Switching the viewpoint to a few minutes earlier, after Dr. Curt Connors had sent all the staff working overtime home, he personally did one last check of all the facilities, including the incubators. This was a testament to his diligence. As the head of the lab, he had to ensure the lab was foolproof and that there were no leaks.
He couldn't account for sudden intrusions like Electro, but if something like the previous incident where a radioactive spider bit Peter Parker happened again, it would be a huge problem. Not everyone could become Spider-Man; if the DNA didn't perfectly match, it would lead to serious accidents or even create a monster.
"Alright, the experiment made some progress today, successfully lowering the influence of the lizard DNA by 0.03%..." Connors muttered. He checked the incubator containing the lizard-infused monkey one last time. Then, he looked at the clock, realizing it was nearly eleven at night. If he went back now, his son Billy would definitely be asleep, and his wife Martha would again scold him for not prioritizing the family.
After finishing his final checks, Connors walked out of the lab. Just as he was about to use his key card to lock the door, something grabbed him and violently threw him back inside, where he crashed against the lab door.
What kind of jerk is here to steal things this time?
"Mr. Curt Connors, Richard's student. I've heard much about you."
Connors pushed himself up and looked at the unwelcome guest who had used such violence. It was a short, stout man wearing sunglasses, holding a cup of coffee in his right hand and a tray in his left.
Four robotic arms extended from his back. The arms were covered in a viscous, reddish biological substance. Connors recognized the figure instantly.
"Dr. Otto Octavius?!"
"Doctor, ah, I'm surprised that Oscorp's research personnel still show me such respect." Otto looked at Connors with surprise, then his gaze fell on Connors' missing arm. He couldn't help but chuckle: "Are you surprised that a patient with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) can walk around here with flexible limbs?"
Connors was indeed a little surprised by the fully limbed Doctor Octopus, but he quickly regained his composure, scrambling to his feet and preparing to say something. But Doctor Octopus used one mechanical tentacle to cover his mouth while another grabbed his leg, pulling him over.
Simultaneously, a third mechanical tentacle reached into the incubator, effortlessly unlocking the electronic lock, while the fourth tentacle skillfully tapped on the control panel's keyboard, preparing the experiment.
"It's really amusing, Norman Osborn is both an incredibly arrogant and incredibly... stingy fellow. He plagiarized my achievements, yet considers them his own. He clearly has the scientific acumen, but to save money, he didn't even change the underlying code for the security system, still using my old core code. How foolish."
As Otto spoke, he watched the machine automatically pull the mutant lizard onto the lab table for blood extraction, analysis, the addition of chemical substances, neutralization, and correction of various human-incompatible DNA sequences, ultimately completing a single vial of serum.
His tentacle finally released Connors' mouth.
"That serum... hasn't been perfected, Otto. You can't create a Super Soldier with it, you can only create a monster...?!"
"Yes, a monster."
Otto laughed. Connors finally guessed Otto's plan. He swallowed hard, listening in disbelief as Otto explained: "I've been here several times now. Of course, it wasn't necessarily me personally, but my memory was enough to create a lab that looks identical to this one."
"Next, people will see that, in response to the Pentagon's acquisition attempt, Norman Osborn chose to pressure his Super Soldier Program supervisor, Dr. Curt Connors. Under his boss's oppression, Connors reluctantly chose to use himself as a human test subject, ultimately transforming himself into a terrifying Lizard monster. Don't worry, a perfectly unfabricated video will prove everything."
A mechanical tentacle held up a vial of what was undoubtedly a failed Lizard serum. Doctor Octopus looked at the transparent serum in the test tube, giving a heartfelt compliment: "Look, the first step in my revenge against Norman, a small, perfect gift."
Realizing the severity of the situation, Dr. Connors, unable to stop Doctor Octopus's malicious act, tried to defeat him through logic.
"Do you believe people will buy this flimsy narrative?!"
"I believe the Pentagon will."
Two mechanical tentacles lifted Dr. Connors up, fitting a muzzle over his mouth to prevent him from speaking. One tentacle injected the Lizard serum into Connors' body, while the last tentacle deployed another vial of serum from its palm and injected it into Dr. Connors.
"It's quite interesting, Dr. Connors. The Erskine Serum we replicated cannot effectively induce mutation. It can only adapt based on the user's willpower and physical fitness; failure results in death. But we discovered from Max Dillon—oh, the guy who stole your electric eel—that if we use it in combination with other animal serums, we can guide the enhancement. One plus one is greater than two."
As Otto spoke, he walked over to the control panel's computer, easily cracked Oscorp's central computer with a USB drive, and entered the system. He didn't forget to look back at Connors, using the two empty tentacle palms—from which the serums had been injected—to emit Vita-Rays capable of inducing and accelerating cellular mutation.
"After all, an ordinary monster is no match for Spider-Man. Let's see what Oscorp has plagiarized over the years... Military equipment, genetic science, environmental protection, Spider-Man... hmm, no identity information for Spider-Man, as expected..."
He suddenly froze because he saw something.
"A gene-altering spider for curing ALS?! Jonathan Drew?! His spider isn't here!"
Realizing this, Otto turned around and roared: "Where is Jonathan Drew's spider!..."
His roar was cut short. Illuminated by the Vita-Rays, which his sunglasses partially shielded, a colossal reptilian monster—whose head was already over four meters tall even while crouching forward—was staring at Otto with its golden eyes.
