Chapter 01: Summoner Summoned
Do the weird CYOA, Solomon, it'll be fun Solomon.
Past me was a moron, though in his defence I didn't exactly expect a random CYOA that popped up in my inbox to kidnap me from my fucking world!
Okay, sure the email was kinda shady and I had to double and triple check for viruses before I checked out the CYOA, simply called the 'Game Master', but I figured one of my friends sent it to me from an email I didn't have saved.
But apparently, it was sent by an omnipotent asshole, too lazy to do his own recruitment for his interdimensional guild.
So, by the whims of a bored man with more power than common sense, Solomon White disappears from the world.
Yes, I am well aware my name makes me sound like a fucking wizard instead of a university student. Solomon the White.
My parents are weird, some nerds shouldn't be allowed to reproduce. Yes, I'm just as nerdy as them but at least I wouldn't call my son Solomon.
I suppose I should just be glad I'm not actually called Gandalf or Albus, even if Dad snuck Tiberius in as my middle name. Fucking Trekkies.
Dad loves sci-fi, Mum loves fantasy, and here I am loving both.
But yes, stupid stupid name. School was a difficult time for me, kids can be cruel, so very cruel.
Gasping as I sit up in my chair, in my new apartment, I look around the nice living room with a frown.
It's a lovely house, it is.
It'd be nicer if it wasn't in Brockton Bay. Once more past me screwed current me, his lust for Glory Girl and Panpan clouded his mind and diluted his common sense to actually pick fucking Worm as the world of choice.
It's why my fancy new house is on the same street as the Dallon family, and it's why I go to Arcadia, but unlike the fantasy I was picturing I have to face reality.
Victoria is taken and Amy is… Amy. A ticking time bomb, in the best scenarios. I don't even know which Amy I'm dealing with. Hell, even if this is Canon Amy, is it Worm Canon or god forbid, Ward Amy.
Has Wildbow come and taken a piss on this world of mine, so nobody can have nice things?
And here I am, stuck in this hellscape because past me was thinking with his penis at 3 a.m and made stupid choices because of it.
Okay, let's focus on the current situation instead of cursing my stupid 3 a.m decisions. How fucked am I?
Well, I'm in Worm so that's immediately a very, but specifically how bad is it.
I chose one week before the Locker, so the main story hasn't even started yet, Scion is off doing Scion things and I have time.
Time to do what? Fuck if I know, but time all the same.
Calm down, I can do this.
I'm the Game Master, even now I can feel the power I've been granted, the limitless potential. As long as I'm smart, I should be fine.
I wasn't that stupid when I was making my build, my focus wasn't entirely on the girls.
The short version of what my power does? I'm the ultimate summoner.
I can summon anything from any form of media, whether it's magical items, monsters, or gods.
Or I will be able to, in time.
Admittedly I'm rather limited at the moment because I need to unlock different summons with GM points I earn by… well, doing stuff.
What stuff? Anything, as long as I'm not sitting on my ass or just playing the regular civilian I'll get more GM points.
I also have a summon limit, the stronger the summon the more slots it takes up, but that'll grow with time and even eventually be removed entirely.
Summoning items costs GM points, but they're permanently unlocked once I buy them, and I can spawn more copies of them for a considerably reduced price (unless it's a unique item) and consumables regenerate.
If I buy a potion of healing, it'll refill eventually and if I buy another copy then I have two refilling potions. The more powerful the consumable the longer it takes to respawn, which is fair.
They can't be stolen or permanently destroyed since I can recall them or they'll repair themselves over time in my pocket dimension (based on how badly damaged and how powerful the items are).
I won't be summoning Thor Odinson, Protector of Mankind, to come and one-shot an Endbringer for me anytime soon, but that doesn't mean I'm defenceless.
To start with I've got something very important.
I can't actually buy powers with my points, I'm almost entirely limited to summoning items or creatures, but what I can buy are perks.
Such as this, which came as a freebie to anyone dumb enough to pick Worm as their starter world.
[Blank]
You are immune to both Master and Thinker abilities.
Thank god for that, because there are too many threats that fall into one of those two categories, not least of which is a certain stylish hat lady.
I also grabbed a couple of magical items to begin with, because while I can't give myself powers directly I can make do with different magical items.
I couldn't make myself a super soldier, but I could summon the super-soldier serum from Marvel and use it on myself. I have options.
But for now, the items I have are more about hiding my identity than empowering me.
[Masquerade Tattoo]
This tattoo appears on your body in whatever pattern and colour you desire, able to be changed at will. This tattoo allows the wearer to alter their appearance, as long as they remain humanoid and roughly the same size.
It was the cheapest reliable form of shapeshifting or disguising myself I could find. I've had it take the shape of a golden trinity knot on my shoulder.
I also grabbed this to help with the cape costume.
[Everchange Outfit]
This outfit can be altered at will by the wearer, changing the style, colour and material. It also cleans and repairs itself over time.
The ability to change both my face and outfit at will should help me avoid following Fleur's footsteps because I don't have faith in the unwritten rules actually being followed.
They're really more of a suggestion when you're powerful enough, I don't need someone forcibly recruiting me or just putting me down because I stepped on the wrong toes.
I bought a small selection of summons to start with, for a variety of roles.
Summons
[Basic Elemental Bundle]
Water Elemental, Fire Elemental, Earth Elemental, Air Elemental
[Carbuncle]
[Black Chocobo]
You can buy summons in bundles, sometimes sorted by type or by their original media, which is cheaper if you plan to get them all or buy them individually as I did for my Chocobo and Carbuncle.
The Final Fantasy pack was far too expensive to start with, considering it had Behemoths and things like Ramuh and Shiva in it.
The Chocobo is my transport since they can go very fast, the Carbuncle is my support and healer summon, and the elementals are my damage options.
As for where most of my points went?
Well, beyond monsters you can also get unique 'hero' summons, which are specific characters (despite the hero description, you can obviously get villains as well).
Basically, every character from any series is at my fingertips, but they take up a lot of space in my summon limit.
However, you can spend GM points to make any summon permanent, cost depending on their power, so they no longer count towards your limit.
Hearing some humming, I head towards the kitchen and watch the curvy blonde woman happily making breakfast for a moment, dressed in some comfy pyjamas and a fluffy dressing gown.
[Character Background]
This skill allows you to alter the world you are in to give your hero summons a legitimate background when they are made permanent.
One of the GM skills I picked up immediately because The Game Master can alter reality itself to control the 'game'. Most of the skills are hilariously expensive, but this one was affordable.
"Ah, Solomon! Breakfast is almost ready," she says, her Swiss accent clear as she smiles at me.
"Thank you, Me- Dr Ziegler?" I say, testing the words as she chuckles.
"Given everything, I think Angela is more appropriate," Angela Ziegler, the former Overwatch agent known as Mercy, says cheerfully as she plates up my food.
See, I didn't want to drop into this world as a recordless orphan and I didn't want to get put with a family I didn't know, so I had an idea.
What if I made one of my summons, my official legal guardian?
Angela Ziegler is my aunt, my only surviving family member after my parents died in a cape battle, which is why I recently moved to Brockton Bay to live with her.
She's a doctor at the Brockton Bay General Hospital, a genius who has progressed the cause of medical research considerably. I considered making her a Protectorate hero as Mercy but decided against it.
She's just a very good doctor, her Caduceus staff and Valkyrie suit hidden away in my interdimensional storage space.
Why her? Partially because having such a good healer ready to patch me up after fights sounded like a good idea… and mostly because she's incredibly hot.
"Eat up, it's your first day at Arcadia and breakfast is the most important meal," Angela says warmly, sipping her coffee.
Angela is my summon, at my command, she can't disobey me which is why I liked the idea of my summon being my legal guardian. She remembers her past in Overwatch, but I'm not sure what her opinion is about this whole situation.
She's not wrong that it's my first day at Arcadia, the Locker incident happened on the first day back to school after the winter break that's just ended but I've looked into it and Winslow is closed for another week.
I've looked into it and thank fuck I simped for Vicky and not Taylor, because if I did I'd be going to Winslow and that sounds like actual hell.
"What do you think about this, Angela?" I ask, making her pause.
"I think this world could use an Overwatch of its own if your memories are to be believed," Angela says, frowning as she leans against the counter. "Endbringers and this 'Scion', and I thought that Null Sector was bad."
It's not my memories, but she has access to what I know unless I want to block her out.
