Jan." Standing next to her was Invisible Woman, Susan, who was also wearing a thick down jacket over her suit. "That's just how these boys are. If they're not in their lab for a minute, they get antsy. They always have to find something to study to distract themselves."
Janet shrugged, a little helpless, then asked curiously, "You all came out for this, so what about the kids? Franklin is only two, right? And little Val was just born. Do you have someone you trust to take care of them?"
"Doom is watching the kids for us."
Susan's words left Janet completely stunned. She looked at Susan in disbelief, and after a long hesitation, she couldn't help but ask, "Victor von Doom? Isn't he a bad guy?"
"He was, when he was in America. He's much better now... or maybe not." Susan couldn't quite explain the situation with Doom, so she gave a rough summary. "How do I put this? Doom used to believe he was the only one qualified to lead the world, so he did a bunch of things to try and conquer it..."
Janet nodded as if she understood. "And now he's seen the light?"
"No. He said he's realized that the world isn't worthy of his leadership yet, so he went back to his home country of Latveria, with the plan to make it the most powerful country in the world. He's waiting for the world to realize he's the one who's qualified to lead them, and then they'll accept his leadership."
Isn't he still a psychopathic villain?!
"But our relationship has definitely improved. He's the one who named Valeria, and he's also her godfather. So I think it should be fine to leave her with him..."
Janet looked at Susan, speechless. She couldn't understand the relationship between the Fantastic Four and Doom, and the more she thought about it, the weirder it got, so she just gave up.
In the distance, Tony, who was waiting for the S.H.I.E.L.D. submarine, wasn't wearing a thick jacket. Ever since the Battle of New York, he had been locked inside his armor almost all the time. He had just opened his faceplate and was teasing the Captain. "Did you miss this place, Cap? The bunk you slept in for nearly seventy years isn't far from here."
"Hard to say. I don't really remember much." Captain America said, looking up at the old aircraft carrier that was flying towards them. "Fury's here."
At this moment, on the Helicarrier.
"We've arrived, Coulson. Has the destruction protocol been initiated? Good. The Spider-Man blood samples need to be destroyed immediately. Everyone witnessed the destruction? Excellent." After giving Coulson instructions to destroy the Spider-Man blood samples through his headset, Fury guided the Helicarrier to slowly descend into the water. The new Helicarrier that Stark had designed for Project Insight wasn't in use yet, so Fury was still using the old one.
Of course, this wasn't the same S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier that Hawkeye had single-handedly taken down. That old thing had been completely scrapped long ago and was probably lying in some dock somewhere.
"Clint, how are our amazing friends doing?"
"Enthusiastic. You can't find a hotter man on Earth than that kid." Hawkeye shrugged helplessly, then asked with a hint of concern, "Is this really a good idea, though?"
"What do you mean, Agent Barton?"
"Bringing a human sun to an ice-bound evil god isn't a good idea, sir."
Hawkeye reminded him, "Maybe we're bringing him because the enemy is afraid of fire, but that doesn't mean the enemy doesn't want to thaw out."
"That's why I have them on standby. Get the Helicarrier ready to dock."
This was a trap. Not just Spider-Man, but Nick Fury had also come to the same conclusion: this was a conspiracy by the symbiotes, with the goal of reviving the symbiote god. After communicating with Peter, Nick Fury had assembled the smartest minds on Earth: Reed Richards, Tony Stark, Hank Pym, and Bruce Banner, who was currently the Hulk. He hoped they could find a way to permanently imprison the symbiote dragon.
Since Jan Mayen Island didn't have a pier for a large aircraft carrier, it took a lot of effort to dock. After a good amount of work, Nick Fury finally got it stabilized and was ready to welcome the scientists.
"I hope you've already located our target, Fury."
"I have, Dr. Richards. That's why I've gathered you all here."
Fury said, bringing up an analysis image on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. "Based on the analysis, the symbiote is located 200 meters below the glacier, in the permafrost. So I need the Avengers to help break through the ice."
Tony nodded matter-of-factly and added, "So you get to do nothing while we help you drag the thing out, and then S.H.I.E.L.D. can take over everything? That's a pretty easy job you've got there, Fury."
"I've got the most difficult job, Stark, and none of you can do it, so stop your complaining."
"What's the most difficult job? Let's hear it!"
Nick Fury looked at Stark with his one eye and smiled.
"Dealing with the protesting environmental groups."
