Chapter 1 - Chapter 0

In life there are things we all take for granted. The ability to breathe without thinking, or Being able to remember our phone password. One thing I always took for granted was time.

Time always seemed constant, something that stopped or changed route for anything. I always took a little solace in that fact. If I ever felt like something was too hard I thought of how nothing can stop something like time. I never knew it could be so frail.

I first found out about my curse on my first day of high school. I woke up late and sprinted out of my door still putting on my uniform.

I was so focused on getting to school that I didn't hear the very large truck hurdling at speeds it shouldn't have and I was too late to react.

That's how I got here staring at this truck inches from my face yet it refused to budge an inch. As quickly as it stopped the truck regained its previous momentum.

The driver, in an attempt to not run me over, veered to the right but still made contact with me. My body rag dolled as I felt bones crack and blood splurt out of holes in my body that didn't exist a moment ago.

The pain rushed into my head quickly replacing all of my rational thoughts with a desperate need for relief. I felt every drop of blood that left my body.

Looking down made everything worse. My legs were facing the wrong direction and a large pipe was sticking out of my stomach. Suddenly the pain intensified as I was now very aware of the large object poking through my gut.

More blood gushed out of a cut on my leg making me feel woozy. It shot out like it was trying to escape my body. Did the cut hit an artery? I didn't have time to worry about if it did as I felt a drowsiness engulf my being.

It was different from a tired need to sleep it was like a pulling in my mind forcing me to close my eyes. Looking at my bloodied hand I accepted my fate. The pain had mostly left by now. I imagine my body had produced enough adrenaline to make anyone numb.

"Fuck!" I tried to scream in frustration but it was more like an aggressive whimper.

What did I do to die like this? I woke up late for school and now I die? My eyes became heavier with each second. Maybe just a quick rest before I find a way out of this?

Losing consciousness I drifted off into pure black. I lost my life on that street with the pipe through me, or so I thought.

Waking up in bed I took a second to think before rightfully screaming at the top of my lungs.

My mother bursted through the door as I clutched my head and started crying.

"Honey what's wrong!" She yelled trying to figure out what had happened

"H-how am I alive?" I let out between sobs

My mother rubbed her hand soothingly across my back. She shushed me before pulling me into a hug.

"I don't know what happened but stay home at rest today okay honey?"

I nodded my head in her embrace. Shortly after she let go.

"I have to go to work but please just stay in bed and rest up okay?" She looked worried

I nodded again still teary eyed. She left the room as I tried to collect my thoughts. I had definitely died. The feelings I felt and thing I saw were to vivid to be a dream.

Walking downstairs I noticed my mother had accidentally left the Tv on when she left.

"On today's news, a runaway truck crashes in neighborhood. The suspect seems to have had been inebriated at the time of the crash. No casualities caused, but the driver does seem to be injured. Stay tuned for 10 o clock b-"

I shut off the Tv in shock. That was the crash I had died in. I remember what the driver looked like. Had I looped in time? The thought terrified me. How many times could I die without actually dying? I hate experiencing pain. My hands were still shivering from the memories of what happened.

"This is a terrible start to a school year." I laughed at my own terrible joke. Maybe that was the only way to cope with what had happened.

If only I knew how right I was because that year of high school would go on to be the most stressful and painful year of my life. It also became the year I met her, the one who changed everything.