"You're not wrong, but I meant about the whole being summoned thing," I admit, making her smile. "You did kinda get grabbed to come play babysitter."
"Ah, I see. Hmm, I do not mind. I am not that Angela, she's still in her own world, in countless versions of her world if I understand correctly, I essentially exist to be summoned by you," Angela finally says, and while I wonder if the system is making her think that, I'm not going to look a gift healer in the mouth. "I am at your command, Sol, and I find myself more comfortable with that than that version of Angela would have been."
"That's good, I get the feeling I'm going to need your healing before long, no matter what I do," I admit, making her chuckle.
"Ah, but it's not why you picked me, is it? You chose me for my looks, not my medical prowess," Angela says, teasingly. She's not reluctant to tease her master, giving me a small smirk.
I can alter the personalities of hero units, it's part of being the game master. I could have made Mercy into a sadistic villain who only heals people so she can hurt them more, but I've left her at basically factory settings.
"Hm, you're not wrong. Sorry?" I say half-heartedly, making her chuckle.
"You're a perfectly healthy teenage boy, who was indulging in a little harmless fantasy about a fictional character. You can hardly be blamed," Angela says kindly. "Now eat, it's going cold. I will drive you to Arcadia, and tonight we can discuss what you want to do now that you are in this world. I'm working at the hospital later, I took this morning off to help you settle in."
She's fitting into her new memories easily, both remembering being Mercy, the Overwatch hero and being Angela Ziegler, the Swiss immigrant to Brockton Bay.
"Right, thank you," I say, starting to eat the admittedly very nice meal. I don't need to thank her, she's at my command, but it doesn't hurt to have manners and it'll help us keep up the image of being a doting aunt and her newly orphaned nephew.
She's right about one thing, I need to work out what I'm going to do in this mess.
My plan in my late night fantasising as I completed the CYOA? Become the big damn hero, beat the Endbringers, beat Scion, get the girls and save the world.
It's easy to think about while you're sitting at a computer desk in exactly zero danger, it's not like I had an actual plan to deal with the big bads.
I might as well have been counting on the power of friendship to win the day.
Plus, I picked the AU option for more points, an easy decision at the time but possibly a mistake with the benefit of hindsight given that I don't know what has changed.
So, what do I do?
I won't stick my head in the sand and hope for the best, I can't leave Worm until Scion is neutralised one way or the other, and while I could pray that Taylor pulls off her Khepri trick and wins the day… Gold Morning had so many casualties in canon, Earth Bet was devastated, and billions died.
Even assuming I don't end up one of them, I don't think I can sit idly by and hope for the best.
I have unlimited potential, as the Game Master I could grow powerful enough to make this entire multiverse, every earth, my 'playground'. A fully realised Game Master could erase Scion with a thought because this is the power to become the DM of reality itself.
I've been the GM of a few tabletop games, but this is the power to alter the very fabric of reality, and complete control over everything.
So, if I want to stop Gold Morning from happening, I need power in immense quantities.
As such, I can't be idle, I need to be active to gather as many points as I can, more summons, more heroes, more magical items.
When Scion snaps, I want his fight to be a one-sided slaughter, a depressed fool throwing a tantrum only to be squashed immediately.
Note to self, find Jack Slash and put down that murderhobo, to buy myself more time to prepare.
Of course, that's all depending on the AU changes being small enough to not have changed the plot entirely, but I only took the first level of the perk so it should be minor changes.
I'll have to wait and see, looking out at the city as Angela drives me to school. She's wealthy, and we live in the best part of the city. You almost can't tell that this place is a corrupted shithole.
So, I need to be part of the action.
That leaves three main paths. Hero, villain or rogue.
Rogue isn't for me, they tend to avoid fighting and focus on making money which is the opposite of what I want since I need points, which I'll get from fighting.
As for being a villain? Well, I don't like hurting people who don't deserve it. I could try to be one of the harmless jokey villains but this world eats them up, even Uber and Leet are genuine villains. Beating up prostitutes, working for Bakuda? They aren't the funny 'haha, nerd' villains, they're a pair of assholes giving gamers a bad name.
I guess the Undersiders are an option but that means Coil, also no thanks to be perfectly honest.
I wanted to be the big damn hero, so that's what I'm going to damn well do. At least I shouldn't need to worry about running out of villains, this is Brockton Bay after all.
It's a buffet of free GM points if I'm willing to take the risk of going out as a hero.
If I ever want to see my parents again, or my friends, I need to slay Scion and be free of Worm. Of course, it'll also open the larger multiverse to me, every universe at my fingertips.
I could take my dad on a joyride of the Enterprise, and take my mom to see Rivendell. Apparently, my 'home' world is currently paused, once I return no time will have passed. Nobody knows I'm gone, and if all goes well and I survive it will stay that way.
Playing the hero comes with its own risks and options. Join an independent group, ride solo, join the Wards.
The only independent group of heroes in the bay is New Wave (unless that's changed as well), and I'm not unmasking.
Wards means putting myself under the control of the PRT, and by extension Cauldron.
That said, I'm never going to be able to avoid the boogeymen entirely, especially as my power grows, and being solo makes me more vulnerable in this early stage.
Coil could come for me, but if I'm in the wards he's unlikely to bother, why risk blowing his cover when he plans to become the director anyway?
There are pros and cons to both, but I plan to start solo at the very least, while I get the lay of the land and work out what's changed and what is as I remember it.
But for now, I have something far more intimidating than fighting some gang members and supervillains.
High-School.
I escaped this hell, I was enjoying university, but my dumbass picked this start and now I have to deal with this bullshit all over again.
Note to self, avoid cheerleaders, even if they seem interested in you. Especially if they seem interested in you.
Made that mistake before, I'm looking at you, Bethany.
— Dean Stansfield (Gallant) —
Getting a new student after the winter break wasn't necessarily strange, even if it was an odd time to join the school since the year was almost over.
That said, there was definitely a buzz around the school over the new student, apparently the nephew of Doctor Ziegler.
He didn't go to the hospital much but even he'd heard of the very talented Swiss doctor, with seven PhDs at thirty. She was a hero in a different way to him, spending a lot of time travelling to different warzones with the mostly defunct Doctors Without Borders, before settling in Brockton Bay of all places.
She was also incredibly good-looking, having drawn a lot of attention fussing over her nephew at the school gate, much to the teenage boy's embarrassment.
Yes, he noticed that Angela was very hot, he might be dating Vicky but he wasn't blind.
The rumour mill was in full effect, people prying into things that weren't any of their business as they looked into Solomon's past with all the subtlety and restraint of a horde of nosy teenagers (and wasn't that a unique name).
Solomon's parents had recently died in a cape battle in England, his home country. Apparently, they got caught in a particularly violent fight between some local villain and the King's Men. Someone had managed to find an online news article about it, a brief mention of Solomon which stood out because of his unique name.
Poor guy, moving from Cambridge to Brockton Bay must be one hell of a culture shock, just salt being rubbed into an open wound
As he spotted Solomon entering the cafeteria, his first thought upon getting a good look at him was honestly probably a little unfair.
Because he immediately thought that Solomon, or Sol as he apparently preferred, looked like he'd walked off an Empire 88 recruitment poster.
Tousled light blonde hair and pale blue eyes, which made sense since Dr Ziegler had the same, Sol looked around the room somewhat awkwardly, first-day jitters obvious.
Sol was definitely good-looking, Dean was picking up enough attraction from the girls of the school to see that, and he spotted Vicky giving Sol a once-over. He wasn't easily jealous, and given the glance he gave Dr Ziegler not two hours ago he certainly wasn't going to call her out on it.
Especially given that she immediately turned to Amy, nudging her sister as she spoke in hushed tones, Amy looking clearly annoyed as Vicky continued her schemes to set Amy up with someone.
Amy worked with Dr. Ziegler often, seemingly fond of the older woman (or as fond as Amy was of anyone).
Dennis, being Dennis, tossed an arm over his shoulder making Sol jump slightly at the unexpected touch, saying something he couldn't make out as they went to get something to eat.
By the time they were heading towards the table most of the Wards were sitting, Sol was grinning and joking with Dennis, chuckling at something Dennis said.
Dennis was good at that, as much as he liked playing the irresponsible jokester he was genuinely very good at getting people to relax.
