Chapter 49 - The Greedy Flender

At Shrek Academy, Dean Flender remained silent for a long time after reading the letter from Ning Fengzhi.

Two disciples from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan had joined, and they brought a large sponsorship fee. This was undoubtedly a good thing for the academy.

However, these two disciples were far from ordinary. Ning Rongrong was Ning Fengzhi's only daughter, and absolutely nothing could be allowed to happen to her. Though the letter said she could be trained and tempered, Flender knew full well that someone like her must never be harmed at Shrek.

As for the other student, Yang Xiong, Ning Fengzhi wrote that he should be treated as a regular student, though his martial soul was unique and his personal cultivation path should not be interfered with.

Flender was an old hand in the world of soul masters and could read between the lines. After asking Zhao Wuji about the entrance test, he realized that not only was Yang Xiong's martial soul strange, but even his physical strength was unusual. Clearly, this boy might be tied to some secrets within the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan.

What was even more telling was that, despite having many disciples, the clan only sent a boy and a girl, and with no accompanying guards. The intention was obvious

On the field, Yang Xiong felt his training was just starting to be effective after running more than ten laps around the village.

He soon heard the sound of a scuffle in the academy. Upon walking closer, he saw a chubby boy lying miserably on the ground, it was Ma Hongjun, and the person who'd taken him down was Xiao Wu.

Yang Xiong was speechless. Ma Hongjun had already been "taught a lesson" on his first day, and by Xiao Wu, no less. Disappointing.

Among the Shrek group, Ma Hongjun was the one Yang Xiong looked down on the most.

Ma Hongjun had the powerful Beast Martial Soul, Fire Phoenix, and a high innate soul power, his talent was exceptional. In terms of explosive force, he should theoretically be the strongest in the entire academy.

Unfortunately, he'd been led astray from a young age. Though he carried the "evil fire" of the Fire Phoenix, it wasn't impossible to manage. Yet Ma Hongjun chose to relieve it through sex, walking a completely misguided path.

With strong willpower and physical training from childhood, the evil fire could've been controlled, and perhaps even turned into strength. But Ma Hongjun had the worst mindset among the Shrek Seven Devils. Without the help of the cockscomb phoenix sunflower, he might have become the origin of evil soul masters.

After the scuffle, everyone headed to the dining hall. Yang Xiong frowned again. Soul masters needed a lot of energy to cultivate, and the plain food here wasn't suitable, especially for twelve-year-olds who were still growing.

At the cafeteria, all eight of the main Shrek students had gathered, even Oscar, who'd slept in. However, both Oscar and Ma Hongjun had their eyes on the pretty girls in the group.

Soon it was time for their first class. The students gathered on the training field, where a gloomy-looking middle-aged man stood. He looked to be around fifty, with a flat face and a slightly protruding chin. The square crystal glasses on his face made him look more like a shady businessman than a teacher.

Tang San and Xiao Wu were surprised. But after an introduction from Dai Mubai, they learned that this man was none other than the dean of Shrek Academy, ender. His martial soul was the Four-Eyed Owl, and he was a level 78 Soul Sage.

Once the group stood in a line, Flender nodded and said, "Not bad this year. We've got five more little monsters. I'm Flender, the dean of Shrek Academy. Welcome. Each of you will pay 100 gold soul coins in tuition."

"Mubai, explain the academy rules to them. Then go rest and get your bodies into top shape. Your first class will be tonight."

"Oscar, Ning Rongrong, step forward. You two are support-type soul masters. Do you know what's most important for support-type soul masters?"

Oscar and Ning Rongrong looked at each other, confused about what Flender meant.

Flender continued, "On the battlefield, support-type soul masters are targeted first. You must be able to protect yourselves before supporting your teammates. So the most important thing for you is survival. Now, go run 20 laps around the village and finish before noon. If you're late, you don't eat lunch."

Oscar sighed and started running. Ning Rongrong glanced around, sighed as well, and followed him.

At this point, Yang Xiong spoke up. "Dean, may I build a private dorm for myself? My personal cultivation may require special arrangements."

Flender's expression turned cold. "You all live together to build camaraderie and understand the hardships of soul masters. No special treatment."

Then Yang Xiong quickly recalled Flender's greedy nature and said, "Dean, I mean to sponsor the academy with 10,000 gold soul coins and help expand the dorms. That way, everyone can have more space."

Flender's eyes lit up but he coughed and said, "That's acceptable. Soul masters do need independent training environments. But besides donating 10,000 gold coins, you'll need to hire someone to build rooms for everyone. Go to the finance office to pay."

Yang Xiong nodded immediately. "Yes, Dean. I'll head into the village to hire builders."

Yang Xiong had always found it odd, considering how unique Tang San's cultivation was, especially with his secret Tang Sect techniques, how could he live with others without raising suspicion? Wouldn't others get curious?

Yang Xiong went to the finance office and paid 10,000 gold coins. He also gave another 500 gold soul coins to Teacher Li to handle the building work, figuring the finance office would know better how to manage the construction.

This Teacher Li was Li Yusong, the soul emperor with the Dragon Pattern Staff martial soul, and the one who handled admissions. He was a level 63 power-attack soul emperor.

The staff at Shrek Academy were all powerful:

- Dean Flender: Level 78 Soul Sage

- Vice Dean Zhao Wuji: Level 76 Soul Sage

- Teacher Shao Xing: Level 71 food-type Soul Sage, martial soul: Sugar Bean

- Teacher Li Yusong: Level 63 power-type Soul Emperor, martial soul: Dragon Pattern Staff

- Teacher Lu Qibin: Level 66 control-type Soul Emperor, martial soul: Star Chess

These four teachers were the ones who had overseen the four-part entrance exam. Flender clearly knew how to use people to their fullest.

After leaving the finance office, Yang Xiong went straight to Zhao Wuji. Zhao Wuji was in charge of combat training and had rich battle experience, only someone like him could push Yang Xiong hard enough to grow.

His body martial soul needed constant pressure and combat to become stronger. This was one of the reasons Yang Xiong had chosen to come to Shrek.
