"So, your secret base is a rooftop lab. Looks pretty decent."
"Yeah, except the elevator looks kind of old. Though usually, I don't use the elevator; I just swing right in."
Peter hadn't initially planned on bringing Gwen to the Spider-Web Base, but he suddenly changed his mind. Gwen might genuinely be able to help with something without putting herself in too much danger.
And all of this required Gwen to participate in the upcoming strategy meeting.
"Oh, hey, Peter, you're here too..."
Harry, who had been about to engage in some Spider-Man talk, rose and saw Gwen following behind. After a moment of astonishment, he looked at Peter, unsure what to say. Peter addressed the situation directly: "Gwen knows I'm Spider-Man, Harry. She knew before any of you, and she figured it out herself."
Harry: ???
Gwen merely smiled and greeted the people inside. Peter had already told her who would be attending today, including people Gwen didn't know, such as Dr. Jonathan Drew—Jessica Drew's father—who had improved the spider project left by Richard Parker and created the spider that bit Peter and Cindy.
There was also Kraven the Hunter. Gwen actually knew everyone else.
"It's getting late, Dr. Jonathan. Any progress on the antidote?"
"It's very difficult, Peter, or rather, quite problematic. We don't have a blood sample from [Dr. Curt] Connors. He never donated blood, and any blood from previous medical checkups would have been discarded long ago."
Jonathan scratched his head in frustration, but Peter walked up to the operating console, performed a few quick actions on the computer, and a refrigerated vial of blood popped out. Peter took it out and handed it to Jonathan.
Jonathan was wide-eyed with shock.
"This is... this is..."
"Dr. Connors's serum. I once discussed with him the possibility of him becoming the super-villain Lizard in other universes. Just in case, he drew this vial of blood. Although he joked he would never inject himself with an unsuccessful serum, we made preparations just in case."
"I'll start synthesizing the antidote immediately."
"Oh, uh, also, make one for me. If I have to stop him, he might try to use the serum on me." Peter sighed after speaking: "We originally installed a tracker in his body with his permission, but unfortunately, for some reason, the tracker is now offline."
"You sound less like Spider-Man and more like Batman."
The one making the quip was Black Cat. She opened the door and walked in. Her goggles, which completely failed to conceal her identity, left Harry speechless. Who was that? Felicia Hardy? She's a superhero too?
How many people in this club aren't superheroes?
"I brought the Hunter, Spiderling, and... I didn't expect you to bring the little girlfriend."
Felicia gave Gwen a subtly teasing look. Peter ignored her and extended a hand to the following Kraven the Hunter: "Welcome, Mr. Kraven. We need the assistance of your specialized skills."
"I heard you need to hunt a massive lizard, so I came."
Kraven wasn't wearing his usual suit but had changed into the kind of attire—made of exotic animal pelts—that would infuriate animal rights organizations, which he, of course, paid no attention to. Kraven merely smiled, awaiting Peter's request.
"This is his biological fragment. He tore off a piece of his body while trying to escape. This is a section of his back. I hope it helps."
"It's sufficient. With this piece of his back, I can confirm his characteristics. I'll leave immediately and notify you as soon as I have any information." Kraven nodded and walked out. Peter didn't forget to remind him: "That's no ordinary enemy, Mr. Kraven. Don't underestimate him."
"Rest assured, Spider-Man. I know what's important."
After Kraven left, Cindy was the last to arrive and closed the door. The instant the door was shut, Peter sighed and had Venom cover the entire room.
"This is a signal jammer, everyone. This concerns our next operation, so I need absolute secrecy."
Peter looked at everyone and rubbed his temples: "Norman Osborn is problematic; that much is certain. Ever since Mysterio first invaded Osborn Technologies, it's highly likely he's done absolutely nothing to upgrade the lab's security, and there have been no countermeasures even after Electro's invasion. Keep in mind that even his own office has dedicated defensive equipment, so it makes no sense that he couldn't equip the lab with security."
Remember that when the Vulture was possessed by a symbiote and invaded the lab, Osborn deployed not just high-strength protective glass but even a security force. But this time, since Doctor Octopus's invasion, the entire Osborn Technologies building hasn't reacted at all. Doc Ock didn't climb the walls, or Peter would have definitely seen him. This suggests Doc Ock most likely took the elevator right up, in broad daylight.
Not only was the security system of Osborn Technologies easily breached yet again, after already being invaded twice, but the security force never appeared at all, and the entire lab was completely devoid of defensive measures.
"He's doing it on purpose, absolutely. He doesn't care about people's lives."
Harry stated this without surprise. Peter then looked at Harry: "Harry, I need you to go home and try to steal some information from Osborn Technologies, to figure out what Norman is planning. This, of course, is the first distraction."
"Leave it to me."
"Black Cat, you're going to break into the Osborn Technologies building and steal. You are the second layer of distraction. When you leave or are driven away, that will be the moment Norman is most off-guard."
Felicia nodded. This was about the Super-Soldier Serum project; she would take it seriously.
"After you leave, Norman will definitely check his office himself. That's when we'll be able to see the secrets inside," Peter finally looked at Gwen: "Gwen, I really don't want to ask this of you, but..."
"Leave it to me. I won't disappoint you."
Harry was completely confused: "Wait, Gwen? What ability does she have..."
"Cindy and I will go after the Lizard. Before that, I need to contact the NYPD. Any other questions?"
Harry thought for a moment: he would draw his father's attention, giving Black Cat enough time to search his office.
"No problem."