Introductions were had, and Vicky entirely by coincidence decided to move spaces so Sol ended up next to Amy. His girlfriend was many things, most of them good, but subtle was certainly not one of them.
However, as he picked up Amy's annoyance he noticed something odd. He wasn't picking up anything from Sol, not a hint of emotion from the other boy.
As they ate, Amy's hand briefly brushed against Sol's as she went to grab her drink, and he didn't miss the brief moment of befuddlement from the grumpy girl, her ever-present frown fading for a moment as she glanced towards the boy next to her, before she schooled her expression, looking to see if anyone noticed her slip.
They briefly made eye contact, sharing a look before they moved on.
Amy picked up something from Sol, much like he picked up nothing from the new boy, and the loss of his parents sounded like a trigger event if he ever heard of one.
But the unwritten rules existed for a reason, and he couldn't bring it up to anyone, even if he was immediately worried about Sol possibly getting grabbed by one of the gangs.
Not to mention, trying to talk to him would almost definitely break his own cover, leaving him extremely indecisive over what to do.
— Amy Dallon (Panacea) —
Brushing her hand against Sol's arm, she confirmed what she already suspected.
She couldn't pick up anything from him, she was almost sure she could affect him but she normally saw everything when she touched someone, and yet with Sol, she might as well be touching a stone.
She wouldn't be able to heal him, without her power able to see what was wrong with him, and this had never happened before with the exception of a couple of particularly weird Case-53s that registered as inorganic to her power.
He was definitely a living breathing human being, as he turned to speak to Chris who was sitting on the other side of her she felt his warm breath due to how close they were sitting. The table was already crowded before Dennis brought Sol over, she could feel the warmth of his skin as he brushed against her to get away from Dennis's exaggerated movements as Dennis told a story of his latest prank, but she couldn't see anything.
He was a cape, she was sure of it, it was either that or he was a very realistic Tinkertech robot, and given that he was the nephew of Doctor Ziegler she was willing to rule that second theory out.
She'd heard the gossip around the hospital about Angela's sister dying in a cape battle, that she'd be taking in her nephew, and she knew enough to know a trigger event when she heard one.
But it wasn't any of her business, she highly doubted the nephew of one of the best people she knew was going to go villain, more likely she'd hear of a new Ward soon.
She deliberately didn't pay too much attention to the admittedly somewhat cute boy sitting next to her, not giving Vicky any ammunition to tease her with later.
She had enough to worry about anyway, he wasn't her problem.
— Solomon White —
"So, is your middle name really Tiberius?" Chris asks as I sigh.
"Yes, my dad is- was a Trekkie," I sigh, catching a slight wince from most of the table as I correct myself. "If only he'd gotten the first name, I'd be called James instead of Solomon, with some fantasy middle name like Elrond or Aslan, but alas my mum won the rock paper scissors match."
The suddenly sombre silence lightens a little at my forlorn, but clearly mostly joking, tone, I don't want to make things awkward.
It's awkward enough after I accidentally made friends with Clockblocker because I forgot his actual name. I was planning on avoiding the Wards but Dennis ambushed me, and it'd look more suspicious to go out of my way to avoid them when I have no reason to.
It's hard to act like I'm grieving when my real parents are fine, frozen at home, unaware I'm on a bit of adventure of my own, and I've clearly already alerted Dean, or more accurately Gallant, to the fact that something is wrong.
Past Sol, you goddamn simp, was this really worth the chance to be near Vicky and Amy?
Okay admittedly Vicky is extremely attractive, and Amy is very cute, but no it fucking wasn't.
I could have picked an adult or college-aged starting point and avoided most of the main cast so I wouldn't have this particular issue but nooooo~ past Sol had genius plans to win Vicky from Dean in his fantasy.
Though I'm pretty sure what Dean is picking up is the fact that he can't pick anything up, which puts us both in a weird situation of us pretending we don't know the other's secrets.
I could turn off Blank but there are a few issues with that.
Issue one, Simurgh, enough said.
Issue two, Contessa, enough said.
Issue three, my emotions don't match a recently orphaned teenage boy, so that'd be suspicious enough anyway.
No, it's better to keep Blank up despite the issues it may cause.
The conversation stays light, with a few questions aimed at what England is like, the answer? Rainy, obviously.
Classes start, and once again I stand out because I graduated and was well into my university degree in my past life, so I frankly breeze through the classes and any questions thrown my way.
Well, I was a nerd in school anyway so that's more of the same, witness my genius you mere high-schoolers.
Still, I'm not that much older than them. Most of them are around 16-17, and so am I now, whereas I got yoinked from my old world at the ripe old age of 20.
The sacred rule of half your age plus seven is still in effect, and if you take my physical age and my mental age and equalise them, I'm in the safe zone.
Classes drag, but it gives me time to consider what I'm going to do since I can do all the work on autopilot. I forgot how much easier school was to university, the assignments seem so laughably small.
A thousand words due next week? Is that all? Are you sure it doesn't have to be fifty thousand words with seven hundred credited sources, due three days ago?
Still, it's not all a cakewalk. History for one, this world is different from mine so I can't just rely on my memories. Plus, one of the assignments is about the effect Endbringers have had on global trade, still, it should be an interesting subject to research-
Oh god, that's a nerdy sentence.
As classes come to an end, I take some time to look up the public transport situation to get home, Angela let me know she was busy at work so I need to make my own way home.
Fortunately, there is a bus that goes from the school to one street away from where I live, so it's easy enough to get home without any fuss.
I doubt it'd be so painless if I was going to Winslow.
Speaking of Winslow, I think I'm going to stop the locker incident from ever happening because I can't rely on Taylor saving the world, so why leave her to get partially eaten alive by bugs in the first place?
Of course, I'll need a reason to be in Winslow, so I have a week to work that out. Maybe I should just shapeshift into someone else and shove Emma into the locker instead, see how she likes it.
I won't, obviously, but it's tempting.
That said, maybe I could get some justice for Taylor using my shapeshifting… I want to be a hero, but I'm not above some morally grey vigilante justice. Emma would find it harder to bully Taylor if she was going through a little reputation crisis. Something to consider.
If nothing else… It would be funny.
Heading into the house, I head for my bedroom ensuite and check myself out in the mirror, my features shifting.
I've always been told I'm 'cute', but my cape identity will be more handsome, with striking features to counter my softer ones.
I'm staying the same age, roughly even if I add a year or two onto my cape identity, my hair going chocolate brown and my eyes turning a striking gold. For the finishing touch, I give myself pointed Elven ears, to embrace the 'magical' persona I'm going for.
My clothes shift as well, I'm not going for a robe since it'd be too inconvenient but the velvety blue outfit with various 'armoured' leather pieces, such as a single pauldron over my left shoulder and my bracers and boots, gives me a decidedly fantasy adventurer look.
To be perfectly honest, I look like the character art I had done for my first DnD character, a half-elf wizard, only younger, and most importantly…
I don't look like Solomon White.
Switching my appearance back and forth, I make sure I can do it smoothly and accurately each time before I take a breath.
I should probably wait to talk to Mercy before I set out for my first patrol, but if I stay around the downtown/boardwalk area I should be fine because that's where the PRT patrol most of the time.
I want to establish myself as a hero as soon as possible, and Angela is apparently being swamped at work because she's a doctor in Brockton Bay.
Still, as I do a little online research on the cape and gang situation of this place, no need to go into things blind after all.
…so, some quick questions.
Who the fuck are the Sons of Samedi?
Why are there several Asian gangs instead of just the ABB?
Where is Kaiser and who is Iron Rain?
Ah, right.
Past Sol, I'm going to summon something capable of time travel and then kick you in the dick, it's just a little AU it'll be fine.
Fucking moron.
Author's Note: Yup, it's another Worm story. Discord is a bad influence and encourages me to let my whimsical muse do what she wants.
I am entirely motivated by praise and interaction, so leave a review and I'll probably write faster.
I have a discord server (technically someone else's but my name is on the server so it's basically mine) with a bunch of other authors and a load of porn. Here's the link for that: discord .gg/wd3tUYWVCd
If it says it's expired, add me (ThePumpkinKing) and I'll invite you myself.
I've finally started to use my Pat Reon for something, mostly I've just added some discord integration so that my Pat Reons can read early previews of chapters. This won't affect regular posting, but if you wanna read my works a day or two early then consider checking it out

