Chapter 84 - Chapter 84: The Kuma's Past (Part 1)

"Hey, you haven't told me yet, why on earth are you asking about that man!" Jewelry Bonney asked Ace again.

However, because she now knew Ace's identity, her attitude had clearly softened.

"Why should I tell you?" Ace put away the newspaper, glanced at her, and said coldly, "I'm in a bad mood right now. Before I get angry, you'd better get out of my sight. I can't guarantee you'll walk away unharmed."

As Ace's words fell, the underlings who had followed Bonney immediately scattered. Only a few remained behind her, trembling.

Under the World Government's propaganda, Ace was seen as a ferocious pirate—his name alone could scare children into tears.

At this point, Jewelry Bonney had not yet officially begun her own journey as a Supernova, and naturally hadn't formed deep bonds with her current followers. Their loyalty hadn't been tested through hardships, so they weren't willing to risk their lives against a pirate like Ace. Thus, most chose to abandon her.

But Bonney paid no attention to those who fled. She stared hard at Ace, her expression conflicted, before she said firmly, "I have a very close relationship with that man. So I must know why you're asking about him."

"If you're planning to hurt him, then even if I have to risk my life, I'll stop you!" Bonney declared, eyes resolute.

"Oh?" Ace raised an eyebrow, intrigued by her resolve. "And what is your relationship with Bartholomew Kuma? Why are you willing to risk your life for him?"

"Because he's my father, you bastard!" Bonney yelled, biting her lip.

"You're... Kuma's daughter?" Ace was genuinely stunned. He never imagined that among the Eleven Supernovas of Luffy's era, the mysterious only female member—Jewelry Bonney—was actually Bartholomew Kuma's daughter.

"That's right. He might not even know I'm still alive... but I carry his blood," Bonney said with certainty.

Ace narrowed his eyes, piecing together what she said.

From what Ace knew, Kuma was once the king of the Sorbet Kingdom but suddenly gave up the throne and turned pirate. He had a cruel reputation and earned the nickname "Tyrant." Later, he became one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea—Shichibukai.

If Bonney's words were true, the pieces started to align.

In the original timeline, Sabo and several Revolutionary commanders had infiltrated Mary Geoise to rescue Kuma. Bonney also appeared there, disguised as an old woman—Kuma's mother, the former Queen Dowager of the Sorbet Kingdom. She cried when she saw him being used as a slave by the Celestial Dragons.

If she really was Kuma's daughter, everything made sense.

And if Ace wanted Kuma to join his crew, then the key might lie with the girl in front of him.

Having mentally confirmed Bonney's identity, Ace's attitude softened. He smiled, looked at the nervous Bonney, and said, "So you're Mr. Kuma's daughter. What a coincidence—he's one of the people I admire most. I came to the Sorbet Kingdom to learn more about him because I want him to join my crew."

"Will you tell me about him?" Ace asked kindly.

Bonney stared at him, trying to gauge if he was serious. When she saw sincerity in his eyes, she finally waved him over. "Follow me."

She took him to a bar, ordered her crew to leave, and led Ace to a quieter area in the back.

"Were you serious about that? You want... my father to be your crewmate?" Bonney asked intently.

"Absolutely. Mr. Kuma is a remarkable man. Even if I have to push myself to my limits, I will convince him to join us," Ace said without hesitation.

"Then how much do you really know about him?" Bonney pressed.

"Probably not as much as you do about his past," Ace replied. "But I may know more about his current situation than you. How about this—let's trade. You tell me about his past, and I'll tell you what I know about his present."

"Deal," Bonney nodded. She hesitated, then asked, "So where is he now?"

"I'm not certain," Ace replied. "But most likely, he's in the lab of Vegapunk—the World Government's chief scientist."

"Vegapunk's lab?" Bonney was startled. "Why would he be there?"

"Kuma is a Revolutionary Army officer now. I believe he made a secret deal with Vegapunk—perhaps to pass along the scientist's research to the Revolutionaries. A very dangerous deal."

"What..." Bonney's face went pale. She sat down, stunned. "So that's why... That's why he agreed to become a Warlord—to gain status and assist the Revolutionary Army from within..."

"Bonney, I've told you what I know. Now it's your turn," Ace said. "Why did Kuma give up being a king and become a pirate?"

Bonney bit her lip. Her eyes welled with tears.

"It was because of me. All of it—it was all because of me!"
