Chapter 63 - Chapter 62

The great hall had been deserted for hours, but Evelyn couldn't sleep. She felt fidgety and so crept slowly along Ravenclaw's stone corridors, her footsteps soft on the floor. The torches were flickering nearly out, their flames sending soft sounds through the quiet air. She ought to have been with Damien in her room, but something was bothering her.

It was that intuition that led her to proceed toward the eastern side. She heard voices before she rounded the bend—low, muffled, and with a conspiratorial note that arrested her movement. Evelyn stood still, hidden in darkness.

"Fji gives power. And fire," a voice murmured. "Damien bears silently, and his Luna plays Alpha. Handsomer with power than with pride to lose."

A second voice, lower, colder. "I agree. My house will swear loyalty. In silence, for now. When the fires spread, no one will ask where we belong."