Chapter 02: Starting Out Small
Okay, so the AU isa little more alternate than I originally expected, but this isn't the end of the world.
Firstly, the merchants don't exist, but they have an equivalent, a gang from the Caribbean with a massive focus on drugs. The Sons of Samedi seem considerably more competent than the Merchants, and there's no mention of Skidmark at all.
The Sons in Brockton were by a man called 'Mr. Sunshine', a cape with a love of mutilating people, but the larger gang is controlled by someone predictably called Baron Samedi.
Secondly, Kaiser doesn't exist because Max Anders was killed in a bombing years ago, along with his father. Only his sister, Eleanor Anders survived and now controls Medhall and likely the Empire.
Iron Rain is brutal- I get the feeling she truly buys into the Empire rhetoric- and they apparently have a very close relationship with Gesellschaft.
The ABB exists, but so does the Ronin. Apparently the Ronin was formed of the various Yakuza gangs uniting after Leviathan's attack on Kyushu.
Lung failed to take down the Ronin, apparently fought to a standstill by the Ronin's capes and the arrival of the Protectorate and their hero Solarflare, who I'm almost sure is Purity.
The ABB are up to their usual bullshit, but the Ronin seem more focused on casinos and protection rackets. They're actually fairly popular among the Japanese immigrants, legal and otherwise.
Naturally, the ABB and Ronin despise each other. Lung rules Chinatown despite being half-Japanese himself (turns out being able to simply burn anyone who disagrees alive quietens most dissenters), while the Ronin have carved out a Little Japan in Brockton Bay and defend it brutally.
There's also the Deckers, but they're odd. They're entirely a cybergang of hackers, with no real presence on the street, but they're apparently menaces when it comes to cybercrimes and blackmail. If they have any capes, it's not clear, because nobody even knows who leads them.
And finally, the Westside Rollerz. Yes, with a Z.
They're teenage idiots. Literally, a gang of street racers and adrenaline junkies, normally just being menaces around the Boardwalk and richer residential areas, since half of them are rich kids playing gangster.
Street racing, illegal car mods, grand theft auto, and rumours of an underground fight club.
They're seen as more or less harmless, as long as you don't leave a nice car unattended and avoid the races. Also, they have a tinker named Overdrive, who I'm almost sure is Squealer. She's apparently amazing with anything that moves (from monster trucks to helicopters and everything in between), and the best racer the Westside Rollerz have by far.
So, not the Brockton Bay I was expecting, but I can work with this, drawing out a map as I make a note of the different territories.
One interesting note, Coil, and the complete lack of any mention of him or the Undersiders. Thomas Calvert doesn't bring anything up either.
I absolutely do not believe he doesn't exist, but I have no idea where to start looking.
Basically, Brockton is still a complete and utter shithole, but honestly, this works in my favour somewhat, as the Empire and ABB seem a bit weaker than canon due to the infighting between the expanded gangs. I planned to start with the Merchants, which obviously isn't an option, and the Sons seem considerably more dangerous.
I think my current plan is still a decent one, if I stick to the areas often patrolled by the Protectorate, I shouldn't run into any capes, but Brockton Bay has a very high crime rate even in the nicer areas.
I've checked where the Wards usually patrol, and while avoiding them might be good for trying to keep my identity a secret, it's also a wise decision to stick to those areas since crime tends to be less serious.
They don't send Wards to places where they're expecting serious cape battles, even in Brockton Bay.
Dean will definitely recognise me if he meets me as Gallant, thanks to his emotion sensing bullshit, but the unwritten rules should keep his mouth shut, so it's less of a risk than going into the more dangerous parts of the city.
If he decides to spill my identity? Well, hero or not, I can be extremely petty when I'm wronged, and I also happen to know the identities of almost every single cape in the city.
Finishing my research, I finally set out, looking like Solomon, since I don't want my cape identity to be seen near my house. It's starting to get dark, so few people are around as I slip out of the backdoor.
Staying to the back of the houses, I move a fair distance from my house before I find somewhere private to shift into my cape identity.
When I have more points, I'll need to get a better way to get in and out of my house since I don't want anyone trailing me home.
It's not that hard, there's some cameras around the suburbs we live in (which I try to avoid), but there's quite a bit of foliage around, including a small park probably a couple of miles away from my home.
Some teenagers is hanging out at a small playground area, smoking, from what I can tell, but they don't notice me in the dimly lit park as I change into my cape persona in some bushes.
With a (completely unnecessary) click of my fingers, a thick leather-bound book appears in my hand, opening and flicking through the pages with a wave of my other hand.
I took this method of summoning to fit with the image I want, but in truth it's completely cosmetic. I could conjure any of my summons with a thought, even as the book opens to a specific page.
The image of a large black bird, similar to an ostrich in shape but with much nicer feathers and more importantly wings.
I'm far away enough from the teens to be willing to summon my mount here, holding a hand over the page as the image starts to move and leaps from the parchment, shifting and growing as it takes form.
The painted image shifts from 2D to 3D as my power does its work, and in an instant I'm standing before a nine foot tall chocobo, the massive avian cooing quietly as she understands the need for us to be quiet right now, butting her head against mine gently.
On her back is a fancy leather saddle, the last item I bought with my starter money.
[Saddle of the Chocobo Knight]
This enchanted saddle grants the Chocobo it is placed upon both greater resistance to attacks and increased speed.
My (currently) unnamed Chocobo lowers herself, sensing my intentions, allowing me to easily mount her, and with a short run she stretches her wings and we take to the skies.
It's already dark, and a pitch-black chocobo doesn't exactly stand out against the night sky but I'd be very surprised if nobody saw us.
My girl is fast, as we fly towards the city proper, and I can't deny I'm slightly nervous as I head out for my first patrol.
That said, I can't stop myself from laughing as we fly through the sky, briefly stretching my arms out as the wind blows into my face, a grin on my lips. Knowing I have powers and actually using them is two very different things, and flying is fun.
Arriving in the downtown area, close to the boardwalk, I get ready to summon something to help me scout for problems that need solving before Brockton Bay proves itself a shithole, a loud crash drawing my attention.
Dude, I just got here.
Still, it didn't sound like a gunshot or explosion, so I can at least do a flyover and see what I'm dealing with.
— Victoria Dallon (Glory Girl) —
Flying down, she stared at the shitshow below her with a long-suffering sigh, several cars piled up in a heap of twisted metal.
She didn't even need to check for the details to know who was to blame for this, spotting the car that looked the worst, heavily modified with several decals.
The fucking Westside Rollerz.
With a Z.
Ugh.
Stupid rich kids who thought driving through busy areas at triple the speed limit was a good idea.
One of the cars had ended up upside down, so she started there as she picked it up and flew it some distance away from the others. A fire had started and she didn't have much time, she could hear screams for help from the other two cars (including a squeaky voice coming from the fancy car that was almost definitely responsible).
Tearing off the crumpled door, she looked inside at the unconscious woman at the wheel, seeing nobody else inside she snapped the seatbelt and picked the woman out of the heavily damaged car, flying her to the sidewalk and laying her down flat.
She didn't respond or wake up, but she had a pulse. Amy had been called to a different accident further uptown so someone had better have called an ambulance.
As she turned to the two burning cars, she paused as she heard a strange sound, watching as the flames started moving unnaturally before they all flew in a specific direction.
Turning to follow them, she spotted a humanoid figure floating a couple of feet off the ground just a small distance from the fire, arm extended as she (and it definitely was a she) absorbed the flames into herself.
A figure made of fire, partially enclosed in what seemed like black volcanic rock, shaped to be 'clothes' for the figure as it just floated there calmly.
It was kinda sexy, which made her blink and shake her head. Focus, Vicky. That said, she couldn't really be blamed when the rock had taken the shape of a pair of panties and a corset, leaving most of the fiery body on display.
Its face didn't have any details, but the rock had formed to make its lower mouth, stony lips unmoving, the rocks curving backwards to give the female figure two large horns.
A new cape?
Still, she focused on the situation as she flew to the second car, leaving the racer until last as the fiery figure watched her impassively, the cars had gotten almost melded together from the crash but both people inside were still conscious so she just tore the car door off again, helping the man since his leg looked fucked, the woman able to get out herself, shaken but otherwise unharmed.
And finally, the fucking idiot who caused this mess, now crying and begging for help as she reluctantly moved over to him and simply tore the roof from his fancy car.
The moment she did, her eyes widened at the sight of the bloody mess in front of her, some of the metal from the crash having stabbed into the boy's stomach, his skin paling.
Extracting him from the wreckage wasn't hard, her strength easily enough to pull the metal apart and free him from the prison he made with his stupidity.
He didn't look much older than her, and she'd seen enough wounds to know he wasn't going to survive, his intestines visible as she placed him down away from the cars.
Amy would be able to save him, but Amy wasn't here and Vicky didn't know where she was right now anyway, and Amy wouldn't have her phone on while she was working.
She heard someone shouting for her to get her sister, as if Amy was just hiding around the corner of every incident waiting to save the day.
If Amy gave up school and sleeping, she'd still be unable to show up at a quarter of the emergencies in this shitty city.
She'd almost forgotten about the fiery woman as she tried to work out what to do, she hadn't exactly needed a first aid course with Amy around, but she wasn't so distracted that she didn't hear the strange caw from above.
Looking up, her eyes widened as a large black bird flew down, its outline almost invisible against the night sky.
Landing between her and the still motionless fiery figure, her eyes locking to the teenager sitting on its back, in a saddle no less as he dismounted.
He looked like he'd just walked out of a fantasy game, pointed ears and some leather armoured pieces over some expensive looking clothes, watching as he patted the avian creatures head gently and started walking towards them.
He was entirely out of place, golden eyes looking from her to the injured people, but her eyes were drawn to the large leather-bound tome in a custom holster at his waist.
Her lips twitched despite the serious situation, wondering if that was his spellbook.
Her humour faded as he picked it up, opening it as the fiery being was absorbed into the tome, she was barely able to see the pages but she noticed a drawing of the same fiery creature appear on the page.
A projection-type master?
That'd explain the giant chicken.
"Thanks for the help. I had this but the fires were a problem," Vicky said. Villains didn't go around putting out fires, so he was probably a new hero.
"It was my pleasure, but let's wait until a less dire time to exchange pleasantries," the teen said, his voice rather grandiose with an accent she couldn't place. "Come forth, Carbuncle, I have need of your services once more."
The pages flipped rapidly, landing on one as he held his hand over the book, a light flying from the page and towards his hand, which he directed at the ground, taking form into another weird creature.
Undeniably cute, she watched as the light reformed into the shape of a strange mix between a fox and a rabbit, a fox-like body with bright blue fur and large rabbit-like ears.
