Chapter 140: Just a Stray Dog Blocking the Road—Kill Him!
The Ancient Battlefield was a remnant of a space from primordial times.
It was said that countless ages ago, a titanic war had once erupted in this realm—so fierce it shattered the earth and tore space itself apart.
Though greatly diminished from its peak, this battlefield still dwarfed anything Lin Fan had seen before—far vaster than the Ancient Monument Space.
Within this battlefield lay countless treasures and the inheritances of ancient powerhouses.
Since the Hundred Empire War was moved to this site, every generation had seen lucky cultivators find untold fortunes and legacies, propelling them to greatness.
But for every victor, many more died anonymous deaths—their bones paving the road to someone else's glory.
…
In a certain section of the Ancient Battlefield, massive, barren stone peaks stood quietly.
Under the blazing sun, the rocks radiated scorching heat.
Buzz!
Suddenly, the space above one of the peaks twisted violently.
A pillar of light tore through the void, landing on the summit.
Moments later, the light faded, and five figures appeared—it was Lin Fan, Lin Dong, Mo Ling, Du Yun, and Man Shan, having just arrived from the Great Yan through the teleportation array.
As soon as Lin Fan's feet touched the ground, the dizziness from space travel faded, and his Yuan Power circulated smoothly—restoring him to peak condition in an instant.
The others also began restoring themselves, albeit at a slower pace.
"So this is the Ancient Battlefield?" Man Shan of the Barbarian King Sect grinned, his booming voice echoing across the stone peak.
Mo Ling nodded. "Yes. We're here."
"The Yuan energy here is insanely dense!" Lin Dong exclaimed as he took a deep breath.
Lin Fan smiled. "Compared to the Great Yan Dynasty, this place is on a whole other level. It's only natural that the Yuan energy here is much richer."
"Not only that, but it contains faint traces of Nirvana Qi. Even Manifestation Stage cultivators can refine Nirvana Pills from it."
Du Yun's eyes lit up. "Then our chances of breaking through to Nirvana Stage just went up!"
Mo Ling quickly added, "Based on my map, if we head north from here, we'll reach one of the gathering points."
"It's dangerous to travel the battlefield at night. Most avoid moving around after dark."
Lin Fan nodded. "Let's go."
No one objected. The group moved northward.
On the way, Mo Ling said,
"The Hundred Empire War is brutal. The moment we entered the battlefield, there was no going back."
"We'll be here a long time, facing enemies from across many empires."
"But if we stick together, our survival chances go up."
"I agree," Du Yun and Man Shan said at the same time. Being the weakest of the five, they were more than happy to stay with stronger allies.
Lin Dong looked to Lin Fan.
Lin Fan smiled. "I've got no problem teaming up. But Lin Dong and I might not always be with you, so just be aware of that."
He had no intention of dragging Mo Ling and the others everywhere—they'd slow him down. He'd lend a hand if he ran into them again, but that was it.
Mo Ling's smile didn't falter. "It's already generous of you to offer your support."
Du Yun and Man Shan nodded in agreement.
Lin Fan laughed. "You flatter me."
…
Half an hour later, the five finally arrived at their first gathering point—an ancient, weathered city.
To their surprise, the main gate was blocked by more than a dozen figures.
Behind them, a flag waved in the wind, bearing a golden sun emblem.
"Listen up!" one of the guards barked.
"This city is now under the control of the Sacred Light Empire. Anyone who wants to enter must pay ten Nirvana Pills!"
"This is a public gathering point! Who gave you the right to charge us?!" someone in the crowd protested.
A dark-skinned brute with blood-red earrings sneered in response.
He raised his arm—and three bloody corpses were thrown down from the wall.
"Anyone who defies us… will end up like them!"
The brute's voice was cold and dripping with murderous intent.
The watching crowd went silent. Many realized that the dead were all early Manifestation Stage experts.
Then, another voice echoed from within the city—deep, resonant like thunder.
"We don't want trouble. The fee is symbolic. With effort, you can make ten Nirvana Pills quickly."
A terrifying aura rolled out from the city's depths.
"Peak Manifestation Stage!"
Sensing the strength of that speaker, the unrest died down immediately.
Even Mo Ling, Du Yun, and Man Shan looked uneasy and turned toward Lin Fan.
Lin Dong frowned. "Brother Lin Fan… what now?"
Lin Fan chuckled.
"Just a stray dog blocking the road. Kill him."
With that, he stepped forward, heading straight for the city gates.
Lin Dong's eyes gleamed with fighting spirit and followed.
The others hesitated briefly—then quickly caught up.
"Stop! Where are your Nirvana Pills?!"
The dark-skinned brute stepped forward, extending his arm to block their path.
"If we don't want to pay?" Lin Fan raised an eyebrow.
"Then die!"
The brute roared and threw a punch straight at Lin Fan's head!
Everyone near the gates turned tense, all eyes locking on Lin Fan's group—
Their expressions full of expectation and shock.
