Chapter 11 - Meeting With Reginald

Chapter Eleven- Meeting With Reginald

Laura's POV

"Meet me at Smiley Cafe by 7am, your money is ready." I stared at the text I had sent to Reginald while impatiently waiting for him at the Cafe. It was past 7am, as a matter of fact, two hours had gone by, yet I had not seen a glimpse of Reginald. I was very unsure if Reginald would eventually come or not. He was so full of pride and that was why I felt slightly reluctant but at the same time, Reginald loved money a lot, that was exactly what drove him to prison in the first place.

His love for money made me remain in the cafe, impatiently waiting for him. I suddenly got a text from Detective Brooks asking that we meet. I and Brooks had exchanged contacts the day we met, just in case he needed to reach Kendrick or he had any questions to ask in relation to the mysterious bride.

"Hey, Laura. I get it if you are probably busy but can you spare me some of your time? I have something important to tell you." I felt curiosity wash over me. Now what could detective Brooks possibly want from me this time?

I ignored the text and sat for an extra thirty minutes waiting for Reginald to arrive. I eventually got tired of waiting for him, I rose to my feet with a grumbling stomach and a tired look. Just as I was about to step out of the cafe building, I gazed through the glass doors and my eyes landed on a familiar figure dressed in a black hoodie, slowly approaching the cafe.

My heart began to race in fear as I stared at Reginald slowly approaching me. He looked completely different from the last time I saw him. Reginald had gotten really thin and he had a lot of facial hair now. Honestly, he looked unkempt but what could I expect from someone who just got out of prison?

His presence irritated me. I shuddered in fear as he got closer to my table, although I do not think he had noticed me yet. I suddenly began to regret ever asking for a physical meetup with him. Perhaps I should have just wired the money to him and asked him to delete it but I had done the exact opposite.

The real reason why I wanted to meet Reginald was out of curiosity. I wanted to know why he had suddenly got out of prison and wanted to show up in my life to torment me. I mean, it had been years and we both had moved on with our separate lives, I never imagined I would have to cross paths with him and even if I had to, I had prayed to God that I would have the upper hand this time but unfortunately for me, once again I was stuck as a victim to Reginald.

A beeping noise from my phone startled me. I gazed at the screen and saw it was a text from Reginald. "Where the hell are you princess? I am at the cafe already."

I stared at his text and gulped a lump down my throat, I could still escape facing Reginald. The anxiety was slowly beginning to eat me up and I just wanted to go home. I sighed heavily and made a conclusion to sneak out of the Cafe without getting noticed. I picked up my bag and just as I was about to rise to my feet, I felt a hard tap on my shoulder. I choked out a small nervous cry, attracting the attention of everyone in the cafe.

I was startled, I turned around to gaze at the culprit and I realized it was no one other than Reginald. He had a smirk on his face. "Found you." I watched him say with so much excitement. I gulped a lump down my throat as we gazed at each other for a brief moment. I noticed everyone in the Cafe still had their eyes on us, I had to clear my throat and snap out of it immediately.

"Sorry." I mumbled to everyone, bowing my head at them in respect. That was enough to get them back to enjoying their food. I watched Reginald settle on the seat opposite mine. "Wow, I almost did not recognize you Laura, you have gotten so beautiful and sophisticated these past few years." Reginald's smile never faltered. I wanted to scoff and yell at him but I knew in this case, I had to remain composed because like I said earlier, he had the upper hand.

"You startled me." I pointed out. Reginald scoffed and rolled his eyes at me. "You were not answering my texts. That was my own way of reintroducing myself." Reginald responded in a bored tone.

"How did you even find me in the first place? How did you get my number? What do you even want from me?" I snapped at me, I paused to bite my lower lip to stop myself from breaking down into tears. The last thing I needed was to break down in front of Reginald.

"Slow down Laura, that is too many questions you have for me there." Reginald said with a low chuckle. My goodness, Reginald was one hell of a psychopath. How was he deriving so much joy in this? I hated him! This was the reason why I had broken up with him in the first place, he was just so crazily selfish. He wanted things to go his own way and when they did not, he would throw a tantrum.

"What are you thinking in that little head of yours?" He raised a brow at me. He paused to lean closer to me but I hastily pulled away. Staring at him alone brought memories I thought had already been buried deep inside of me. Now he was trying to get close to me? I shook my head in disagreement and I was sure after my conversation with Reginald, I would be left with sleepless nights and vivid imaginations.

"Fine." I paused to clear my throat. "Just answer this one question. What do you want from me?" I asked even though I knew the answer was pretty obvious, he wanted my money or maybe he just wanted to ruin my life. Either way, all I knew was that Reginald meant no good.

"What do I want from you? Is that not obvious Laura?" Reginald choked out a hysterical laughter. I shook my head in disagreement. "No, you are full of surprises so I want to hear it from you instead. What in the world do you seriously want from me?" I asked.

"Laura, you are married to a fucking wealthy man. Your husband is swimming in sick money and you are asking me what I want? Are you seriously kidding me right now?" Reginald eyed me in disbelief before proceeding to finish his statement with an abusive word. "You have always been really slow anyways. That was why you never knew I was recording us having sex. Who knows if I have done worse?" Reginald laughed out loud.

I slammed the desk in front of us in anger. I did not care about the attention I was getting from other people around us. I was extremely furious right now. "Shut up Reginald!" I said through gritted teeth.

"Relax Laura, getting angry is not going to make any difference. Your anger will not take us back to the past. Plus, should you not be grateful to me? I am doing you a fucking favour by trading our sex video for a small amount of money." Reginald said with a scowl on his face. I scoffed and shook my head in disbelief at him. "A small amount of money? Are you kidding me right now Reginald? How is asking for some million dollars of money a small amount?" I had to whisper-yell so that I would not gain unnecessary attractions and suspicions.

"Cut the crap Laura, it is a little amount of money compared to how much your husband has in his account." Reginald said in a nonchalant tone. I ran a hand through my hair in frustration. "We are not even married for goodness sake Reginald! Do your findings correctly, Kendrick and I are not married and if you must know, our wedding has been called off." I lied. Our wedding was not called off, it was just placed on a slight hold.

"Wait, do not tell me that you actually showed him the video and he decided to call off the wedding because if you did then that is a very stupid move." Reginald said and for the first time since we started talking, he had a serious look on his face.

"No, I do not want that video ever getting to him. Not to anyone, as a matter of fact, I want you to delete that video right now and then never contact me in your life again." I said. I unlocked my phone and hastily made the transfer to him.

"Deal?"

All Reginald did was laugh in response, and it made me feel like I had started something I would not be able to finish.