It had a red patch on its forehead, until she looked closer and her eyes widened, realising the patch was a large gem embedded into the creature's head, three large tails swishing as 'Carbuncle' looked up at its summoner and yipped (very adorably).
"Carbuncle, work your magic," the teen said, reaching down and patting its head as the creature yipped again.
As it crept towards the injured people, she tensed up for a moment, but the gem on its head started to glow brightly and with a howl it pulsed with crimson light.
Immediately the results became apparent, the racer gasping as his brutal wounds closed up, the unconscious woman gasping and the man with the fucked up leg hissing in surprise before he touched his leg, the torn jeans revealing pristine flesh beneath it.
A healing projection?
Carbuncle, she was unsure whether that was its name or race, yipped happily as it scurried back to its summoner and with surprising grace climbed up his body and perched itself on his shoulder, yipping one last time as he reached up and stroked its furry ears.
"Is that everyone?" the new cape asked, making her nod.
"Yeah. I haven't seen you around before. Are you new here?" Vicky asked, making him nod.
"It's my first patrol," he admitted, opening his book again as the Carbuncle jumped into it.
"A good start," Vicky praised, catching something out of the corner of her eye, flying quickly and grabbing the dumb asshole who caused this crash as he tried to slip away. "Oh no, you're not getting away from this."
With her aura at full blast, she glared at the idiot as he cowered, before she reigned it in and went to apologise to her new friend, her mother's scolding words about blasting new capes with her aura echoing in her head.
As she turned to him, she paused as she spotted how calm he looked, his giant bird having come over to him and nudged him with its head affectionately.
"I take it he caused this particular mess?" the man asked, making her nod in annoyance.
"Just another Westside Rollerz moron who thinks the busy city streets are a race track," Vicky sighed.
"Ah, my research said the Westside Rollerz were more-or-less harmless," he admitted, making her scoff.
"I wish. They might not be malicious but they are still a problem. Car crashes have increased fivefold since these idiots formed," Vicky said, giving the squirming idiot a glare. "Because Brockton Bay didn't have enough issues."
"I see, at least nobody was lost this time, what happens now?" he asked.
"I call the non-emergency line, and someone from the BBPD comes and picks this idiot up," Vicky explained, scoffing mentally as she added 'then his rich daddy pays off the judge and he gets a slap on the wrist'.
"Ah, I see. I should look into that line myself, honestly I should have done a lot more research before I set out," he admitted, before shaking his head. "But look at me, all these questions and I haven't even introduced myself. I am Azuth, a summoner in training, no introductions are needed for you, of course."
Azuth? Odd name, but then she frequently spent time with Clockblocker so what did she know?
His second comment stroked her ego and made her grin at the fancy teenage boy, before pausing.
But this was one of the times she didn't match the dumb blonde stereotype as something clicked in the back of her mind.
"So, honest answer, how much DnD did you play growing up, Azuth, Lord of Spells," Vicky asked, his eyes briefly widening as she giggled. "I'm right, aren't I?"
"Let's just say a lot, and leave it at that," Azuth replied, making her giggle as she sent the message to the non-emergency line. She hadn't missed the way his grandiose tone lessened to a more normal cadence, giving her a grin.
Azuth, patron of wizards. One of the gods in Dungeons and Dragons. Crystal got her and Amy to play a campaign a while back, and her Arcana Cleric was a follower of Mystra. The name came up, and it was so unique it stood out to her to hear it again.
Amy played a barbarian, and it had taken a lot of work to get Amy to take the time off.
You weren't supposed to name yourself after gods, something she got scolded for after she tried to pick Nike, the Greek goddess of Victory (even without the copyright problems thanks to a fucking shoe brand), but that probably didn't include the gods of a fantasy game.
God, Nike would have worked so well for her, the Roman equivalent was Victoria damnit. Stupid trainers, she was forever an Adidas wearer out of sheer spite.
Giving his entire fit another look, she held in her giggles. He did look like he was a wizard about to set off on an adventure.
Curiously, he didn't have a mask at all, handsome features on full display for the world to see.
"So, how are you liking Brockton Bay? You don't sound local," Vicky asked, pausing as she reached forwards and gently patted the large bird on the head, making it caw softly and push its head further against her hand.
"It's… certainly interesting," Azuth said with a polite tone, making her snort. Yeah, interesting was about the nicest way to describe things.
"That's a word for it, yeah. Oh, you should probably register with the PRT as an independent hero, it'll make things a lot easier if you don't want to join the Wards," Vicky suggested, knowing full well Piggot would be frothing at the mouth at the word 'master' even before projection could be added to it.
"Perhaps, we shall see in time," Azuth said imperiously. Oh he was definitely playing his character. Typical overdramatic wizard players.
Still, he gave her a little grin, and she realised he was just having fun. She remembered her first patrol well enough, she didn't blame him.
The glamour hadn't worn off yet, she gave it a week.
That wasn't to say she didn't enjoy being a hero, just that this job was rarely fun.
They chatted a bit as they waited, not about anything of substance, but just killing time before someone arrived.
She did learn that his mount was called a Chocobo, but she was half convinced he was just making up weird enough sounding names and calling it a day.
Not a police van, but a bike, which made her frown as she watched it approach, relaxing when she spotted the military fatigues-clad woman on the back of it.
"Hey, Miss M," Vicky said with a wave. "What brings you here?"
"Glory Girl, a pleasure as always. I was in the area, dealing with some Sons, when I heard the noise. Figured I'd check it out, but it looks like things are well in hand here," Miss Militia said, though Vicky didn't quite believe her, as the older woman's eyes flickered first to Azuth and then to the large bird he was sitting on, his mount having sat down itself so he could use it as a chair.
"Yup, just a typical Westside fuck-up," Vicky snorted, lightly kicking the Roller sat at her feet. He seemed to accept he wasn't getting out of this, and unfortunately his phone was destroyed in the crash, so he couldn't call daddy to come save him. "This is Azuth, he's a new hero. Az, this is Miss Militia, one of the local PRT heroes."
He gave her an odd look at her shortening of his name, but didn't comment on it beyond that.
"Yes, I thought I recognised her. It's a pleasure to meet you," Az said with a light bow. "As Glory Girl said, I'm new to the cape scene, but I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of each other."
"Interesting name, it's nice to meet you Azuth," Miss Militia said, smiling at Az (only noticeable by the way her eyes crinkled due to the flag-face mask she was wearing). "You're independent then?"
"I am, Glory Girl has already suggested I register as an independent hero, but we shall see where the dice fall," Azuth explained.
"Have you given any thought to joining the Wards, assuming you're under eighteen," Miss Militia said, somewhat questioningly as she gave him another look.
"I am, and I have, but for now at least I intend to walk my own path, for better or for worse. We shall see where it leads," Azzy declared, the drama queen that he was. "It was an honour to meet two veteran heroes, but my work here is done," Az said, spotting the police van approaching as his ride rose to its full height. "Farewell."
Before Miss Militia could even speak, the Chocobo started running and took to the air, taking flight and vanishing into the night sky.
As she turned back to Miss Militia, she knew she was in for one hell of a questioning, sighing and wishing she'd followed Azzy's lead and just flown off as well.
— Solomon White (Azuth) —
Okay, Glory Girl plays DnD. You learn something new everyday.
Yes, I stole the name of a Faerûn deity, I was going to go for Oghma (god of knowledge) but it didn't roll off the tongue as well.
Okay, neither does Azuth but I like it.
Landing on a rooftop, I give myself a pat on the back, I gained points for both my first patrol and saving lives today, and on a whim I decide to spoil myself as I open the mental menu to my 'store'.
It's a slight waste to be honest, but with a smile I buy a cheap bundle in celebration of my victory.
[Food and Drinks of the Elder Scrolls]
My book glows as a menu section is added, making me grin as I open it up and make my selections.
It doesn't give me potions or ingredients, those are much more expensive, but pretty much all the food and drink of Skyrim is now available, and they're classed as consumables, so they come back over time.
With a sweet roll, a jazbay crostata, and a mug of spiced wine (if I'm old enough to patrol I'm old enough to drink, and who's going to stop me? I'm old enough to drink mentally so who cares) I've got a nice little spread to relax with, so I sit upon my perch and smile as I look over the city, munching my snack.
I also feed my mount and healer of course. They don't need it, but my chocobo happily eats a snowberry crostata, and my carbuncle some vegetables, since they're both herbivores.
My fire elemental, which I gave the form of the Flame Atronach for… important reasons, doesn't eat.
A good start, but only a start all the same.
…also, it turns out I don't like wine, but Honningbrew mead is pretty nice. Black-briar mead tastes like piss.
Hm.
Hey, if nothing else I have effectively infinite booze. That's gotta count for something.
— Bonus Scene — Emily Piggot
It was her worst nightmare, right in the city she was tasked with trying to keep safe.
A fucking healing master who summoned monsters, just fucking great.
Almost every healing cape had massive downsides. Panacea was the best, since the only known downside was dealing with Brandish (not that she trusted Panacea's healing either) and now some new cape was running around doing whatever he wanted without so much as a by-your-leave.
And nothing aroused her suspicions harder than a cape who could make monsters, projections or otherwise.
She would not have another fucking Goblin King, in her city
The fact that he was a master only made matters worse, sure he wasn't the 'make you tear out your children's throats with your teeth' type of master that they knew of, but Masters were almost always trouble.
And on top of this festering shitshow, all that power was in the hands of a teenage boy wandering around without a mask, just screaming to the gangs 'hey come and kidnap me'.
She wouldn't trust a teenage boy to be responsible for a fucking pet rock, and this one had at least three pet monsters!
Her implant warned her that her heart rate was too high, making her take several deep breaths, thankful for the advances in medical technology that Dr Ziegler had made. She absolutely refused to let a cape try and 'heal' her, but thankfully some people out there were still looking to prove regular humans weren't obsolete, unlike others.
'Why bother looking for an expensive solution for a problem Panacea could fix in a minute', fucking morons.
Back to the topic at hand, what the fuck was she supposed to do about this Azuth?
At the very least, the absolute bare minimum, they needed to drag his ass in for power testing before it turned out his healing caused people to grow an extra spleen or something equally bizarre, and more importantly didn't master the recipient, because a 'healing master' was the least encouraging phrase she'd heard since 'military-grade'.
If, and it was a big if, his healing wasn't going to turn people into monsters, and didn't make them his obedient mindless slaves, she wanted his ass in the Wards where they could make sure he wasn't going to accidentally summon a giant monster that would burn down the city for fun.
She wasn't having two independent healers that they would end up owing a million favours to, when they had to go on hands and knees and beg for healing so they could get their capes back in the fight and not be overwhelmed.
And then finally she'd need to fight off the other PRT divisions who would come around like the vultures they were, she could already hear the bastards.
"Oh you don't need your own healer, Panacea is right there."
But first, before any of that, they needed to drag the little bastard in for power testing, and they needed it yesterday.
And just to prove her day could in fact get worse, her phone rang and a particular name appeared on the screen.
Oh great, what did Costa-Brown want?

