Chapter 305 - Chapter 305: Kraven vs. The Lizard

Kraven the Hunter, the world's greatest hunter, was walking through the sewers of New York, tracking The Lizard. He analyzed every feature of the surrounding environment: the friction marks of scales on the walls, and tiny tissue fragments. Kraven sought to find the Lizard's whereabouts from these subtle clues.

Honestly, he trusted Spider-Man's judgment that there was a conspiracy by Oscorp behind this, but he didn't quite believe the danger was at the level that warranted Spider-Man's current state of tension.

Spider-Man seemed excessively nervous when dealing with the Lizard.

After all, the enemy was just an animal. Even a mutated one couldn't change its biological habits, and that was the enemy's weakness. By exploiting it, one could defeat the beast.

"Perhaps I can find and take him out all by myself."

Kraven muttered. Spider-Man might intend to rescue his old friend, but for Kraven, this kind of enemy was not just a dangerous monster but a highly sought-after and worthy quarry.

If he "accidentally" killed the target, Spider-Man likely couldn't do much but accept it.

The prerequisite, of course, was that he could actually defeat the opponent.

As Kraven thought this, he weighed the spear in his hand. He had forged this spear himself in New York from Adamantium alloy—it was strong enough to pierce the Lizard's skin.

"Alright, let's see what you're capable of and where you've been hiding, Lizard..."

The Lizard was sleeping.

Earlier this morning, the Lizard had hidden in Otto Octavius's old sewer laboratory. While wandering the sewers, he caught Otto's scent. Relying on the powerful reptilian ability to analyze taste with his tongue, he tracked the scent all the way to Otto's old lab.

Then, an idea struck him: the new Lizard serum. He quickly realized how solitary his existence was and sought to create new kin.

That's what he wanted to do.

The Lizard looked at a capacitor inside the lab with confusion. Something seemed to have been inside it not long ago, but now it was empty?

After only a moment's thought, the Lizard stopped pondering. He turned and bit off his own tail, collected a vial of his blood, and began purifying the serum and manufacturing an atomizing device.

The underground lab, less than three meters high, was cramped and hard for him to adapt to, but thankfully, the most difficult step—the creation of the Lizard serum—wasn't particularly troublesome; for the Lizard, it was second nature. He finished this most complex step in no time.

The atomizing device was much simpler.

Looking at the serum being purified, the Lizard felt hunger again. He began to eat his own tail. After finishing, he burst out of the lab and headed down the sewer towards the Hudson River.

There were enough fish there to eat; he wouldn't need to consume people.

Time passed until the afternoon. The Lizard, who had spent nearly a day foraging underwater, returned to the lab. To evade pursuit by the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D., he had chosen to move slowly along the riverbed, which was why it took so long.

The good news was that his serum was now fully purified.

The Lizard picked up the plastic sheeting he had salvaged from the river bottom, packed the atomizing device and the vials of Lizard serum, and prepared to leave under the cover of night.

Just as he was about to depart, Kraven, who had spent over an hour finally catching up, found the Lizard.

The Lizard's massive frame immediately captivated Kraven.

What a terrifyingly strong beast! Kraven had hunted lions, but male lions were lazy and arrogant, not as agile as lionesses, and lionesses lacked sufficient strength.

He had hunted bears and tigers, but one was huge and slow, while the other was stealthy and preferred ambush.

To ordinary people, these might be apex predators. But for Kraven, who could kill an African hippo or elephant with cold weapons, these animals were truly not worthy.

But this beast before him was strong enough! Big enough! Its eyes held no weariness or laziness, only pure, raw desire!

"New York truly is a wonderful place!"

The Adamantium spear in his hand shot out, striking the plastic sheeting wrapped around the Lizard and shattering one of the serum vials inside. The Lizard saw this and roared, facing Kraven with an answering bellow.

"Come on, monster! Let's see what you've got!"

The next second, the Lizard lunged at Kraven. Kraven nimbly dodged, drew the hunting knife from his waist, and prepared to duel the Lizard. He also kept his focus on the truly important matter: it would be best to destroy all the Lizard serums right here, so Spider-Man and the others wouldn't have to worry about the danger anymore.

Thinking this, Kraven lunged directly at the massive tail that swept towards him. He tightly hugged the tail, letting its immense power sweep him into the wall, then savagely plunged his hunting knife into the tail. He chose not to sever the tail because, from what he knew, the Lizard's healing ability was astonishingly strong.

His goal was simply to inflict pain.

As expected, the Lizard, having been attacked and feeling pain, retracted its tail. Kraven seized the opportunity to rush toward the serums tied to the Lizard's shoulder. The Lizard's other hand slapped out, but Kraven's Adamantium knife sliced through it instantly.

"ROAR!!!"

The Lizard didn't speak but instead bit down hard on Kraven's shoulder, tearing viciously.

"Yes! That's right! Just like that!"

Kraven, in his excitement, slashed the Lizard's neck with his knife, forcing it to release him. He then reached out to grab the atomizing device, but the Lizard recovered quickly and immediately fled. Kraven only managed to snatch one more vial of serum before being swept away by a tail strike.

However, the Lizard also chose not to prolong the fight and immediately bolted out of the lab.

"Spider-Man, this is Kraven. I've found him. He's on the east bank of the Hudson River and just ran into the river. You should be able to easily catch him from the water's surface. Yes, he's carrying serum and a diffusion device. I've seized two of the vials and installed a tracker on his tail."

Kraven took a deep breath. He felt cold all over and gave a reluctant laugh: "What a fierce beast. Too bad this is a tracking mission, not a hunting mission... Be careful, Spider-Man. He's a venomous Lizard. His bite is highly toxic."

"I'm fine. The Super Soldier Serum is neutralizing the toxins in my body. I'll be good in a moment."
