Chapter 2 - Coming of Age.

Arriving at school, she made her way through the crowd to meet her best friend Iniabasi, she was the daughter of the richest Farmer in Ibom kingdom. Serwaa was the daughter of the Linguist and Advisor to the Asante ruler, and from her maternal side, the Obuoi Asona royal family of Kwaman in the Eastern part of the Ashanti Kingdom.

These 2 were by no means from poor families but were also not part of the richest in the school.

At some point, Serwaa you need to develop realistic crushes not the fictional characters you hold so dear Ini drawled, oh Ini you need to get some imagination, well I have a date to the coming of age and I'm sorry Serwaa I can't go with you. She made a puppy face knowing Serwaa wouldn't be able to resist forgiving her.

It's fine boo and I'm not coming with you and you date stated Serwaa in her most matter of fact way. Ini in mock hurt said I would never but I would however connect you with, No I'm not pairing up with any egotistical high-school boy. I will be coming by myself besides I will have to represent with my house colours before my mother blows a gasket. And I am happy for you boo but who is the lucky man?

Ini dropped her voice, the Prince of the Ibom kingdom, Serwaa was wide eyed, Errm would you tell me how you met as you have been keeping this piece of juicy info to yourself.

Ini smiled ,I like how you are never surprised when I drop bombshells, I literally just told you i'm being courted by the prince of my land.

Oh i heard you ,said Serwaa and I'm happy, deliriously so but as always I'm going to give you a piece of advice a message if you will, do not show your hand or put on airs when you get back to your kingdom because of the favour that bestowed upon you. Remain humble and all will fall into place as it is supposed to.

Ini knew Serwaa was different and so far hadn't steered her wrong when it came to giving her advice. She hugged her friend tightly. I will follow it as I always do. The moment passed and the two girls got back to the excitement of the coming of age ball, hair , make up as normal girls did.

Unbeknownst to them, they had caught the attention of the crown prince of the Asante kingdom.

It was tradition that his identity be kept secret in order for him enjoy his childhood and also use that opportunity to study the noble houses and put together hus parliament. His ever present aid and best friend quipped you know at some point Kwesi you need to speak to her atleast once before graduation.

I doubt she will accept should I ask to her to be date for the coming of age ball. Serwaa is unlike all the girls in this school or the 20 kingdoms. The way she is unperturbed by status, wealth and nobility astounds me, all the while being the noblest among the ton.

I want to approach her as a friend but sometimes the way she looks at the world feels like she knows more than she does and does that scare you? Asked Uche, not really but I wouldn't want her to know she has been chosen as the crown princess yet, her family is one of the most influential and mothers family is that of kingmakers. I wouldn't mess with Serwaa but also don't want any one to make a move on her either. Kwesi do you hear yourself?

You really like her don't you? Damn you are far too gone. Any way we can ask the professor for General knowledge in Arts to assign her as your partner for the final year project that way you get to know her on a personal level.

There's nothing like a gold old school pairing to get the hormones raging... Kwesi smiled thank you for the advice but no , I will ask her to the ball and she might or might not refuse. But I don't want to start anything based on a ruse.

Uche laughed sometimes dude you are a whole damn forest .....