Brockton Bay continues to prove it is the cape capital of the world, with yet another cape debut. Thankfully it seems we've got a hero this time, going by the name Azuth (allegedly named after a fictional deity from Dungeons and Dragons)
[Azuth .png]
Azuth is a master (calm down) who can 'summon' projections in the form of various creatures with different powers, such as a large birdlike creature he uses for transport, a being made of fire that seems to be able to control flames beyond its own, and most importantly, a small blue fox capable of healing
[BirdinFlight .png] [FireElemental .png] [HealingFox .png]
You heard me right, the gem on the head of the fox started glowing and simultaneously healed three injured people (one gravely), its name is apparently 'Carbuncle'. Whatever that means.
He assisted Glory Girl after a car crash caused by a Westside Roller, healing those injured and putting out the fires. He hasn't been seen since, flying away after a short conversation with Miss Militia.
An account named AzuthTheWise was created last night, though it hasn't posted anything yet. Given that it was made before his debut, we can reasonably assume it's the real deal.

Yup, that's Azzy.
Nice guy, a little odd but he seems like he's a good guy to have around.
His bird is called a Chocobo btw, it's a complete attention seeker and pouts when you stop stroking it, and its feathers are really soft.
Apparently these are just his first summons, not sure exactly what that means but I'm pretty sure he's either got or will get more.
I meant to get his number (for business not pleasure, keep your pants on shippers), but I totally forgot. hey, AzuthTheWise, is that actually you?

