Chapter 3 - The Hunt Begins

The night in Velora Heights passed with a strange stillness. Stars hung like silent witnesses in the sky, unaware—or perhaps too aware—of the storm that was brewing on Earth. Nova lay in his bed, staring up at the ceiling, the faint glow of LUMINA's core pulsing from the ring on his finger. The ring was impossibly light, cool to the touch, yet radiated an ancient, alien energy that made his skin tingle. His mind raced with questions, most of which were met with the same response: "Level 6 knowledge—access denied."

LUMINA had become part of him, literally. After integrating with his brain, Nova no longer had to speak aloud. Their communication flowed like thoughts in a dream—fluid, seamless, and frighteningly intimate.

"LUMINA," Nova thought, "are we safe now?"

Safe is a relative term, she replied. We are untraceable for now, but something stirred in the cosmos the moment I activated.

Nova shivered. He turned his head toward the window. The moonlight poured in, illuminating his desk, where his laptop now lay completely inert. No lights, no fan sounds, nothing. It had died the moment Device X fused with it, and now the ring was his only interface with LUMINA.

"You said there was something else?" Nova's curiosity burned hotter than ever.

Yes, LUMINA said. I detected an anomaly just hours ago. A micro-singularity opened and closed near your planet's upper stratosphere.

"A black hole?"

No. Something worse. A gateway.

Nova sat up. "Gateway to what?"

To war.

Somewhere in Deep Space, 3.4 Light-Years from Earth

A massive warship floated in the void like a predator lurking beneath the ocean's surface. Its black alloy skin shimmered with red glyphs, pulsating with malevolent energy. Inside the command chamber, a tall, armored creature with scales like obsidian and eyes like molten gold stood before a holographic map.

"We've traced the signal," barked Commander Xaroth of the Zarnokian Armada. "The Device is on a primitive planet in Milky Way 741."

An advisor, slightly smaller in build, hissed, "How can this be? It should've been destroyed in Galaxy X's collapse."

Xaroth slammed his clawed fist against the console. "It teleported. The Garoba engineered it too well. We underestimated them, but not this time. Prepare the Legion. That planet will fall."

Back on Earth

Nova could feel his heart pounding. His dreams had always been filled with stars and galaxies, questions about existence and creation. He wanted to know: who made the universe? Was time infinite? Was there a purpose to all this? He had asked LUMINA everything. And LUMINA had replied:

Your curiosity is admirable, Nova. But the answers you seek lie beyond Level 5. Cosmic truths require strength—not of body, but of mind. Emotional discipline. Wisdom. Compassion. Only when you're ready will you be granted access.

Frustrated but determined, Nova decided to start understanding the powers he did have access to.

"Can I do anything yet? Anything at all?"

You have access to Level 1: Observation. You may see what others cannot.

Suddenly, his vision shimmered. His eyes flickered gold for a moment as if a veil had lifted. He looked around his room, and everything ordinary now looked... deeper. Like he could perceive electromagnetic fields, hear the buzz of atoms, see the outline of heat around his computer, even the faint traces of static left on his chair where he had last sat.

Nova gasped. "What is this?"

You are seeing the raw layers of reality. Your brain is beginning to interpret universal patterns.

He staggered backward, overwhelmed.

Just then, LUMINA went silent.

"LUMINA?" he called out nervously. "What's wrong?"

...Something is entering the planet's atmosphere.

Nova ran to the window. The night sky was calm—until a flash of crimson light streaked overhead, leaving a trail of crackling energy.

A Zarnokian probe, LUMINA whispered. They've found a trace of my activation. They're scanning for anomalies. We must not be seen.

Nova ducked as the ring pulsed once and projected a translucent field around his house. To outsiders, it would appear dark, empty, and utterly unremarkable.

"They're really here… aren't they?"

Yes. And this is only the beginning.

Elsewhere: Government Research Facility - Site Delta 9

A team of astrophysicists stood frozen, eyes glued to the monitor showing a rippling heat signature over the northern skies.

"That was no meteor," said Dr. Kael. "Rewind the footage. Look at the curvature. It decelerated mid-atmosphere."

Another scientist nodded grimly. "And it released a wave of exotic particles never before seen on this planet."

"We need to notify the Planetary Space Defense. This… this could be contact."

The Next Day - School

Nova walked into his school with the ring hidden beneath a bandage, feigning an injury. LUMINA stayed quiet, unless spoken to, but the awareness of her presence in his thoughts was constant.

In class, his friend Kaerion nudged him. "You okay, man? You look like you've seen a ghost."

Nova wanted to tell him everything. The ring. The device. The alien AI. But he remembered LUMINA's words:

Trust must be earned. Every voice you confide in becomes a potential threat.

So he smiled weakly. "Yeah. Just didn't sleep well."

The day passed in a blur. Nova couldn't focus on anything. Not equations, not history, not even lunch. All he could think about was that probe… and what would come next.

That night, the sky changed again. Another flash. But this time, it wasn't subtle. It was an explosion.

Nova rushed outside to see a cloud of smoke rising beyond the forest hills. Something had crashed.

We have to investigate, LUMINA said. That was not a probe. That was an envoy.

Nova hesitated. "Will I be safe?"

No. But you won't be alone.

As he ran toward the hills on his bike, the ring emitted a soft hum. LUMINA activated his vision again, and suddenly, he could see strange footprints in the dirt—massive, clawed, glowing faintly with an eerie blue.

He arrived at the crash site. A crater. Scorched trees. But no body. Just a strange, metallic cylinder embedded in the ground.

Nova approached it slowly. Then it opened.

A beam of light shot out, scanning him head to toe. The ring glowed violently in response.

Brace yourself, LUMINA warned.

The cylinder hissed. Something stepped out. Humanoid, but clearly not human. A tall, muscular being in a black bio-suit with glowing blue lines and no visible face.

"Subject identified: Device X bearer," the being said in a synthesized voice.

Nova froze. "Who… who are you?"

"I am Rek'tor, Vanguard of Xal'Zur Dominion. Surrender the device, or face annihilation."

Run, LUMINA whispered urgently. NOW.

But Nova didn't move. Not because he wasn't afraid, but because something inside him… snapped. Some primal instinct. Some unknown courage. The ring reacted.

A pulse of energy erupted from it, throwing Rek'tor back into the crater wall.

LUMINA gasped. You unlocked your first defense protocol. Reflex Pulse Shield. This changes everything.

Nova looked down at the ring. Then back at the stunned alien.

"I'm not giving it to you," he said, voice trembling.

Rek'tor stood again. "Then your world… dies."

Suddenly, dozens of red lights appeared in the sky—Zarnokian ships descending like a storm.

Nova's breath caught. The invasion had begun.

LUMINA's voice returned, more serious than ever. You must choose, Nova. Run and hide… or rise and fight. But know this: the fate of your planet… begins with you.

To be continued…
