I can't believe it was right under my nose all this time, yet I still didn't see it coming. Everything makes sense now—Chester demanding privacy like never before, and his sudden awkwardness. I should've known damnit, should've stalked his ass like I wanted to after noticing the change in his behavior around me.
My lungs feel fresh after my good laugh, and I get back to staring at the couple before me, dumbfounded.
"You and Manon?" I ask again, though I already know what I heard.
Chester nods, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah. We didn't plan it. It just... happened."
He fixes his grip on Manon's hand, as if that somehow makes this less infuriating. As for my little cousin, she's calmer than her 'boyfriend'—my god she's an idiot—but I can see the nerves in her eyes.