Another healer in the Bay?
Score, hey if we are gonna live in the biggest shithole in America, we should at least get some benefits for it
Cute creatures though

You could even say she's... hot
badumbtish
do you think Azuth is immune to the flames? did someone say burnt sausage?
maybe that's why he needs a healer

So this is why I got a text to check PHO?
Well, I won't say no to another healer in this place, there's always work to be done. Cute bird, cuter fox.
But I swear to god, if anyone asks me to heal burnt hands or other more sensitive locations in the future, you better have a very good reason for it or you might lose what makes you a man.

I'm sure I sound like a broken record since I say this on every cape debut thread, but I highly suggest you come in AzuthTheWise, at least to register as an independent and get access to the resources available to registered heroes (which increases your chances of surviving the next three months without being pressed into a gang by 23%) and to have your powers tested
I hate to be the killjoy but many powers have considerable downsides even when they seem benign at first (especially healing powers, I can think of seven different 'healers' who have or had significant side effects to their healing)
And of course, the Ward program is always open for any younger capes who require assistance, training or protection

and here comes the PRT trying to grab the newest healer lol
that didn't take long, do you just get paid to lurk on PHO?

Nah, I just have a surprising amount of downtime at work and like to keep up to date on events in the Cape scene, PHO is a surprisingly good source of info

Or he could join another group, one more effective at protecting Brockton Bay from undesirables than the ever-incompetent Protectorate
His skillset seems versatile and powerful, and there are many who would appreciate his skills far more than the PRT, who would no doubt place a hundred limitations on what he is allowed to do

Final Fantasy is a JRPG series, both Chocobo and Carbuncle came from it.
The company went under after Kyushu (quite literally, fuck you Leviathan), but their last game, FF7 had Chocobo racing in it, it was fucking amazing.
Carbuncle casts reflect, haste, protect, shell and warp in 6, wonder if Azuth's can do the same (also mad respect for a fellow wizard player)
funnily enough, it didn't heal in game but maybe he just took some creative liberties?
I will literally suck his dick to ride a black Chocobo, even if Golden Chocobo's are undeniably better

did we just get a heroic equivalent to Uber and Leet?

Guys, you realise if he gets more monsters it means he's a self-growth trump/projection-type master
oh god I hope he stays a hero because that's not a sentence that fills me with joy.
Laying on my bed, I close the page and scratch my chin as I look up something.
Leet is a chick, and so is Uber for that matter. I really should stop making assumptions, it's dangerous.
They aren't as notorious in this version of Worm, they're still villains but they tend to avoid actually hurting people during their streams and crimes.
Most people think it's less out of morality and more because if they're seen as mostly harmless pests, they get Wards sent after them instead of the actual Protectorate capes.
The fact that my monsters got recognised isn't the end of the world. I don't mind getting a solid reputation as a big fucking nerd.
Huh, Final Fantasy stopped with 6 thanks to that fucking lizard Leviathan. That kinda sucks. Earth Bet never got FF7, this truly is the worst world.
I do need to pay attention to whether something I want to summon actually exists as media in this world in the future, but being seen as a nerd isn't a bad thing.
That said, my brief foray into heroism has taught me something. I'm doing this wrong.
I've stopped two muggings and a break-in since I met with Glory Girl, but the points income is… slow.
And it's because I'm not using my system right, even if I'm not necessarily using it wrong either.
Basically, as the Game Master, I'm the GM of this world, limited in power as I may be. What I'm doing is playing as a GMPC.
My summons are really supposed to be for encounters, I'm using them for combat. It's not a terrible idea, and I don't plan to stop, but if I truly want to earn the points I need to put a stop to the Endbringers and Scion, I need to actually act like a GM.
I can grant people blessings, power upgrades and a whole host of other fun things for my 'players'. I can spend GM points to upgrade or modify any power as long as I have the Cape's permission, I can grant entirely new powers, though my current selection is small.
I could make someone a Kryptonian with enough points and access to the DC powers bundle, or any other power set out there in the multiverse.
And each person I turn into a 'player' becomes a passive source of GM points, so if I upgrade a cape then I get a sliver of points for every fight they get in.
So, I need to actually start making 'players', and I've thought about how to approach this particular situation.
Naturally, I chose the most dramatic plan I could come up with, which is almost certainly going to cause sheer chaos.
I considered making a new persona for my 'Game Master' duties to stop Azuth from being linked to a new Trump but after a while, I decided against it.
I can almost guarantee I'd mess up and blow my cover at some point, the more identities I have the more likely I'll fuck things up.
So, I'm going to reveal that Azuth is also a Trump and probably get put on several watchlists, mark myself for kidnapping by the gangs (again, I should find a method of recalling myself home), and generally get myself put at the top of the PRT's list.
Which list? Probably all of them at the same time, with my luck.
Is this smart? Absolutely not, but it could be profitable and isn't that better in the long run?
If I play it safe, I don't get enough points to stop Scion and fucking die. I need to take down Slaughterhouse Nine by the end of this year just to be sure that Jackie Slashie isn't going to ruin everything.
Yes, I double-checked that Jack Slash was still a thing, seems like the same nine I was used to. Also, I want to kill them before they go for Mouse Protector because she's one of the few 'fun' heroes around and this world needs all the joy it can get.
Once I prove that I can empower people, I'll be in extremely high demand and by playing the role of the eccentric wizard I can send people on 'quests' to gain my boons because giving quests is another good source of points. It's a high-risk, higher-reward situation.
So, how do I start this shitshow?
Like all good things that nerds do on the internet.
PHO gets a lot of attention, it's not unusual to see capes on both sides of the law commenting on posts, so if I should be able to get the word out, I just need to make sure that I word this right.
…and get a new phone for Azuth, given that the Deckers exist, and I can't guarantee they won't break the unwritten rules and trace me.
I don't even want to leave a trace with a purchase, but once more my ability to summon shit pays off, even if it's costly.
I have some points I saved during the character creation and gained a few while I was out on patrol, so it's not the end of the world. My plan will blow through what points I have left, but you need to spend points to earn points, it's a necessary expenditure to make myself known.
I wish them the best of luck in hacking into an Omnitool. Mass Effect technology is a little more advanced than they're used to, and the Omnitool alone isn't a massive setback.. A simple cybersecurity VI should keep the fuckers out of my things.
And hey, maybe I'll get a Tinker rating. Get all twelve and win a special prize.
First, I need to message Tin_Mommy and ask Worm's arguably best girl to verify my account, and then I make my declaration and draw a massive amount of attention my way.
Equipping my Omnitool, I easily connect to the primitive internet and get to work, preparing for the chaos that this will almost certainly cause. It's for the greater good, but I'm not so naive as to think I can stop Scion with clean hands.

Salutations, Heroes, Rogues and VIllains alike.
I Azuth, Lord of Spells and Master of Games, am here to invite two lucky capes to take part in the first of many games, to fight for the most glorious of prizes, power.
At 5 p.m. on Wednesday the 6th of January, at the location specified in the image below, I will be hosting the first of my games where two lucky contestants will be selected to do battle, the winner gaining my boon.
[map .png]
Why would you wish for my boon, you ask? Because you desire power, as all capes do. Hero, rogue, and villain alike. The winner may choose one of the boons listed below and I will grant it to them.
Lesser Boons
[Beast Speech]
The ability to speak with animals (it's rather self-explanatory)
[Blank]
The power to thwart thinkers and masters, hiding you from their powers and influence
[Devil's Sight]
See through even the blackest darkness as if it were a bright summer day
[Gift of the Depths]
The ability to breathe underwater, and swim with the greatest of ease, become the fish you were always meant to be.
[Fey Touched]
With the magic of the fey, you may teleport a short distance with Misty Step and gain an extra spell of my choosing, either from the Enchantment or Divination school
[Master of Myriad Forms]
Alter your own appearance at will, appear as anyone or take on bestial traits to enhance your prowess
[Shadow Touched]
With the Shadowfell's magic, you will be able to turn invisible and will gain another spell of my choosing, either from the Illusion or Necromancy school
[Telekinetic]
The power to move things with your mind, though limited at the start. It will grow as you train with it.
I can also work my magic upon your existing power, granting it a boost or entirely new uses, but that would be on a case-by-case basis as every power is different and some are rather ornery. Worry not, I cannot modify powers without the permission of the cape who possesses them.
I realise my words may seem unbelievable, but I assure you that I am entirely capable of doing exactly what I have claimed. Your mistrust is well-placed, but a wizard is only worth as much as his word and I would not start my task in this place by proving myself untrustworthy
So I invite any who wish for such a boon to join my game, whether hero, villain or something in between, all are welcome.
I expect a small measure of decorum amongst hopeful competitors, and I'd like the park to still be standing at the end of the day. It's one of the few nice things in Brockton Bay and I'd like to keep it that way.
For those who aren't lucky enough to take part in this admittedly limited game, worry not. This is only the first game of many, and the prizes will only grow with time.

I genuinely can't tell whether this is serious or not, but at the very least it's definitely Azuth himself.
The map leads to a park near the downtown section of the city, right in the middle of it.
If Azuth is being serious, he's a pretty serious Trump-cape.

Heroes and villains, alike?
It's odd that he'd invite villains to his 'games', given Azuth was playing hero himself earlier
Blank is curious because we've had Thinkers on his Cape Debut thread claiming their powers don't work on him, did he give himself this 'boon'? If so, why hasn't he given himself every one of the boons he claims he can grant? And why would he want people to fight for this boon?
He also almost certainly gave himself the Master of Myriad Forms which would explain his elven appearance and his lack of a mask.
He called these 'lesser' boons but that means he can also grant larger rewards, so why not start with them to truly stir up interest in his 'games'? (not that his declaration isn't going to draw a lot of attention anyway')
There has to be some kind of limitation on his power.

