If you were to ask any person on Earth who the world's strongest hero is, you would get one of two answers: either Thor, the God of Thunder, or the Hulk.
But unfortunately, these two have never truly fought each other, and they might not even know who is stronger. Now, however, Knull has granted humanity their wish. The Hulk, corrupted by a symbiote, has launched a merciless assault on Thor.
"Enough, Hulk!"
Seeing the roaring Hulk charge towards him, Thor knocked him away with a single hammer strike. He spoke, panting, "I know this isn't what you want, Hulk. You are a hero, a powerful warrior, not a puppet or a plaything!"
As Thor shouted, he watched the Hulk rise from the rubble of the building. The symbiote-possessed Hulk said nothing, only sticking out his tongue and baring his sharp fangs. Knull's symbiotes are able to amplify the destructive parts of a person's heart to the greatest extent, and the Hulk was, at his core, a child who only knew destruction.
Seeing the Hulk constantly charging at him, Thor took a deep breath, raised his hammer, and prepared to knock him away again. However, this time, the Hulk suddenly slammed on the brakes in front of him, causing Thor's hammer to miss. He then grabbed Thor's head and let out a roar before slamming him repeatedly onto the ground, causing Thor's helmet and hammer to fall off.
The Hulk then let go and began to pound Thor with his fists, one punch after another, each strike causing the ground to collapse. After being repeatedly beaten, Thor's body released a torrent of lightning, striking the symbiote-Hulk from the air and giving off a roasted smell. Thor finally took the opportunity to land a punch, sending the Hulk flying, and he stood back up and raised his hammer.
"Stop, Hulk! If we keep this up, the entire city will be destroyed by our fight!"
"I don't think he can hear you right now, Thor."
Peter landed, with Cindy carrying Kitty landing behind him. Before Peter could introduce himself, he heard a concerned voice from Thor.
"Ah, Spider. The All-Father Odin said you are the key to defeating Knull. Step back, you are no match for the Hulk."
Peter looked at Thor with his mismatched eyes and sighed helplessly at the brute. "I'm here to help. In fact, we've found a way that might be able to save the Hulk, but we're going to need your help."
"Gladly, Spider. What do you need me to do?"
"I need your hammer. To be more precise, I need your hammer to take someone with it," Peter said, gesturing to Kitty, "This is Kitty Pryde. She can phase through objects and can bring anyone or anything she touches with her."
"So you need this mortal to phase the Hulk out, but her power isn't enough."
When it came to combat, Thor's intelligence was still online. While constantly attacking the Hulk with lightning to stop him from advancing, he held Mjölnir in the air. He then looked at Kitty. "Come, young girl, grab my hammer. It will give you enough power to bring our friend back."
"Actually, I was a normal person—a normal mutant—just a few minutes ago. Now I'm going to save the world." Kitty took a deep breath, grabbed Mjölnir with her left hand, and looked at the three superheroes.
Peter and his companions' mission was now simple: they just needed to temporarily contain the Hulk and stop him from moving. So Peter and Cindy immediately shot out their webs and swung towards him, while Thor, understanding their plan, charged forward with his bare fists and punched the Hulk.
"I never thought I'd see Thor without his hammer."
Even Cindy was surprised by the sight. She swung from the side and her web stuck to one of the Hulk's hands. She then swung to the Hulk's back and began to pull on his arm with all her might. Peter landed next to her and also pulled on a web attached to the Hulk's arm.
"Who would have thought? But then again, Thor is the God of Thunder, not the God of Hammers."
The two talked while pulling on their webs. The Hulk's two arms were temporarily pulled apart, and Thor took the opportunity to land several more punches, venting the anger from being continuously beaten by the Hulk. But the Hulk's rage was uncontrollable, and his strength grew stronger. He quickly broke the webs with brute force and threw another punch at Thor.
But Thor just smiled slyly and held out his hand.
Mjölnir phased through Thor's body, bringing Kitty with it and entering the Hulk's symbiote-covered body. The hammerhead then emerged from the other side of the Hulk's body. Thor took the opportunity to grab the symbiote-Hulk's fist and, at the same time, controlled Mjölnir to quickly exit the Hulk's body. As Mjölnir broke through the dark symbiote, it brought Kitty and the massive Hulk with it—after all, Kitty alone wouldn't have been able to move the Hulk.
The bewildered Hulk looked around and let out a roar, scaring Kitty, who collapsed to the ground. But the Hulk's attention wasn't on her. He looked at Thor, who was smiling as he summoned lightning to completely obliterate the symbiote.
"Welcome back, my friend Hulk."
Thor laughed and picked up his helmet to put it back on. But the Hulk didn't appreciate it. He walked up to Thor, stared at him for a while, and complained indignantly, "You should have left that ugly monster for me, Goldilocks."
"If you want to fight monsters, believe me, there are a lot more monsters waiting for you from Knull."
Peter shrugged and looked at the rescued Hulk. He thought of War Machine, Rhodey, and Hawkeye, and how Kitty should be able to save them too. And as a mutant, she should be with the X-Men, who happened to be at the Sanctum Sanctorum.
So they should go to the Sanctum Sanctorum first. Now that everything seemed to be in place, they just needed to wait for Tony and the others' signal.
So Peter and the others returned to the New York Sanctum Sanctorum and pushed open the door. Kitty didn't even have time to exclaim, "It's bigger on the inside," before she saw a huge mass of symbiotes filling the Sanctum, like a giant, menacing slime.
