Chapter 199 - Chapter 199: The Last Wednesday of October

It was actually quite unexpected that the signal sent from the symbiote had no real meaning.

On the symbiote's home planet, Klyntar, the symbiotes communicated using bio-electricity and released electromagnetic waves, forming a unique language logic and structure. Although Peter didn't understand it at all, as a symbiote, Venom could receive this signal. The signal didn't mean anything in particular; it just told other symbiotes its location. It was essentially like sharing a location.

"Sounds like they were intentionally making noise on a public channel to provide cover for Riot, who got away—but where did Riot go?"

[I don't know he didn't send a location.]

After a pause, Venom added, [That guy is very scary probably the scariest of all of them.]

"I'll be careful. The symbiotes' weaknesses are obvious, so they won't have a chance to do anything."

After saying words that Venom didn't know whether to be happy or sad about, Peter landed near Midtown High School. He found a corner, took off his symbiote suit, and fixed his hair and collar before walking toward the school entrance.

Wednesday was an annoying day. It was in the middle of the workweek, with a late night the day before and another day of work to come. Peter was no exception. Today, he had a Detective Club meeting, which would take up his time as Spider-Man.

"Hey, Peter, good morning." Gwen approached him as if they hadn't seen each other in a long time. She looked at Peter with curiosity and asked, "Are you free after school this afternoon? There's something I want to talk to you about..."

"Huh? Sure." Peter shrugged indifferently, then smiled. "I can always make some time."

"Great... Just us? We could get a burger or something?"

"Okay."

Peter looked at Gwen with a hint of confusion and frowned. It seemed like this was the first time Gwen had been so mysterious. Was it something important? Peter shook his head and walked into the classroom. Harry and Amadeus were talking in the hallway. When Peter arrived, the two of them walked over mysteriously. Harry looked around and asked in a low voice, "Hey, Peter, I heard the Avengers have disappeared. Is it true?"

"They haven't disappeared. It's not that dramatic. They're just on a mission and will be back by tomorrow afternoon."

Peter rolled his eyes at the two of them for spouting nonsense and shrugged helplessly, but Harry got excited. "In other words, until tomorrow, Spider-Man is the only superhero in all of New York?!"

Don't you guys consider the Defenders heroes, too! Peter complained in his head, then shook his head and rejected Harry's suggestion. "Sorry, I have a date with Gwen tonight, so I might have to put off Spider-Man's duties for now."

Harry was a little dejected when he heard this, but the young man quickly got over it.

And then Peter immediately told him something else that would make him dejected.

"Harry, do you know about Doctor Otto Octavius?"

"My dad's old friend and his business partner. He passed away a few years ago. Why?"

"It's complicated, but in short, he's alive."

After Peter said this, Harry's expression changed because he knew very well what was behind those words—the only one who could do something like this was his father, Norman Osborn.

Peter then told him the full story Doctor Octopus had told him, but he didn't forget to warn him. After all, it was only Doctor Octopus's side of the story, and he couldn't believe all of it. However, if Doctor Octopus was so sure that this was the case, there must be a reason. It couldn't all be fake. Therefore, Peter asked Harry to help him investigate the matter.

Harry listened to all of this with clenched fists. He had known for a long time what a jerk his father was, but he never thought he could be this big of a jerk. Helplessly, Harry sighed and told Peter.

"I'll try, Peter, but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to find out."

"It's okay, Harry. If anything, I'm the one putting you in a difficult position by asking you to look into this stuff."

After consoling his friend whose father was a bad person, Peter went back to his long and boring day. After school, the Detective Club's meeting once again brought up the topic of going to Kraven's manor, which Harry had mentioned before.

But this time, it was Harry himself who objected. One reason was that he needed to investigate the matter Peter had told him about, and the other was that Liz's father, Adrian, was still sick in the hospital, and he wanted to stay and be with his girlfriend.

Felicia, who didn't know the whole story, looked at Peter with a hint of surprise, then smiled and just said she was disappointed. Peter gave her a look of disdain. You've already confirmed that Kraven's manor is safe, so what's with the fake disappointment?

Felicia didn't care about Peter's look. The Detective Club went on as usual with some deduction games. When they were finished, Felicia came to collect everyone's answers, and Peter accidentally received a note when he handed his in.

Felicia wanted to talk to Peter after school.

But I already have plans after school...

Peter mumbled as he took out his phone and secretly asked if it was something very important, but the answer he got was quite frustrating:

Maybe, maybe not.

What's with all the waffling? Peter sighed and just said he had some things to do this afternoon and hoped it was something important.

This time, Felicia gave him a very definite answer. It was about evidence of Kingpin's crimes. However, it wasn't very urgent, and he could send her a text after he was done with his business.

Fisk's crimes... Fisk has been enjoying the high life on Ryker's Island since he turned himself in. Your evidence would at most just put him away for a few more years. It's not enough to take him down for good.

I have to solve the Fisk problem once and for all.

Of course, I'm not talking about killing him.

"The most direct solution is to make the entire city of New York give up on Fisk and tell him that his empire has abandoned him, but what if that doesn't work?"

Should I break his legs?

Peter rubbed his temples and felt that something was wrong with him. He was becoming more and more irritable. He sighed and left the Detective Club's room, finding Gwen waiting for him at the door of the activity room.

"Hey, Gwen, I was just about to go look for you at your rehearsal room."

"I took the day off. I'm not going to rehearsal today."

Gwen said with a hint of helplessness, looking at Cindy, who was following her silently. "Well... shall we go?"