Ah, sweet Sveta, what a cruel hand you were dealt.
You wish to know whether I could alter your cursed power and the power of other Case 53s? Naturally, I can free you from your accursed form or simply grant you the control you lack, however, such an undertaking would be expensive, to say the least, though not in the wealth of mortal men
I cannot grant such a large boon without a task first being completed- such are the rules I am bound to follow- not yet anyway.
You will get your chance at a normal life, Sveta, that much I swear.

Azuth, do you realise that you've just invited countless capes, many of which will be unstable villains to your little event?
If you can do what you claim then they'll never stop trying to hunt you down to kidnap you and monopolise your powers, if you can't you'll likely be hunted down and killed for lying.
You are playing a very dangerous game, and that's not even starting with the fact that your claim of being able to help Case 53s will have countless desperate 53s descending on the city hoping you will be their miracle cure.
If you can truly help the 53s, come into the PRT and work with us, you'll be able to do so much more than if you try on your own, with far smaller risks.

I do see myself as heroically inclined, but my goals are beyond the petty street fights.
I wish to empower the capes of the world to challenge the true threats, the three who will bring our end if they are not stopped, and their sleeping siblings. I have seen what is to come, and such labels as hero and villain will mean little when the world falls into chaos.
But I must start small- and I assure you this is small- before I can truly challenge our true enemy.
If things do not change, Earth Bet will not survive the coming cataclysm. This, I cannot allow.
If a villain wins, I will empower them as promised. A necessary evil, for the survival of our world.

Everything I have promised is a boon I can afford with my current points, Blank would normally be much more expensive but having a copy already makes it cheap enough. To be honest, I want to see if either Coil or Contessa take the bait when a hard counter to them is on offer as a reward.
At this point, I'm going all in on the risk to maximise the potential reward. To be honest, the more I've thought about it, the less I'm against potentially working with Cauldron.
I know, I know, they're the boogymen who are responsible for so many messes, but we have the same goals. Could I at least stop future Endbringers by letting them know that Eidolon's egotistical ass is creating them?
The true goal is stopping Scion, and Cauldron could be a means to an end. I'd like to be the big damn hero and save everyone without compromising my morality but… the fate of billions is relying on me, how many lives is my honour worth?
To quote one angry alien, 'Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honour matters. The silence is your answer.' Sure, I'm not fighting the Reapers but Scion might just be worse.
And I'm no Commander Shepard, I'm a nerd with very little idea what the fuck I'm doing. I'm so laughably out of my depth, and I don't have time to learn to swim in the deep end I've been yeeted into.
This world needs more heroes, that much is clear, and I see two ways to go about that, both of which need more points. Either I make more heroes, or I summon more. Empowering people and guiding them to become heroes in exchange for more power is the cheaper option than summoning permanent companions, but if I summon people then I can say for absolute sure that they are loyal and obedient.
But that's enough for tonight, it's already just a little past midnight and I do have school tomorrow. Angela hasn't got home yet. Apparently, Lung got into a fight with the Ronin which means Chinatown is currently on fire and the hospital is full of injured and burnt people.
– Emily Piggot –
Fate itself hated her, how else could this bullshit be explained?
Oh, it wasn't enough to have some monster-summoning teenager running around, now he had to reveal he was a fucking Trump and invite every villain in a hundred-mile radius to come to Brockton Bay and fight for his amusement.
Every Case 53 in the world would head this way if Azuth could do a fraction of what he said he could, every power-hungry villain and gang would descend upon her city, either to take part in future 'games' or to grab Azuth for themselves.
She had gone to bed worried about what Azuth would pull off, only to wake up and find her worst nightmares were woefully optimistic. Every gang in the city was sending at least someone, except the Deckers, but who the fuck knew what those assholes were doing.
Probably hacking into the national protectorate database, again, or syphoning 10% of her extremely limited funding just to prove they could. She was almost sure they had dirt on the Chief Director because nobody seemed even remotely interested in trying to deal with them.
Accord was sending someone, even the fucking Teeth were sending someone. Fuck, if it wasn't for the short timeframe she'd probably have members of every gang in America showing up in some random park in one of the few areas of the city the PRT had control of.
There was no controlling this, they were already laughably outnumbered, without a horde of villains and independents flooding her already overflowing city with more capes.
She didn't see any good ending to this absolute clusterfuck of a situation. Azuth empowered a villain, more villains descended on the city looking to kidnap or hire him. Azuth was full of shit, a cape brawl breaks out in the middle of a downtown park. Azuth empowers a hero, same shit as if he'd empowered a villain, only with a slightly stronger hero around. Azuth doesn't show up, another cape brawl followed by them tearing the city apart looking for him.
Azuth walked through her doors right now and offered to join the PRT and agree to any and all restrictions, a horde of villains and Case 53s descended on her city anyway.
The absolute best-case scenario still fucking sucked.
So, she had just over a day to work out how to deal with this impending catastrophe that a teenage cape who was playing wizard. Myrddin Jr. had whimsically lit a match and tossed it onto the powder keg that was Brockton Bay, with only a small note that he wanted people to have 'some decorum'.
She fucking hated teenagers.
Her phone rang again, and she didn't even need to look to know that the Chief Director was on the other end, glaring at it balefully at the phone.
She really hated her job sometimes.
– Solomon White –
Hmm, it appears that my message reached a few more people than I expected.
Checking the thread between classes, I wince at the ever-growing number of pages on the thread and the way my messages are blowing up. I wanted to make Azuth a known name before Winslow opens up next week, and I've certainly achieved that. I think I'll skip the patrol tonight.
Angela scolded me for being reckless, which is actually nice to see that she is capable of disagreeing with my decisions. I might want my companions to be obedient and loyal but an army of yes-men would serve as poor advisors.
'Yes, Solomon, inviting Bonesaw and Nilbog over for tea is a wonderful idea'.
I probably should have waited but I have a reason for my haste, if nothing changes then the Simurgh will attack Canberra next month. Even if something changes, we are due an attack any day now, and I intend to take part in it.
For that, I need to make a fortune in points and as fast as possible. I don't have time to wait around, time is a resource of which I have entirely too little. I need to get the ball rolling as soon as possible, the chaos I cause today will pay for itself in the future.
Besides, with a day's warning most civilians will know to avoid the park, so it'll be fine. God, I hope it'll be fine.
— Bonus Scene — Angela Ziegler (Mercy)
It had taken her only moments to realise why Solomon would do something so utterly reckless as to risk a superhuman brawl of such grand proportions.
He felt the weight of this world's fate on his shoulders, this was a death world and he was sure that he alone could save it from the destruction that this 'Scion' and the countless other threats would unleash upon it and predictably he wasn't taking it entirely well. No child should have such a responsibility.
Worst of all, he might just be right that he alone stood between this world and the impending apocalypse. This Protectorate was no Overwatch. Corruption, incompetence, red tape for miles, and all by design, if Sol's memories of Cauldron were to be believed, though he didn't know how much of his knowledge could be trusted.
He was willing to take reckless risks like this because he felt the need to rush towards an answer, convinced he alone could save the world. What was the risk of some capes getting hurt in a city with Panacea, when it could save millions in the future by helping him get set up faster?
In a way he reminded her of Moira, advancing the medical sciences through dangerous experiments, on herself and those around her, because she 'didn't feel entitled to patience',
Moira had gone off in the deep end after her experiments were shut down, though given that her favourite test subject was a rabbit she'd named 'Better Angela' perhaps she was never altogether there, she wouldn't watch Solomon throw himself into the abyss to stop Scion.
Fortunately, while reckless, he was a good man at heart, she could feel it through the bond she had with him. She'd not noticed Moira's descent into madness until it was too late, but she wouldn't make the same mistake again.
Sol needed guidance and camaraderie and in truth, she didn't think she was the right person for it. Not alone, at least, but then Solomon could in time summon the right people, to train with Jack, to learn patience with Zenyatta, or just to act like a normal teenager with Hana.
She would act as he wished for her to act, as his guardian, the caring aunt to nurture him, perhaps even his lover if he desired, his attraction to her clear through their bond. She wasn't averse to the idea, perhaps it was the bond but she was here to serve in whatever capacity he desired her in.
He was certainly right about one thing, this world needed more heroes.
Author's Note: Sol is a dramatic man, this is not good for Brockton Bay.
